Looks like they won the coin-toss there.
It's okay to enjoy crap if you're willing to admit it's crap.
Every patch is like ArenaNet walking out onto the stage of the International Don't Kitten Up Championship, and then proceeding to shiv itself in the stomach 30 times while screaming "IT'S FOR YOUR OWN GOOD! IT'S FOR YOUR OWN GOOD!"

8+ pages of responses(a lot of them well thought-out) in less than 24 hours.  Yeah...rangers are fine. <_<

At this point, I feel they have no idea how to fix them and are fishing the player-base for ideas.  GG ANet.

No, played Ranger all of once.  Could never enjoy it.  Hunter pets are the epitome of decent companion AI in WoW, I'm surprised ArenaNet couldn't even be bothered to try and reverse-engineer it.  I think even private servers manage to do it competently.

Letting your customers do half the work is a great idea though.

If not terribly unethical. >_>

And here I am banned from the official forums…damn it. I would have suggested my collar idea. In a nut shell pets don’t have stats; they are just skins and skill sets. Instead players define their stats for them via equipped accessories called collars (crafted with huntsmen, dropped, or bought from the trading post) that have the stats. So if you want your pet to tank for you give it a Knight’s or Settler’s collar, or if you want it to just do burst damage give it a Zerker’s collar. Mostly just a way to make pets feel a bit more personalized to each player. They could also add skin sets to the gem store (I’d love to get my hands on some steam-punk automaton pets. Mechanical spiders, steam powered drakes….just imaging what could be done).

All that is just personalization though, what the ranger actually needs right now is three things.

1; a way to dodge when using main-hand sword.
2; more ways to setup and trigger combo fields.
3; improved pet IA. Giving pets the ability to block and dodge would be useful as well.

I can't imagine them banning you!

By the way I actually do think that pet equipment is a good idea but you'd have to specifically either alter the loot lists to the Rangers ( which will breed "but how come he gets that and I don't?" from at least the Necro ) or make it exclusive to crafting.

Ranger's will never ever be on par with the other classes until they create an optional replacement for the pet...and rework a lot of the traits/utils to not require a pet to function.  The pet is an extreme liability in certain game environments and there's no amount of AI tweaking that can fix that.  This is merely another example of ANet refusing to see things how they are, but rather how they want to see them.

As someone in that link posted, Beastmastery is a traitline, not a profession.  If they refuse to do either of the above, they need to change the name of the Ranger to Beastmaster and be done with it.  At least that way there won't be any confusion as to what the class is and what it's supposed to do.

It's hard to not see it like that when there doesn't appear to be any particular 'vision' for how each profession is supposed to function.  What exactly is the purpose of the pet?  It seems like a stiff, dumber, more fragile version of the WoW pet.

And the simple fact of the matter is that each class is apparently supposed to be able to do 'it all' and that aside, how do you generate mechanics that speak to every potential role in the game?

Are all professions supposed to be the same thing wrapped in its own flavor and mechanics for executing every aspect of character functionality (thereby creating competition in who has the best X mechanics to perform Y function) or is it suppose to have obvious strengths and weaknesses within game play?

They appear to be soliciting for direction without any stated vision for the class.

You mean the same feedback that Ranger's have been giving them since day 1?  They make the DMV look like a model of efficiency.

Perhaps if they didn't waste so many resources on atrocious content like LS episodes, they'd realize Ranger's have been broken since their inception.

I think the problem here is that the serf knows more about how to run the country than the king.

After all their attempts, I'm glad they finally took the first step into "indirectly" admitting that they can't solve the problem on their own and need help from outside sources, I.E the people that play their game and have their heads outside of the box. Now if only they could separate WvW from PvE, permanently, they would never again have to worry about X class being too OP in WvW and becoming a nerfed joke in PvE...
