Hi all,

What would be your top 2-3 classes for soloing? Only PvE

I got the game on launch but stopped playing soon, and I'm just coming back. Due to limitations 95% of my playtime will be solo pve: levelling (my highest char is 15) and events/champ trains

I dont want a warrior nor elementalist :P I'm looking for a class good for solo map completion and tagging mobs in DE. What would be your choices for this?

I know there are a lot of threads regarding this, but I want the answer to be focused on the above: levelling+DE

Thanks!

EDIT: I'm mostly deciding between Ranger/Guardian/Necro/Mesmer

Out of those choices the only one good for tagging is Guardian.

Necro with wells + warhorn is ridiculous at tagging.

I second necro if you want a caster class. In addition to the AoE from wells and warhorn, you can have piercing Life Blasts while in Death Shroud, which is also another bar on top of your top tier caster lifepool as well as strong single target damage in your Lich Form elite.

Thanks guys! I'm really enjoying necro (staff and wells, tried minions but they are a bit stupid, the ranger pet is much better) so I will probably give it a good try.

What would be the best MH to go with that warhorn? I dont get axe, seems like is not worth. Dagger is nice damage but having to melee seems a bit dangerous as a clothie

Having the biggest HP pool of any caster, you have a comfortable margin of error as you have both your naturally large HP pool and the extra lifepool from death shroud. Given that wells are point blank AoE unless you trait Focused Rituals in the Curses line, you might as well stay in melee as dagger provides the most consistent DPS out of death shroud. When the feature update comes out in the near future, dagger will also be able to cleave 2 targets at a time as opposed to its single target only status right now.

I wouldn't discount axe entirely though. With Axe Training in the Power line, your Life Blasts will deal more damage when you're switched to axe than any other weapon. Also, Axe 2 is useful for burst life force generation. I actually prefer having an axe mainhand/focus offhand swap for burst LF gain and extra damage in Death Shroud with Dagger/Warhorn for out of DS autoattacking.

This build right here is the Necro's best solo + tagging build. Also tanky as all get out even in full GC gear.

Objectively speaking engineer is the best for PvE at this time thanks to Flamethrower being really good (and also good for tagging). A 2/6/0/4/2 Flamethrower build is:

1) The best DPS you will get solo without relying on extended condition damage build-up. This is factoring in how much might/vuln/fury you can realistically apply to yourself in a short period of time of course.

2) Has a strong, short cooldown burst. If you're farming trash mobs one by one while running around, your burst cooldown should be between 5-10 seconds if you want it to be up consistently for each mob, and Flame Blast/Surprise Shot/Blunderbuss fits that perfectly.

3) Easy to maintain buffs. Juggernaut + Flame Blast being a built-in blast finisher (do Fire Bomb > Flame Blast) + Strength/Battle sigils means it's really easy to get 15+ stacks of might just running around killing trash without having to waste time doing drawn-out blast finisher rotations on mobs that will be dead in 2 seconds anyway.

4) Perma-swiftness. Jump Shot and Rocket Boots are funny too.

Funny you mention it, after levelling my necro and doing some open world pve, I started dabling with several low lvel alts, and I'm really enjoying the engineer. Currently using bombkit (gets replaced by flamethrower for events) and turrets, level 40, and having a blast :)

Explosives: Forceful Explosives
Firearms: Fireforged Trigger, Juggernaut, Modified Ammunition
Alchemy: Fast-Acting Elixirs or Blood Injection, Deadly Mixture
Tools: Speedy Kits

Gear: Full zerk, rifle
Sigils: Strength/Battle
Runes: Strength

Utils: Med Kit, Flamethrower, Bomb Kit, Elixir B or Rifle Turret or Rocket Boots (or whatever else you want)

For each mob, just drop Fire Bomb, Blunderbuss, Jump Shot (if off CD), Flame Blast, auto-attack with Flame Jet till dead, Swiftness and fury are easy to maintain because you're getting 12s from Speedy Kits proc, 12s from Drop Stimulant, and 12s from Elixir B so you basically only need to do the swiftness stack every 30 seconds or so and you can do it while moving.
