I thought I was my just imagining that I got a Black Lion key drop from a mob since it happened a year ago.  But just the other day I saw another drop off of a common mob.  Then a few days later I saw yet another from a standard open world chest.

How many keys have you seen drop from a mob or chest?

I've had a total of two drop over the year so far, which is less then I've had precursors drop. Althought I've seen a few more people reciving them in the last couple of weeks, so maybe they upped the drop rate a lil ?

I've only seen them in the cash shop and from the personal story. I have about 550 hrs logged.

Only one from a champion whilst doing the run in Frostgorge Sound. They should drop more often considering you get about 3 chests a week.

Way more often than Precursors.

I don't remember the exact number of keys that dropped for me from enemies but I guess it's five or something.

Only 3 a week? I mean, I get at least 3 a week, if I only do _one_ raid, which lasts for about 3 hours. So more like one chest an hour.

Btw. I remember, back before beta, there was discussion about the keys and the chests. Everyone thought at first they would be like chests from gw1 spawning randomly all over the place and everyone hoped we would get enough keys dropped and only need to buy them if you do specific chest runs. Then the beta came and we learned the system that is in place right now. Observations ranged from "I got 10 chests and no key T.T" to "I got one key and two chests, I think the drops are about even". Now that we know how low the drop chances are (about 1:100 or so at minimum) I can't even imagine what Anet had going on in their thoughts. The keys in the store are way too expensive to buy as many as you need to compensate for all the chests that are lacking keys. And even then, the chests have largely bad containments beside a few things with insanely low chance to drop. So the community went from rage (especially when Halloween and the exclusive skins came) to "BLC's? What? Oh, I didn't realise they exist anymore."

Yeah, it's just a push towards the gem store. People have found a free workaround by farming the personal story which takes about 20 minutes per key (15 minutes if in a group and the professions are chosen properly). I've done it a few times myself but it gets boring very quickly - especially when you get 1 black lion ticket scrap after 8 tries and you need 10 to make 1 black lion ticket, which is still not enough to get something of interest.

3 keys dropped. If i remember correctly, from low level mob.

Precursors is a myth in my game.

The chests are random drops, the keys are random super-rare drops, and then to make matters worse, you only have a random chance at acquiring a scrap of a worthwhile reward in the chest. Of all the things in the cash shop, RNG chests are pretty much my pet hate. The festival chests were a close second.

I can't remember ever getting a key drop. I've seen less than a handful come out of map completion rewards, though. They and fine transmutation stones really need a chance boost to be more than cash shop bait.

Across 10 characters and 15 months, I think i've gotten 5 keys from map completion, and 1 as a random drop.  Any others were the usual personal story rewards.

Since the game launched, I've seen about 3 to 4 black lion keys drop from random mobs.

I've never gotten any from world chests or dailies.  I have gotten about 35 from personal story rewards, and from map completions - higher level maps seem to have a better chance of these.

I don't know.  My friend is averaging 1 precursor/year.  The Hunter from the Ancient Karka chest and Zap from the Tri-Color chest just last week.

I'm just hoping for 1 precursor before the recipes come in case I end up going for 2 legendaries, that's less of an arduous chore to go through.

As for keys, they were never intended to drop in enough quantity to open all the chests.  ANet DOES have to keep the gem store in business.  Now whether the keys are priced to high or the chest rewards are too low is a different story altogether.

The lack of keys dropped along with the mostly useless items in the chests is just flat wrong.

I bought a bunch of keys early on and opened a bunch of chests.  I had over 350 'Mystery Tonics" ..Golly, now that's useful :P

In GW1, things like this were tradable and could count towards a title. Items like this or minis are useless now.  I don't see people with their rare mini walking around.

At least minis have a separate storage. Tonics just eat storage space for anyone who saves them ( for what I don't know). Its just trash taking up space. No use, no trade, just a money sink.

I am usually positive or quiet but the chest/key thing is wrong.

Ya I've seen about 45-50 keys from map competion and personal story rewards across 8 characters.  The higher the level of the map, the more likely of key reward upon completion.  Though I'm no where near completing my personal story for all but of my characters. I suspect I would see another 10-20 keys if wrapped those up for all 8.

I've never seen Percursor drop though.

I've had probably 3-4 drop since headstart weekend but got enough to get 11 scraps and 3 tickets from alt's map completion and personal stories. Cash shop be damned :)

For a precursor drop I'd need the planets to align while I'm wearing head to toe rabbit feet on a carpet of four leafed clovers. Then the servers would go down for maintenance and I'd just look like an idiot.

I've had one key drop for me and it was on my Charr Elementalist back when he was like level 6.

I just killed some random Ghost in Plains of Ashford and then got a key as a drop.

I somehow managed to grab like 5 keys during Beta... I am sure drop rates were much greater back then.

Since release, I only bagged myself a single key from a mob drop. This was during the time events were the popular farming method and champions were mostly ignored.

Maybe 2-3 keys from drops, couple thousand hours logged. On the side topic, zero precursors as a drop.

What's that book kind of thing (which he has 5 of)?

I've had about 5 or so drop for me.  I got 2 during the Scarlet Invasion LS...  (in a row, even!  I had no idea what was happening...)

When the guy says it took him 80-90 hours of play to get 250 keys, you need to realize he's either lying or he didn't get them as mob drops/world chest contents.  He likely farmed the personal story up to the level 10 story reward (where you're rewarded with your first key), then put the key in the bank and rerolled a new character, repeat ad nauseam.  If you complete the level 1-10 story enough times, I'm sure you'll get good enough at it to bring in 2 or 3 keys per hour.

They're Tomes of Knowledge.  They're basically a more powerful version of Scroll of Knowledge.  A Scroll gives your character a single skill point when you use it.  A Tome grants your character a single level up.
