I think it's some kind of background virus scan slowing my system. Most likely be over in a few days but I can't play the game until it gets done so I'm bored.

Anyone else besides me get terrible lag after Windows updates?

I'm doing fine, check your active processes when playing GW2. Consider posting on the GW2 forums if it continues.

What AV do you use?

You are fooling yourself, user. Nothing here is what it seems. ANet is not the plucky hero, Guru is not an evil empire, and this is not the grand arena.

I don't know what you mean by AV.

I'm on a Windows Vista using Microsoft Security Protections. I don't have a virus. Antimalware Service Executable gives some crazy spikes. It calmed down but I can't play GW2 for more than 8 hrs without the game crashing and MsMpEng (another name for it) doing it's crazy spiky thing again. My PC sounds like it's sorting cache files but I have shut that off as much as I can to make games run faster.

Fixed my problem pretty easy. I just shut off all firewalls while playing GW2 and turn them back on if I'm going to research. I lag to much to access the internet while the client is open anyway.

I've got the game in Windowed mode. Usually prefer the look and I can see calls I get on my PC. Wonder if I'd get better fps if I switched back to full.

There has been a severe problem with lag in WvW lately and a lot of people have been experiencing it. I don't know the cause or whether it effects PVE, but it might not be your system acting up.
