....for "botting, extended unattended play, using macros, or similar behavior."

.................

....whaaaaat? I literally just came back and I've never done those things, and I've played since the early release, never got in trouble to my recollection (if I did it was for swearing). So......what? Has anyone else who recently come back found they were banned for something they never did? Seriously.....

I imagine you were hacked while you were away and they banned the botters using your account?

Contact Arenanet support with your purchase code, e-mail, and other information they request.  They will commonly ban accounts until the original owned contacts them.  Your account will then be reverted to when you last played, and you can access it again.

In short, Arenanet support, off you go!  ;)

Probably, just find it odd since I have virus protection. Tho, I've still gotten viruses, but they've never been on my computer for more than a day. A hacker must've slipped in one of those times. Slippery little bastards :(

Contacted them this morning and they quickly responded telling me to change my password, which I had done right before I logged in and found I was banned because I couldn't remember it (tho, considering I used all possible passwords I would've had, it was likely changed by a hacker). Still waiting to hear back.

Actually, antivirus won't do a whole lot to protect your account. You'll be much better served by setting up e-mail authentication for your account, along with using an authenticator app if you have a smartphone. Arena Net recently released a means of using an authenticator app that generates a new password every minute, and the password can only be seen via the authenticator app on your phone. You can set your account to require that password in order to log in to a new computer (or even your own, if you don't want it to save your computer, on the chance that your computer may be stolen). Since the password in the app changes every minute, it's almost entirely impossible for a would-be hacker to brute force guess the password.

I highly, highly recommend you set that up if you can.

I suppose I'll do that, thanks. Also, how long does it take usually for them to respond about this type of issue? As I said they already responded pretty fast telling me to change my password on my email and account, but said they'd respond again "as soon as possible". I just don't want to be waiting several days, especially if I'm just gonna be told "uh yeah we couldn't do anything for ya, sorry".

When I had this issue with GW1 they got me up and ready in about a week. But that was a long time ago, and apparently a different group of staffies. I would estimate anywhere between a couple days to a couple weeks. But I can assure you, they do their best to help recover an account. They got mine back and apparently it had been under lock and key for a good year before I came back to it. So keep your chin up, I'm sure there is something that can be done to get you back online and running again.

Alright, I'll just keep waiting. Thanks for the info, tho.

I thought e-mail authentication was turned ON by default.

Meaning said hacker has likely been into OP's email via the standard password.

Actually, the most likely source was some other games/website's Pword database was hacked and they found a name/Pword similar to yours or one you'd made yourself. This happened to a friend of mine 1 week after GW2 launched.  They guessed he was a WoW player who'd use the same Creds again here, and got his pass from some easily hacked wow place. The real kicker was he was a Website Administrator himself who shoulda known better.  It's less likely there was a key-logger ON your own computer if it got hacked into while you weren't even logging in. Maybe instead you had been doing something more dangerous like DL'ing lots of PirateBay warez or free porn somewhere that's always guaranteed to be loaded with trojans.  ....or just surfing sites that have too many 3rd parties without a Script Blocker because that's all it takes sometimes.   ....And if there WAS a trojan installing a logger, then it's probably still there RootKitted deep down where crappy commercial Anti-Virus won't pull it out.

It's mostly circumstantial evidence to go off of, I admit -- but I've never had any account stolen of any MMO I play b/c I've always had Java disabled/blocked and I follow the "Long Passes are better than short Numbery ones" and don't use the same passes for social media I use for game account.  How confident AM I that this is all it takes?  .... y'know that annoying Firewall thing everyone's supposed to have?  I don't.  I just blocked certain ports/UDPs and wireshark when I suspect a listener. Either luck has been on my side for 15 years, or it's actually all you need for "security".  It's like getting the flu, the easiest way to deal with it is not to be exposed to it in the first place. (which I haven't gotten in over 20 years)

If it's any consolation;  you're not actually missing anything right now

All you can do is contact arena net. We can't know whether or not you botted nor really help you.

So now they've unbanned me, and got me to change my password. So I did, then tried logging in, and it says my account has an mobile authenticator attached to it, which is something I never did, so obviously I was hacked at some point. Awesome, ♥♥♥♥ing awesome. Of course I emailed ANet back about this, hoping to get a response very soon.

I presume they'll just remove it.

edit: Welp, got it removed and I'm back in the game. Looking at my character list, tho........

Well, let's just say, it could've been better......

Edit: I was gonna reroll anyway so whatevs, and apparently the getting your account back gives you the heroic chest, so I can't complain about that :)

Well gratz ... I don't know if there's any way to start a "donation pool" to help get ya back up to speed.  ...Or if you'd even want that.  But if there is, I'd chip in a couple Deld-Ingots since I don't know what else to do with them currently....

Congratulations on getting your account back. It's unfortunate that the damage has been done, but looking on the bright side, it could have been far worse as well. Keep your chin up and push forward, perhaps rerolling is just the thing you need :D

If there's any way I can help, or anything you might ask of me, I'm open to the PMs. I can't promise anything but if it's within my power to provide, I'd be happy to do my best :D I know what it's like to go through this sort of ordeal, and it can definitely suck.

Good luck in your future endeavors MJ25, and may 'The Six' shine their blessings upon you :D
