No fluff; it's the real deal and it's a whole $40 USD ( or equivalent ). The new story bosses are Jormag and Krato...ria... that one. It also hints at Destroyer's and Primus and has no weak mini-political soap opera in it.

Yay or Nay?

Yes, the thought of future expansions is the only thing keeping me playing.

Assuming it didn't raise the level cap, I would purchase. If it did, I would quit.

More lame dragons with zero personality? Nope no way, but if it were Cantha or Elona, sure I'd give it a chance.

Imagine a Guild Wars related story that isn't pathetic filler tied to a bunch of meta achievements.

Palawa Joko has always been a badass, need him asap.
Glints baby dragon
Evennia, clearly dead now but wtf happened, where did she disappear to? I hate when devs just throw stories to the wind and never finish them.
Where are the Seer's?
How did the great giant's get their asses handed to them by the dragon's? They're like a billion times bigger than us and we destroyed Zhaitan...
Apparently the dwarves are still fighting destroyers underground, cool.. maybe we should idk help them?

I wouldn't mind owning the shit out of Kralkatorrik for killing off one of the greatest lore characters ever but that's just bad writing imo. The Zephyrites are supposedly the new dragon order that were charged with keeping Glint and her kin safe, so .... where is it? Clearly the dragon had to be in their possession since they travel 24/7 unless they don't know the spell that the forgotten used to break Glint free of the elder dragons influence and it's evil atm. He is currently injured (well, 5 years have passed?) since he fought with destiny's edge. Wouldn't we, idk, want to attack him asap?

If Glint knew the spell to hide all the races on Tyria from the elder dragons then maybe her daughter/son does too and we could preemptively strike them.

Oh and by the way, if the elder dragons are not so sentient as much as they are natural disasters then why did Kral kill Glint for betraying him? In any case, Zhaitan seems to be a complete retard compared to some others. He didn't say anything and just stood there while we mashed cannons at him.

So much lore potential and we get..... scarlet...lolwat?

Edit: I forgot to mention Shiro, and all of the gods that seem to have just disappeared.

Would be great to see him return. There are still things we don't know about him like why did he betray his master etc. after his death in the temple os the six gods we still don't know where his soul went, would be awesome for him to get his envoy powers back and wreak havoc again. Lol @ the thought of afflicted AoE death in GW2, imagine the QQ.

Canta - I'd buy the CE.
Anything else - I don't plan on buying it. Although if you can buy it with gems, then I'll get it.

"Whoa" would probably be the first thing I'd say. Their current direction has made me very wary of purchasing anything else from them. I'd much rather look into it and wait to see what the reception is like.

If you could buy an expansion with gems it would inflate so hard your head would spin. I don't think you want to spend 1000g for a most likely $40 dollar expansion.

That's true, well whatever the case do what I do. Buy 500-800 gems with gold every time the ratio is 1:14 (decent) or better and stock up. I have 16k from doing this, since nothing else to spend gold on. Legendary seems like too much of a grind.. but I probably could have had 10 of them by now.

It usually takes about 50g to do this, better to be prepared aye? lol

THIS. I think you just wrote down the most perfect and accurate point of view of all time. Let me fall to my knees and begin worshipping you. \o/ _o_ \o/
Although I have to admit dragons would lure me to buying it. But the current direction... words aren't enough to describe the total madness and boredom of it. And though the dragons themselves are interesting, the Zhaitan story plain sucked. They could have written it so much better.

I actually rather enjoyed GW1 story more because there weren't any stereotypical pwning dragons around, Glint and Kuunavang were great since they were unique enough and didn't fit that mold.  That's such an overused trope.  When I heard GW2 was going to have huge dragons I sighed, but was willing to give ANet the benefit of the doubt.  Boy was I wrong.

Rukia is right though, they've neglected almost all the good stuff in favor of shallow shinies.

OT:  I'd buy any expansions they come out with.  If I feel that I can receive the value the expansion has in terms of time, then it's a buy.  Guild Wars 2 has given me FAR more than my 50 Euros gets me with other games.

WoW did just fine in the 'unknowable, elder god horror' department.  You just have to have decent front-men for them.  While the Old Gods in WoW are a little... um... formulaic in their use, they still had a diverse number of characters acting as their agents and making them seem insidious.  The Twilight Cult, Loken, Ahn'Qiraj.

A lot of game writers keep trying to leverage the Cthulu mythos or a derivative of it and have no idea what actually made the Elder Gods popular.  Isn't wasn't what they were.  It's how what they were was protrayed.  You can't just say 'beyond comprehension and evil incarnate' without actually showing it.

The problem is a lack of decent villians, and Scarlet's kind of proof that character-writing at ArenaNet is in the tank.  Even if they had thought to come up with a medium for displaying the devious and corrupting nature of the dragons (the one guy who actually has speaking lines is in the Sylvari Choose Your Order story to show how Zhaitan corrupts, and he isn't even someone you care about, he died hundreds of years ago), they'd probably botch the characterization.
It's okay to enjoy crap if you're willing to admit it's crap.
Every patch is like ArenaNet walking out onto the stage of the International Don't Kitten Up Championship, and then proceeding to shiv itself in the stomach 30 times while screaming "IT'S FOR YOUR OWN GOOD! IT'S FOR YOUR OWN GOOD!"

For new story, playable races, maybe even a new profession I would buy an expansion.

Bonus if it included Cantha or Elona.

Even if it raised the level cap and introduced a new equipment tier, I would still buy it, IF the story and content was good enough.

If it's the size of release and adds as much exploration I'd buy it. They'd probably increase the level cap and introduce new gear, but that's fine, it doesn't  necessarily mean grind. I'd like to go to the desert which is Ebonhawke's backyard currently.

Something to explore on my own time would certainly beat the living story. New races, classes, weapons, skills, and traits would be nice too.  GW2 needs something new to explore, something that can't be summed up on one wiki page or done in a few days.

It needs new areas, new dungeons, harder PvE content, more PvP content, some WvW things and possibly even a new race with a new personal storyline.

I could live without the PvP stuff to be honest, but if you miss any one of those PvE things... no. It's been a year and a half now. It's time to give us something decent.

I might, it would depend on what the gem content is. If the expansion has anything to do with Scarlett Von Gem, then I would uninstall game and give my cash to Eldar Scrolls online. Please Anet, enough with Scarlett Von Gem already.

I was enjoying the EOTM preview right up to the point when scarlet and her cohort bitched slapped me.

Scarlett Von Gem was made to support gem sales. She is a mastermind and manipulates a bunch of different enemies and races. This is ideal for Anet because when we have different baddies to fight we have new junk to buy from the gem shop.

As previously stated in above posts, Anet have made epic enemies and most of us would enjoy them being brought back into the game. Not to mention the new player base who would like to know more about Guild Wars but don’t want to play the original.

We have gone from epic bosses to Scarlett Von Gem and in my opinion Scarlett Von Gem, dose not equal the Mursaat, Shiro, Abandon or destroyers. Ok, Scarlett Von Gem, is a bit of a mastermind and she a support the gems, but can we move on now.

It depends what they add and change. At this point though, I feel an expansion might be the only thing to make me play for a while longer, because this "extra expansion worth of content" through updates isn't working for me. I despise the living story and how it forces you to play the content for only the time frame it's available.

I get the feeling that ANet may have some decent plots waiting to happen, the issue is, while we wait, they are just going to keep throwing bones at us until they feel comfortable enough with what they worked under-wraps.

The thing that annoys me about ANet is their management. True that they have a ton of people, but is it really necessary to have that many and sacrifice quality in the process? GW1 made it just fine with less staff and players loved the game for many years... but I guess the problem is also in the design of the game itself.

Overall, there's a possibility I would probably buy it but if its just going to be another mash up of Living World content, all rushed-up, with menial bosses that don't seem to affect the game in the larger picture, then no thanks. I would love to see more mini-games, more regions, another playable race, more skills and trait lines, new armor and weapons (not re-skins) a serious advancement of the story with SERIOUS characters and freaking Guild Halls.

If the LS is anything to go by, then no. The current ANet won't suddenly create better content because of a different format. The horribleness of the LS - its writing, structure of the "achievements" and their grind - will likely carry through to the expansions. The differences is that it'll be in bulk with probably fewer gamebreaking glitches.
