Apparently the Krait are going to do something... wonderful invisible wall, no clue how it gets constructed without the Lionguard noticing.  Waiting for Scarlet to be behind it all, having learned one of her 13 quadrillion skills from the Krait.

Dev posts are being coy, but here are some context shots

There's a link to some concept art I can't get to about a 'krait obelisk.'

I honestly hope this isn't about revamping every zone to have a dragon-chest worthy event.  The Checklist is long enough.

Invisible wall? -_-

Can't they come up with something more creative/immersive to keep players out of a specific area? The "Turn around or you will be shot" mechanics from various FPS games comes to mind.

Little Mabel won't be able to be here it's our worst fear. She's busy working on her garden that she's growing up in space.

When I got into WoW's closed beta, Vanilla... The starting area for the Forsaken is right next door to an end-game area, the Plaguelands.  Imagine my surprise when I tried to hoof it there and found a pair of massive 'skull' level Infernals.  They were the size of the Doomwalker in BC.  And they came at me, brah.

Devs have already posted on the forums stating the poi is still obtainable and the vista in that area has been moved.

They made it so that you get credit for it if you go as close as you can. They also moved the vista for the time being.

Hmm..revamp of the blood witch for Halloween? Its just cheesy enough to be true. As long as we get something like Ascent to Madness again, I dont care what it is.

I do like the fact that we are getting boss encounter revamps and changes to existing zones. Its a good use of resources, and they are doing something they said they would.

You mean like making it a magical barrier that pushes you back if you try to enter the area?

Oh wait... that is what they did..

No, he meant like a plausible sensible logical way to discourage and ultimately stop players (kill them) from accessing an area.

Rather than Moonwalking in front of.... Nothing.

So.. how does making a magical barrier that pushes you back not fit the "plausible sensible logical way to discourage and ultimately stop players from accessing an area"?

The Krait don't want people into that area at this time, so they have put a magic barrier around it that repels everything trying to enter. There already are player skills working exactly like that, so why wouldn't it fit?

Make it visible then, then we know someone from the world of Tyria is actually responsible for it, with an in game context, rather than an arbitrary mechanic created from beyond the fourth wall.

Invisible walls just screams "i can't be bothered with minor details" to me.

Making them visible wouldn't make sense though. Since they are supposed to protect something hidden.
Making a visible barrier to protect that would be quite silly.

It's hard to bother witch such details when your PR campaign is to surround yourself with people who will call you the Lord God-Kings of MMO development.

Why even have an invisible wall? Why not just keep the area the same until you're done making the changes to the new boss/event chain/whatever, and then when you're done, patch in the new event chain and look of the area. Why waste time cutting players off from the area and moving vistas around?

If they want to protect something hidden, hide it really really well instead of literally telling anyone walking into the nothing there's something there, makes more sense? How about create a natural looking obstacle? Illusion? Irradiated the place with dangerous looking stuff?

Or do it like BF3 - give a warning shout from some nearby npc and nuke the bugger who don't heed the warning with a meteor.

The point is that invisible walls have a huge negative stigma attached to them in MMOs. All magical barriers in Tyria have a visible manifestation. If they want to go with the magical wall, it would have been preferred to keep that visible manifestation that all barriers to this point have had. I am fine with a magical wall. Invisible walls are lazy. Or they are at least perceived as lazy from how they have been used in the past. There are countless ways to do this better, cooler, and in a way that doesn't seem like a half assed stop gap.

Plus, an invisible wall is just as much of a tell of hidden actions as a gigantic sign pointing to the location of the hidden actions saying "LOOK HERE I AM DOING SOMETHING!" You hide things by being subtle, the Krait aren't trying to be subtle. The invisible wall makes no sense.

I don't mind the invisible wall per se but I wonder why they didn't use the same mechanic that they use when you try to swim off the map, a notice that you have encountred a current and will be pushed back.

I think people are actually misunderstanding what the "invisible wall" is in this situation.

There are invisible walls in the game. Those simply stops you from moving to off-limit areas.
THIS barrier on the other hand pushes you back, which suggest that it is game-play rather than just stopping people from accessing out of bound areas.

You forgot to mention there are a nearby camp on the hill where you can find Kashmeer and Marloy(?) chick and some other NPCs. Apparently Kashmeer was sent there from the Mesmer's United Association.

I personally think that they should put legendary kraits guarding the area with super speed buff and if you enter they oneshot you like the Base Defender in Guild Wars. Oh it would be so funny to watch.

This is very interesting thought and can't wait to know what's it about :)

I'm guessing the Krait queen is learning Metamorphosis. You know, so that we can kill her and she can be "DIDN'T ACTUALLY DIE LOL. ALSO BLINDING SURGE".

Well this actually makes more sense if that's the case. Does it make some kind of effect, like a sound or a flash?

This is pretty much how the Living World should be done. Just hoping and praying the name 'Scarlet' doesn't even enter the equation this time.

I think whatever is coming will focus purely on Krait lore. I can't really see the Krait working in tandem with anyone or anything, let alone some pirates.

It would appear you're correct. Lady Kasmeer and Marjory are well aware of the wall. Still a bit of a deus ex machina, but at least its a conscious part of the game world.
