Just a random little thread I thought I’d make. What potential new features would you like to see implemented to GW2 over the next year. Don’t worry about being unrealistic or any such, this is just an informal little wish-list thread. I’ll start us off by listing my top ten, in order of most likely (1) to least likely (10).

1; new skills for every profession
2; new legendary weapons (bows that don’t look ridiculous would be nice)
3; account wide appearance locker
4; profession themed armor sets (not in the cash shop would be preferred)
5; expanded weapon selection for every profession
6; guild halls
7; player housing
8; mouse driven action combat mode (see Tera)
9; player owned ships and appropriate content (I want to be a pirate)
10; comprehensive bug fixes across all professions and content

11; I want to see the current game updated to include time worthy content in each zone.  Make meta events with unique rewards for every zone, make them start at intervals that allow enough space between them, but also give people a reason to move around and visit zones for rewards.  They don't have to be bosses, but make them big and unique events.

12; Add unique skins for armor and weapons, even if only skins, to those events.  Perhaps even add totally unique weapons that people actually want and desire.

13; Use the yellow announcement text that is used for Scarlet events for ALL major meta events in the game. Tequatl, the new events from point 11, Shatterer, etc.

a level increase and
a new tier of gear - because that way it will be shown what the game is.

So there is no pretending what it isnt. A statement of the direction of the game in game and not some wishy washy non committal drivel that they say in double entendre and info speak that they back track on a few weeks/months later saying you misunderstood what was said.

and yes I would consider going back because the game has a direction and it has a soul. It may be against what it was to be but at least there would be no doubt. It may not be what it stated out as and against everything gw was but it is a way forward.

I think that would only make sense if they'd also give us new permanent areas for these higher levels: add some 10 more maps and raise the level/gear to 100.
Otherwise, there's no point: if all we do is grind Larry, it really doesn't matter if the max lvl is 80 or if it's  higher.

Funny, I could have sworn that's what ANet did recently when they added the Ascended tier. If grind is the answer to keep the player base interested and busy then why are people leaving GW2? I guess it can only be so much before it becomes the last nail in the coffin... that or the lack of alternatives when you actually want a break.

Let me ask you this: What exactly are you really contributing to the game that ins't sticking a carrot in front of your player base? What alternative plans do you have that... I don't know... make the game stand out from your 100's other MMOs out there that offer the same in terms of grind? How do you help new players getting into the game if you keep raising the roof? What concepts do you have that is considered FUN (hint: not grindy) to do?

If you're not playing the game anymore at least try to keep up with its changes before you go making suggestions to what it needs...

-----------------------------||---------------------------------

My suggestions:

16. Capturing skills ala GW1 - that was fun and probably one of its the most interesting concepts. Hunting for the skills that you really wanted, it was something to look forward to, a goal, and it was different.

17. Treasure Hunts - Remember all the obstacles we had to go through to get the Black Mini Moa Chick in GW1? I miss those. Going to different continents, acquiring different objects to obtain something (that was optional / vanity).

18. More emotes - Being able to sit on chairs, eat, drink and overall being more responsive and interactive with the enviroment. Its not something we NEED but it would be a nice add.

The current treadmill that we already have in-game ins't enough for you? You need more?
The last thing we need is Anet taking the cheap and easy route and make this an WoW 2.0, where they keep raising the roof every, hoping to keep their player base busy. Because that's what they just did... and its not really working that well for them - players keep leaving and some that stood for longer, this was actually the last nail in the coffin.

Ok, let's imagine you add a new tier set for people to look forward as goal. What will do you with 1) the player base that just had about enough with horizontal progression / grinding and 2) the rest that just reached their goal and completed all that there is in the game? Are you going to add another tier again sometime in the future to make up for it? Let me ask you this: What exactly are you really contributing to the game but sticking a carrot in front of your player base? Are you making it more fun? What alternative plans do you have that... I don't know... make the game stand out from your 100's other MMOs out there that offer just as much grind?

It seems you're not the playing the game anymore, if so, no offense, but at least try to keep up with the game's current changes before you start making suggestion about what it needs. Your idea is just absurd to anyone who is actually in-game and knows what is going on :/

Mike O'Brien on the design of GW2:
http://www.reddit.co...s_2_ama/c7762pk

Quote

Hi! I'll respond to the top part since it's a quote from me.
Obviously the key phrase I'm going to point you to in that quote is, "if someone wants to play for a thousand hours to get an item that is so rare that other players can't realistically acquire it". That really is the litmus test we've used. That's why, at ship, we gave better stats to exotic gear and didn't give better stats to legendary gear.
More generally, I hope we've been clear that GW2 is not a game with virtually no stat progression in it like GW1 was. That's why GW2 shipped with a higher level cap, and with a hard separation between PvE and PvP. In GW1 we never advanced the level cap through four campaigns/expansions. The game design didn't allow for it. But GW2 was designed without those restrictions, and we've always expected that we will someday raise the level cap in GW2.
That's why we've always said that GW2 rewards players through both progression and collection, whereas GW1 primarily rewarded through collection. Presumably players aren't shocked that GW2 rewards through progression, since it has a level 80 cap.
I wonder if the core sentiment is more this: It's only been two-and-a-half months! We don't even all have exotics yet, and already you're introducing another tier. Is this the start of a power progression curve that I'll never be able to keep up with?
I certainly appreciate that worry. I myself don't want a constant struggle, as exists in some other games, to keep my equipment viable.
Then we're left with a balancing act. Some progression is ok, but pushing players onto gear treadmill isn't ok and isn't what the game is about.
So I would ask you to judge us by details, and not by making slippery-slope arguments. We introduced a ton of new content in November, and the sum total of new progression rewards we added to go with it provided a 5-10% stat increase in 2 of 12 slots. I hope you'll agree that that kind of very shallow and gradual progression does not force people onto a gear treadmill.
I think it's important for GW2 to be able to have this kind of gradual progression. Of course we made some mistakes with the way we introduced ascended gear. (See ChrisW's answers for details.) But those are addressable issues. I don't think they invalidate the fundamental concept that GW2 can have gradual stat progression without being a gear treadmill game.

Don't get me wrong: I like the way you think, but there's is a reason why so many of us are pissed with A.Net and the game.

They can keep raising the roof all they want, it will not matter in the end if the player base keeps leaving like this. Right now we have no alternatives to the grindy end-game and that's one of its main issues.

That's exactly nerf's point: A.Net seems to have made the decision to cater to the vertical progression grinders and, in that case, it makes sense to go balls deep into this grind. That's why additional grind is suggested: because its this grind that will cater to the folks that A.Net wants to keep and has been catering to for the last year.

I think this should be muh higher than number 18. Also having some machinema thing to make videos with ingame engine is what GW2 needs IMO.
Apart from that:
  • Housing
  • GvG
  • New legendaries/precursor crafting
  • New zones, revitalization of the old ones
  • 100% Working ORR (a lot of the events are broken, it's absurd)
  • PVE gear rebalance.
[EDIT] My apologies for going offtopic.

Guys, there's already four threads "discussing" gear teadmills, four others "discussing" Arenanet's direction, three "discussing" vertical progression, and four more simply allowing for the typical stuff that goes on there.  If you want to discuss that, please go to any of those.

21. New crafting UI, with a tree that shows all components and sub-components needed to craft the item, and being able to craft them from that tree interface without having to find the individual recipe in your book.  Crafting Ascended and high level cooking end to end is a pain.

22. New chapter to personal storyline quests to continue personal character progression.

+1 on Treasure hunts.  I loved the Mad King book quest.  And on unique rewards for events in certain areas.

- A rebuilding of Orr, and building up of Southsun.

-Classic GW lore, personal stories, and yes more dragons.

What I want:

A complete revamp of rangers' pet AI. Or just make them there for decorative purposes, because right now they are a pain in the rear end. Actually, scratch that, I want a complete revamp of this class, especially the bow skills and the traits.

I like the concept of Living Story, but the execution is the pits. Scarlet is more annoying than entertaining. Please get some decent story and some mechanics that do not involve endless "Kill X number of enemies", "Run around everywhere to collect Y number of things", and "Play minigame Z for this number of times". More instances, puzzles, or just plain personal-story style stuff would be nice.

Better rewards from world events. Make them account bound if Anet is so worried that the economy gets screwed up, as long as these unique rewards drop more frequently.

I don't mind buying skins from the Gem Shop to make my characters pretty and hot, but make them worth my money. The recent leprosy patch on the face is not worth 200 gems, much less 600.

While I'm on the subject of pretty - FIX CLIPPING and for the love of god, FIX ARMORS ON CHARRS. Charrs are cool. They don't deserve to look like what they look now in current in-game armors.

New places to explore. Living Stories taking place yet again in Kryta - zzzzzzzzz.

New races to explore and play. Tengu, Kodan, I'll take it. But I really want Quaggan and Dredge just because.

New classes to play. A heavy armor purely ranged class would be interesting.

Exploration of pre-existing Tyrian lore instead of the current lore-breaking SCARLET RULEZ ALL DIEDIEDIEDIE GIGGLESNORT nonsense.

A new balance and development team at Anet. The ones they have right now don't seem to know what they are doing.

Honestly? Just a FF / Animation Skip feature.

I want the wood, the stone, and the plants without the animations. There are many other animations that could be just cut as well insofar as I am concerned; it isn't that I am against immersion but it's not "immersion" after the 5,000th tree, it's a waste of 6~8 seconds, and honestly if you were to consider that you need 50 of 3 types of wood for some ascended recipe that is equivalent to 900s or 10 minutes at least. That's 10 mins. you have to spend traveling around to get there in the first place.

I am not and never have been a fan of "time sinks" in games. Either make real forests or an arboretum or something in the game or just allow me to skip certain small and pointless animations. You don't have an animation for collecting loot so it's the same thing before someone throws their anti-2 cents.

Seriously, is it that hard to make a UI with today's screen real-estate (a minimum of 1024 x 768, but most people are getting up to 1366 x 768 as of 2012) that can do a tree-reversal on craft-able components?  Or at least a link back to the proper recipe?

The problem with this is that it can reveal things you wouldn't inherently know. For instance when crafting sigils.

  • More emotes.
  • Loading bar back. Currently using  -maploadinfo, but it looks messy imo.
  • Alt. ways to get wool and stuff. Like sheep. Skin animals, give the critters another use.
  • Fix the game. Since the Karka event giving me my first GW2 bluescreen, it's been a nightmare to even start up the client.
  • Normally sit on chairs. Hell, sometimes my characters go right through them like they were quicksand. And they aren't heavyweights.
  • A reset on the exchange rate is a dream, but it'd be nice.
  • Remove those damned red lines on my Duelist armor that you left there from 3Dsmax or whatever program you skinned them in.
  • While you're at it, remove the skin-color thing Sylvari have with Nightmare armor. It's a cute lore thing, but it's restrictive. Let me be a planty Black Knight without changing my skin color.
  • Skin storage, like the Zenith stuff has.
  • More cool normal-obtained armor/townclothes, instead of throwing gems at skins that get more expensive every update. Back in my day, you could get an entire costume for 500.. Now just some gloves or a mask! Isn't the only town clothes obtainable in pve a single bandana? Which is character-bound even?
  • "You can wear what you see every npc wear" or something was what I read before release. I believe I still can't dress myself as a Black Lion Trader. Well, they threw the manifesto out of the window and everything yet nothing is on the table.
  • Do something about the balding that hats do. So many nice hats and helmets, yet I almost never wear them because they turn me bald or shaves off my Norn's fancy mustache.
Now that I got those out..
  • New maps. I like exploring.

I agree with mounts.  Land mounts that grant ust better than swiftness boost speed.  Never air mounts.  Air mounts would absolutely ruin the game.

I'd also like to see ships and airship travel, like that seen in FFXI, where there could be random events that occurr, like pirate attacks or something.  That was so neat.  I'd hate to see GW2 copy quite a bit off from FFXI, and leave that out.

Also, i've been hearing a rumor of subjobs = yes please!  To add to that, add fetch classes, like Death/Dark/Dragon Knights and etc.  80Bezerker/40Warrior would be so much win.
