According to Anet John Smith they forgot to put it in the patch notes,

Quote

Hello all, I looked into this because we intended to have a release note for the changes to the champion loot.
We did modify the gold and bloodstone dust coming from champion bags, and a release note will be added shortly.
What I can tell you is that we made a mistake, this one fell through the cracks and I’m truly sorry. I’ve promised before that we won’t make stealthy economic changes without notes and I mean to stick to that promise.
Thank you all for pointing out the error, we will be more vigilant in the future.
Good luck in your adventures.

Another thing not mentioned is you no longer only get Exotic Bags if you are level 80, instead you get varying Rarities of bags as if you weren't level 80. This is a pretty signifcant nerf and I wouldn't be surpised if Champion Trains suddenly became empty.

You never "only" got exotic bags if you were 80. I've consistently gotten a mixed variety of bag types, depending on the level of the enemy/zone.

As far as Dust drop rates going down, that's pretty terrific news. I might not have to delete as much since my storage is overflowing with it already.

I farmed over 500 boxes and bags in Frostgorge Sound on my level 80 Necromancer before the patch and they were all Exotic quality. Now you get varying kinds in Frostgorge as opposed to pure Exotics apparently.

Frostgorge is a special case because all the champions in that train are high enough level to give you exotic bags. In the Queensdale train, for example, you routinely get white/blue/green bags as well as the occasional exotic.

If even high level enemies aren't dropping exotic bags all the time though, yeah, those trains will definitely be derailed.

This happened days ago and the trains are going stronger than ever. I dont really care about the bloodstone dust, but the gold is worth raising an eyebrow.

Are you speaking of level 80 zones like frostgorge? Or lower level areas? Because I've run the champ train in queensdale when it first started on my level 80 and got varying bag rarities, but in frostgorge it's always been exotic level bags.

Way to go Anet keep giving bones to players and then take them away. Do you even realise what this is gonna do to your precious game?
People are gonna get fed up with this kind of modding and will go play other games and rightly so. You behave as though you don't want player to better their characters. We either have to slave for a good look or buy our way into one and that kind of modding stinks.

No surprise there, guess what? They said that too, was done by mistake and they have yet to fix it, promises, promises.

When I solo some champs, I end up with a white champ loot bag. What the hell is that crap??? I solo'd the the tool for crying out loud, I should have gotten an exotic! What kind of lame dmg calculations are going on anyway? I rarely score an exotic when soloing a champ, and this is on both my necro and guardian. I need to find a more balanced game, GW2 is getting on my nerves and the fun is completely gone. Diablo 3 is looking kinda good right now!

And are they ever gonna fix that or? Because it's tedious right now, I have the choice between leveling a character to get karma, doing WvW or Fractals. I don't get anything doing what I like, which is dungeons... Bahhh. Oh well.

Why do they keep nerfing farms/ways of making $$? Is it to subtlely shift people into buying gems to convert into gold?

Champ trains are bad for the game and a sign of poor game design, IMO.

They are boring and require little to no skill, yet offer high reward.

I'm glad you posted this because I was about to destroy many stacks of the dust taking up space in my bank. Now I won't.

Gem conversion is curently arround 40g for 10€/$, you can get more gold by working instead of playing the game, pretty ironic.

Edit: you can get a legendary for the price of a ps4 xD

Apparently the mods removed my trainwreck. Shame. :(

Anyway, I hope this'll kill the champion trains and force people to play the game. Good riddance.

Kinda badly put there. I mean that it'll force people to do something else (dungeons, pvp, wvw etc.) than just champ train. Where's the fun in that?

True, Champ Train is repetitive, just like Dungeon Runs, the same old PvP, WvW matchups, etc. Everyone has their Hamster Wheel they prefer to run on.

That kind of gets to the gist of some of the problems in the game. The promotion of gear treadmills and the gem store promotes farming more than doing things for fun. I'm not saying you can't and that people don't, but it certainly appears to me that more people are interested in phat loot than intrinsically rewarding game play. And, who should blame them? How much work have we seen go into achievements, gem store, gear treadmill, etc compared to work on fun things like dungeons, pvp, wvw, etc.?

Sure, we have had a couple new dungeons, maybe, what, 4 paths or so? Nothing really that new and exciting. Nothing that gets to the heart of why dungeons are boring to begin with. Because, well, they are kind of static, and easy to figure out.

sPvP is a joke. I mean, can't we just kill it now and proclaim it dead? The meta is garbage. Fewer and fewer teams play seriously. There has been next to no development put in to it. It is has been pretty much DOA since release.

WvW could be awesome, but again, it has taken almost a year for the developers to really put even a modicum of time in to it and what do we get? Bloodlust and a new waiting area for queues. The game is still a zerg fest that is primarily dominated by servers with coverage in all time zones. It has seriously amazing potential, but nothing really giving it the love it needs.

So, yes, I think it is a merry and terrific idea to get people from farming to do fun things that I would enjoy doing... sadly, just taking away ways to farm isn't fixing that. And, so far, I don't see any initiative that it will be fixed. That is why the game is disappointing to me. You pretty much nailed it on the head.

Of course, anyone with a couple of brain cells to rub together could see that the nerf to champ boxes was fully intentional. Had no one said anything, it would have gone by unnoticed. They do these stealth nerfs all the time; oftentimes they're masquerading as "bug fixes".

That's how it works for every single game, even on RMT black markets. People in China can make a living from RMT, people in the U.S. or Europe generally can't. Games should generally be more fun than your average job, so the game ends up rewarding less than working would (within the same national economy.)

People are farming rather than playing.  Rather than giving better rewards for playing, they nerf farming.

True of balancing as well.  Rather than making alternate builds more enticing, they make it harder to trait the builds that are working.

I suppose if they aren't going to release an expansion so we can pay them for more content, this is what they have left.  Make it such a pain to get gold in game so we give up and buy it through gems.

I don't know if you're being sarcastic or if you actually have that kind of opinion. I apologize if you do not, and I didn't understand.

If you do, what makes you think your way of playing is the right way? You do realize that not everyone enjoys the game the same way as you, and why shouldn't they be able to enjoy it the way they do?

I just don't understand this kind of attitude, this kind of: My playstyle is the only right playstyle. WvW, PvE, PvP, it is all repetitive, some people enjoy farming.

Excellent, that's just what I look for in games I play. Being "forced" to do things. Whatever happened to ANet saying "Play your way"?

The same place the 'cosmetic endgame' went.

It's now the 'Ascended endgame' and 'farm gold to subsidize your gem purchases endgame.'
It's okay to enjoy crap if you're willing to admit it's crap.
Every patch is like ArenaNet walking out onto the stage of the International Don't Kitten Up Championship, and then proceeding to shiv itself in the stomach 30 times while screaming "IT'S FOR YOUR OWN GOOD! IT'S FOR YOUR OWN GOOD!"

Champion farming train is very boring and easy. Unfortunately, it seems to be very effective way to get gold. You don't have much choice. Either gain gold a lot slower by playing the game or just repeat retarded things for better profit.

In my opinion, dungeon completion should be the most rewarding. It means that kill all bosses and you get bonus chest or something. Maybe kill all trash for another bonus? Also group events need buffing and especially those events which have timers. Farming should have great variety so that if you want to maximize gold gain, you have to travel all over the world map.

They should "apologize" for making champ grinding necessary and then nerfing it, not for failing to announce it in the notes.

We've had multiple stealth loot nerfs in the past but this one was obvious, hence the need to "apologize" for it.

They seem committed to making this game as grindy and monotonous as possible, oblivious to the fact they've already alienated the majority of their playerbase.
