Hi, as you can probably see by the title of the this topic, i like to role play. However, I have a problem. I have a female human thief, on role she is part of the Order of Whispers. I want to change how she looks off role but want it to make sense on role. Any ideas?

Do you mean with the Makeover Kit?
The Black Lion Company exists in lore, so the kit is probably some magical device that exists in lore too, if you were worried about that.
For character reasons, that's hard to say without actually knowing the character. If she's Order of Whispers, maybe she needed to change her appearance for a mission and then just kept it because she likes it?

I was expecting a Zerker meta whine thread with this title...

  • Cover was blown, had to change appearance
  • Had to change appearance for a mission
  • Applied to test the Mk II Total makeover kit
That sylvari partner of Evon used to be of a different gender, no doubt s/he was the guinea pig for that.

I like that idea, however if I am part of the Order of Whispers what would be the explanation to other players who are not part of the order?

Got into a terrible accident and needed plastic surgery
I remember a story about such a thing and the surgeon used a picture that was in the guy's wallet.
Of course, said picture was not of himself... (He ended up with the face of his crush/girlfriend)

Gets tricky once you have to explain to outsiders why your appearance changed.
Realistically, an Orders Agent would've probably taken an entire new identity, so she'd had to live a new life if she'd never revert to her old self.
Telling old contacts that she was that other woman would be too big of a security risk.

I forgot if Canach used a makeover kit or grew himself wilder (plant power).

It's an excellent time to RP today go to the Dry Top region with the rest of the server and play the time distortion game A.K.A lag storms.
Now the sand storm can seem to last for days.

The real question here is: Role-play wise, why you would you have to explain your appearance change, as a secret agent, to anyone? Ins't that a bit "counter-productive" to what you're supposed to represent?

You have to take into consideration that altering your appearance for RP purposes doesn't come free of consequences. If you want to stay true to your role as a member of the Order of Whispers (and keep your integrity as an RPer), certain sacrifices have to be made. Familiar and friendly faces won't be able to tell that you're you unless you tell them, however, where's the logic in that?

Being a secret agent often means playing the "stranger" even among the people you know.
But if that's too much work for you and you know these people well, or they're easy-going, just tell them your reasons OCly and make something up... or use this as an excuse to take your RP into a different path? It could be interesting.

The Master of Whispers (main leader) herself wore Fancy town clothes all day and didn't do any fighting at all.  Living "Dual Lives" is all they do all day.... Since GW1 even.  Most of their work was always infiltrating any kind of rival power structure at every level be it in a combat role, Mercantile, or purely political.  As a Gemini, it was the first Order I went with and not because it seemed like the "Cool" one to go with or admittedly also had the most dynamic looking Gear.

They're literally a play on the illuminati or Stone Masons.  If something exists and it's Secular, they have a hand in it.
