Excuse me? Can I have some advice/help please?

I'm rather confused by a particular chapter of the "Heart Of Thorns" story, and I would like some help/advice please/

Okay, so my main toon has reached a chapter in the HoT story called : "Establishing A Foothold"

http://wiki.guildwar...hing_a_Foothold

It's the objective here which tells me to - Earn your Basic Glider Mastery to continue your story

I don't fully understand what I have to do to complete this objective.
It has me really confused.

The thing is, as with all story arcs in the game like this, I see that (as usual) it is linked to a green star thing which I'm not 100% sure of, but I think I have to go find that star to be able to continue the next part of the story.

BUT..... one big problem occurs here.
That green star looks to me like it is hidden on the far side of the inner area of the Tangled Labyrinth.
(I decided to show a screenshot for easy reference)
http://oi67.tinypic.com/2ij2615.jpg (indicated by my red arrow)

Having noticed at the enterance to the place that's it's always blocked by a big magical vine type door, (of magical sorts) I'm really confused as to how I'm supposed to get in there. :-/
I mean, it seems that there is some type of event that happens inside there occasionally, but how on earth do I get in and when...... so that I can reach that green star on the other side?

By telling me : "Earn your Basic Glider Mastery to continue your story" That is what I assume I must do, right?
Do I have to go find that green star thing inside the Tangled Labyrinth?
If so, then how, and when I do I get in there so that I can go find it?

Otherwise, if I'm so confused here and that maybe I have the wrong end of the stick somewhere, (which I probably do)
then what exactly do I need to do to complete this particular objective please?

Much of the HoT story is gated behind masteries. So yes, in order to progress, you'll have to unlock basic gliding.

I'm not sure about the story destination (can't get your pics to work), but I'm fairly certain that the third step of the story is still in Verdant Brink.

Hope this helps some!

It doesn't want you to go to a specific location, it wants you to learn how to glide.

What you'll need to do is go to your Hero panel, look for the icon on the bottom of the left edge for Masteries, and activate the Gliding Basics mastery. Then you'll need to earn experience in Heart of Thorns areas to fill the bar, and when done, go back to the Masteries panel and learn it.

https://wiki.guildwa...om/wiki/Mastery
https://wiki.guildwa..._tracks#Gliding

Once you're level 80, the XP bar on the bottom edge of the screen now displays Mastery progress, so you can track it that way.

It can all be done by completing the event chains in Verdant Brink. I'd recommend maintaining food and utility buffs (+15% XP each from the Halloween ones, +10% from the rest) as well as an XP booster if you have one around.

Also, going by your screen shot, the swirly star (totally not a technical term) is indicating a portal or door you need to go through to get to where the story will continue. In this case, it's the portal to Verdant Brink that you get to by going through the doorway in the wall that is on the west side of the Amber Sandfall fort. If you don't mind spending a couple of silver, you also can just use the Shipwreck Peak waypoint.

Thank you for the very helpful replies guys.

I think you have given me enough info to understand it more better now.
Those GW 2 wiki links are of much extra help too. I understand more from those.
Thanks a lot. :)

Btw, -typographie- My main toon is already lvl 80, (has been for a while now) but the yellow xp bar you referred to at the bottom of the screen - for a while I had thought Arena Net had decided to raise the level cap at level 80, and have players continue to level their experience to...... I don't know..... somewhere over 100 perhaps?
It's what I thought for a while before I purchased the new HoT expansion, since I saw a number of people, mostly around the trading post areas in Lions Arch with this new (what looked to me at the time) experience bar over their toon's heads, (some were more than 100) leading me to assume there was a new level cap.

Eventually, I realized it wasn't like that, (I read bits and pieces here and there about A Net saying they weren't going to continue to raise the level cap, but haven't read much about it) and that it was something else.

I wasn't completely sure what it was really. If it has something to do with levelling the Masteries, then I may yet look this up on the GW 2 Wiki to see if there is anything about it there.

Thanks for letting me know.

You are correct, there has been no increase in the character level cap. Instead of that, the Mastery system is a way for them to give us continued interest in earning experience points, without directly increasing character power. Masteries are things like the ability to glide, use certain types of mushrooms in the new zones, craft legendary precursors, or use certain vendors to buy special items.

The number you see next to a player's name now will be white if they are level 1-80, but if they have any Masteries learned, you will instead see a gold number representing the Mastery points that player has spent.

Enemies can be over 80, player characters cannot.

You are fooling yourself, user. Nothing here is what it seems. ANet is not the plucky hero, Guru is not an evil empire, and this is not the grand arena.
