There you go: http://dulfy.net/201...-armor-gallery/

In MY opinion it looks terrible. At the first glance I was like "What? There are three heavy armor variants?" Considering how much it most likely costs, it's a waste of time in terms of looks. The flame skins from Gem Store would've made much better Ascended armors IMO.

The backpacks looks epic though. Great for necromancers and guardians.

Gonna agree with you on that one....

You would think that the highest quality tier armor would actually look...well...more epic, or intricate, or something that makes it stand out.  They just all look so damn plain, except the fugly mohawk helmets.  Which are just ugly as sin.

A very good reason to buy skins in the gem store...that was the plan from the beginning

To be fair, those aren't exactly the most glamorous dye combos.

Edit: I kinda like the light armor. Not the biggest fan of the shoulder pads or helm, but they match well with other sets. Though it does seem like the chest piece got shrunk in the wash.

I quite like the armor. Compared to that piece of shit flame-skin the OP mentioned, it looks like it's made out of heaven's clouds.

Just shows that fashion will always be subject of everyone's individual scrutiny.

Regarding the backpacks: I am waiting for Balthazar's Banner, or something. Would be great if they devoted one to each deity over the next couple updates.

Haha, sorry, but that's where all my good dyes are. I don't think I have any other race past level 20 ;)

Anyway, speaking of the new backpieces, has anyone seen the recipe for them yet? I'm thinkin' about crafting the Dwayna one for my guardian.

Yeah it's on Dulfy

EDIT: And it seems as though there are backpieces for all the gods! Yay! [&AgFFwQAA]  supposedly is Balthazar's, haven't seen it yet.

EDIT²: Wow, that Balthazar one looks horrible. A shame.

Remember:  This is the Draconic Armor of the ascended world.  Just do what you did with your crafted exotics: transmute over it.

That's gotta be a bug. There's no way that huge wooden staff is supposed to be sticking out of the back piece. Unless that didn't show up for you and you still aren't a fan of it, then in which case feel free to ignore me ;)

yeah they are pretty terrible looking, but so are all the other armors in GW2 so I wasn't expecting much design wise.

I actually kind of like these sets. They're keeping in theme with the intricate, "classy" look the ascended weapons did (the Krytan weapons also did this, to give a better understanding of what I mean). Although the shoulders on the light set and the helmets for both medium and heavy look pretty terrible.

Overall I wouldn't feel too bad about wearing these sets. They don't look near as prestigious as you might expect, for armor that's undoubtedly expensive, but it still looks good in my opinion.

Can't say I'm a fan...They look really awful on my two favorite characters, a female norn guardian and a female human warrior. Looks decent on Asura though.

Your best option is go at it blind and then put a bag, I mean a skin over it. My curiosity got slapped in the face.
It’s not like they listen to every suggestions we make, the fact of the matter is to this day even if you buy your armor at the store, it’s still the same old butt capes and trench coats. They simply don’t get it or they couldn’t give a rat’s butt about it.

You have to admit Anet is gifted at not listening to our opinions on armors as long as it allows them to sell plenty of transmutation crystals.
I finally understand your message Anet, wisdom is sinking in gems support is going to 0% on the second year and crafting comes to a halt as of today. I will now focus on enjoying the game without the store.

I must admit they finally solved the skimpiness problem by getting characters dressed up even more. They went  from 21st century clothing to 12th century clothing. GW 2 the MMORPG shopping game. Thumb's up Anet.

I think they're overdesigned and overly intricate. What kills it for me, though, is that the armors looks like the armors are made out of plastic and are really flat. They lack the texture and dimension needed for that level of detail. They don't look none too practical either if we're looking at them from that standpoint.

Hello....  i hate , really hate to say this, but please get rid of the artist who designed those armours , you know who wears a checkered pattern puffy pants? A court jester, a clown.

all my Asuras are female , why would you make them wear a male version of the armour WHY!!!!!! and with checkered pants and they are short, what are you !!! trying to make them look like a midget court jester?

Pffff....those armors look really ugly in my personal opinion......but i guess lot of people will think the same.
For something not so easy to craft they made it look extremely poor, i was expecting something rather more flashy and glowing.....but then expectations are one thing reality usually completely different thing !

Of course it's going to look terrible.  Why make competitively good-looking armor for free when you've got stuff in the gem store?

It's the same logic behind Microsoft's support of PC gaming.  Beyond Direct X, which is already slow to develop, it's virtually nil because PC gaming competes with the XBox platform.

Ugly armor but BIS slots == selling armor skins and transmutation stones so you can get good looking BiS armor.

It's okay to enjoy crap if you're willing to admit it's crap.
Every patch is like ArenaNet walking out onto the stage of the International Don't Kitten Up Championship, and then proceeding to shiv itself in the stomach 30 times while screaming "IT'S FOR YOUR OWN GOOD! IT'S FOR YOUR OWN GOOD!"

I don't mind the medium armour apart from the helmet and boots.

For Gods' sake, man! NO MEDIUM CLASS WEARS A METALLIC HELMET!! And if you're going to do that, at least shape it like Hermes' helmet and give us wings.

Boots are just too chunky.

As sets, they are extremely ugly. There is some potential to mix and match some of the pieces though.

But let's face it.. this game isn't just about aesthetics.... It's about "meaningful" progression...

Maybe they're saving this for legendary armors but I'd say they definitely need to make 2-3 variants of each armor category to represent each class. Apart from the helmet, I can perfectly imagine the medium armor on Ranger. Thief and Engineer? Absolutely not.

Also, ANet, PLEASE, take your time and design the Asura and Charr versions from scratch. It's like there's a certain conversation going on at ANet each time they design a new armor:

- Boss, what about the Charr versions?
- Well, we take the humanoid versions and - Pfft, make it bigger.
- Genius! *applause*

Daniel Dociu actually explained already, how Arena Net's philosophy is on playership minority-armors. Which amounted to "We put our focus on what people play most. We can't put as much time into Charr armors i.e. as we put into Human armors while 60% of our players are human."

Snake biting its own tail, I suppose - but if that's how it is, re-rolling human right now, despite costing me 500 g just to get the essentials (makeover kit, bag slots, transmutation splitters for legendaries) and the 3 dyes I already have, but want on my new character as well (charred/pyre/shiver sky).

I guess it keeps people busy to re-roll their characters to Humans, because other races are simply not deigned worthy of custom-fit armor models.

Not great, but alas, it is what it is.

To be fair, it was to be expected. It's not like you couldn't preview all the armor/ weapons in the PvP locker before leveling all the way to 80 and investing in legendaries and whatnot.

Not saying it's right, but it does make sense and it was fairly obvious from the start.

GW2 I'MA LET CHOO FINISH BUT GW1 HAD THE BEST ARMOR OF ALL TIME! OF ALL TIME!!!

Now that that's out of the way. I will say that I don't think ascended armor is as hideous as everyone makes it out to be. Most of the time people use horrible, horrible dye combinations (in culture dominated by men, I'm not surprised) but with good combinations most of the armor doesn't look halfbad--with heavy armor as an exception. I actually really like medium and light armor on female and medium on male (sans-helm). To be honest I think the whole gem store concipracy is just insane. The skins put on the gem store thus far have been just hideous.

Yes, I agree they should have made cooler (and possible class based ) ascended armor. But as we've seen so far, whoever is incharge of armor design really keeps missing the target. Pro-tip, armor designer, try starting with a real set of armor (I mean something that exists in real life) and work from there. GW1 designers didn't have an issue making classy/cool armor.

Yeah, definitely. But it sent a clear message to those people like the user I quoted who pleaded Anet to invest more resources into it - namely: no, we won't.

So, it feels a bit like being stream-lined to a human character, if you are not particularly comfortable with owning 1 pair of aesthetic armor set in your cosmetical progression ™ game ;)
