They said the 15th.  Its now (and has been all day) the 15th.  And typically they drop the patch at around noon, eastern standard time.  Its now 330PM EST and no patch notes, but i did notice that the official forums are offline.

Ideas?  Speculations?

When you get to live a few hours ahead, by the time they release a patch and then attempt to fix whatever it broke that was serious enough, its going to be late for me. I'd rather just wait for tomorrow. Or maybe they finally decided it was for the best to keep it a little longer under wraps, just to make sure it doesn't horribly breaks the game and its servers.

Just like in some of their previous patches that gone wrong, both servers AND the forums were inaccessible for a while shortly before or after the update... could be a problem or it could be that its their way of updating the system? And the reason why both go down at the same time could be because the websites are being held by the same server that handles the game? I dunno.

Only speculations here:
The forums are down because of 4252532 people complaining about patch not yet out.
Reason - probably not the game build, but megaserver issues. I imagine that this is serious hardware change

If it's not up in 8 minutes from this post, it'll probably be at the end of their working day.

It could just be that they have to check that all trait and armor reset NPCs have been altered, that all professions load correctly, and especially that the megaserver change won't screw over people still temp. running the previous build... I can imagine the last one being a total headache.

Nope.  When you say a patch will be out at a certain time, you should plan ahead to give yourself time to make sure all the megaserver issues are ready to go, as well as everything else.  Otherwise, don't say it will be up on that date.  Set it for later.  Then you won't get the millions raging about your lack of timeliness.  They will just rage about everything else they normally rage at.  Work smarter, not harder.

Bored out of my mind waiting. I'm going to bed. In the end it'll be fun for 10 minutes then it's over. You should go do something else and look at it tomorrow instead :)

There was a bug with the starter zones and the mega server that would transport players in those zones directly to a build of Zhaitan designed for hardcore players. Or not.

I would quite enjoy having Zhaitan show up in Metrica Province, if only for the map chat reaction.

Lately, I think ANET makes TOOOOOOOO MUCH hype around everything they tend to do. This leads to player frustration.

Impact of this GW2 update can be equated to the update when ANET introduced Skill and equipment templates, dye preview and UI changes in GW1. They did not hype it up then and players enjoyed the benefits of the update for years to come. Moreover, in GW1, the updates did not accompany bazillion bugs as they do now.

But, regardless, we all need to get out of "Are you there yet?" mode and enjoy the other goodies this world has to offer while Tyria is inaccessible.

Not to mention they've been promoting this for 3 weeks, even telling people yesterday to be sure to log in today!

You can't promote something that much and not expect backlash if it's not ready.

I would love for you to link us the official comment in which they stated a certain time? Because that coment alone is unintelligently mis informed.

Because you are certainly implying they stated a time, when they did not do so. So far it is still that date, so I do not see what the problem is.

Yeah, but thats the standard Blizzard has set, so the industry follows.  You know how slammed my FB page is with Reaper of Souls ads?  Its nuts!!  They've been talking about Warlords since November and the thing just went into alpha a little while ago.

True, it is only 2:00 pm Seattle time.   I'm just concerned there is "last minute" polish.

Maybe this should have been rolled out over the 3 week period, rather than all at once.

I love how people lie to themselves, such as claiming GW1 updates didn't have bugs, or that WoW set standards.

Don't even go there.  GW1 was more stable and had less bugs than GW2.  That is a fact.

And, yes, Blizzard and WoW set the standard for MMOs (not that I like it, but it's what you either deliberately copy or move away from in modern MMOs.   Hell, ArenaNet was founded by ex-Blizzard people, so it certainly influenced them!)

Indeed. Ever see the pre-alpha built of the original Guild Wars? Graphically speaking the term "WoW clone" doesn't even begin to cover it. More like "unofficial expansion pack." Glad the finished product ended up so different though; WoW just never really clicked with me.

On topic, I too an getting a bit annoyed by the lack of update. I've been having internet issues for weeks now, and the establishment I'm sitting in right now closes in fifty minutes, so if they don't get that update out soon I won't be able to see it until Friday. A minor "first world problem" to be sure, but still irritating.

Blizzard used to shut down WoW for entire afternoons to handle patches of this magnitude.

ArenaNet lets players stay logged in and play without incident up until when the patch hits and they're in your mind deservedly chewed out for taking a couple extra hours.

Unreal.

Ummm....  two different points.

One was that WoW did not set the standard for Hype.  It certainly did.

The second point was that GW1 did not succumb to that, and would do cool updates in GW1 with little or no warning, ironically giving more of a living world feel then GW2.  Remember when icy fire swords first dropped?

GW2 historically has overhyped and underperformed.  While I agree it's too early to say this patch will be delayed, I'm not exactly optimistic.

I laughed at the guy on the GW2 Facebook page that said he took the day off work for patch day.

This is the the first patch in a long time that has made me want to log back into GW2, but I have no idea why people would go to missing-work-lengths for a patch that doesn't promise any new content.

^ Yea, this is huge.  The game is almost never shut down for maintenance and the patches, as a whole, are less buggy than WoW patches were (unless they've just gotten a lot better in the recent years since I quit).  I remember cancelling any raids on patch nights since it almost always meant that the game would be in a near unplayable state due to lag, bugs, etc.  GW2 has it's share of bugs, but at least it's not as gamebreaking and doesn't come with 'maintenance' downtime.
