Sure, you would. If you were justifying why the cost of a 100 dollar watch vs 10 dollar watch.

You're trying to make a decision, price factors into the decision.

I pay more for a particular piece of hardware because I want it to work, I want it to be reliable and I have faith in the people providing the product.

If I didn't give two craps beyond an immediate need, I would probably buy the crappier, cheaper product.

if you want my opinion, GW2 has a LONG WAY to go to even step up near WoW's level. It's PvE fails, it's WvWvW was done half-assed, levelling and skill system is extremely stale. There's too many things "wrong" with the game.

Let me guess. It's going to be two(!) new level 80 maps void of any meaningful content and filled to the brim with the most obnoxious enemies to date. Along with another snoozefest, bug oozing one time event and some more useless items added to this Black Lions Chest.

The comparison of times between WoW and GW2 aren't tied to their existence. It's tied to the time they were able to hold my attention. WoW managed to do that from it's very release date to 2010. while GW2 lost me after 2 weeks. And GW2 was in advantage here, being that it's a much newer game and had all the time in this world to learn from other games, even from WoW. GW2 has INCOMPETENCE written all over it.

This post is one of the best I have read lately.  Finally an opinion I agree with that isn't just some basic brick wall answer of "I like it(or hate it) cuz I like(or hate) it, problem?" b/s which promotes nothing but rage since it says nothing.

GW2 really brought me back into MMOs, but in a bad way for the game itself.  It just made me crave other MMOs I have already played from the past like WoW.  It didn't make me stick with GW2 and want to stay with the game at all.  The game feels one and done style, meaning you play it til you "finish" a goal which just isn't the way to do an MMO.  Other MMOs you play and never "finish" because their is way too much to do.

I hate how so many people since release make comments like "it's free so don't complain" or "it has more content than any game at release". Comments like those really make me annoyed as a gamer as it just sounds like fishing for reasons.  Clearly these things do not mark a great game and it takes a lot more than just that.  It also says nothing about the game itself in any way.  I just feel like their is a huge disconnect with these people who think this way about a game.

So just because it's free and has more content you take it and that makes things all good?  Not how the real world or gaming works.  If people are giving away free cookies do you take them just b/c they are free? Even if they look or smell disgusting and will make you sick if you eat it?

i think a lot of you guys are missing the point still. gw2 does not need any type of stat progression. the very fact that it's currently in the game, is upsetting a large portion of the population. guild wars 1 never had stat progression, in fact, it's really not needed in any mmo to be honest -- it's a waste of time and resources. it's better to add more enjoyable content and cosmetic items, this is not world of pandashit... population of gw2 will continue to drop if they increase stats because wow does it wayyyyy better.im sure there is a lot of people that would of never played this game if they would've known what anet planned to do in future updates.

And GW2 players still are a niche crowd. The only difference was that GW1 catered to this niche crowd by offering it something that couldn't be found anywhere else on the market, while GW2 caters to its niche crowd by offering it things that can easily be found in other games out there. Not only that, other games actually do this better.

Or do we really think that a game, where designers spent years to bring it in line with the idea of horizontal progression will do vertical progression better than a game that is designed for it?

I don't think this proves what you think it proves at all, OP.

What this proves is that predatorial, exploitative, insidious business models can exist in both pay-to-own and subscription models. What we have to watch out for in the future isn't the financial model, but whether any of the people involved have acted like sharks. I know I won't trust an NCsoft product ever again. Blade & Soul, WildStar, and any future titles are all off my list solely because they're NCsoft. With NCsoft being obviously owned by Nexon at this point, it's clear that future games will only be more predatory, not less.

And I'm not the kind of sheep who'll roll over and take bad punishment up the butt. I actually respect myself enough to not stand for that. So NCsoft isn't getting any more of my money. So long, ArenaNet. It was nice knowing you when you were you. Back when you were the ArenaNet that put together the likes of Prophecies, when you actually believed in your passions, rather than the shameless construct of exploitation you've become today.

Not make them in the first place. A company with 7+ years experience in this field should know a lot better. Especially their president who is one of its founders. Yet he goes around on reddit and spits in their entire GW1 playerbase faces by saying that it was boring and stagnant due to the lack of vertical progression. Shown in replies from the AMA they themselves thought that the introduction of Ascended gear was rushed and poorly designed yet they went with it. If you're a game developer and already know what havoc your latest content will cause but you introduce it despite all odds then I honestly question your capabilities and whether you even want to produce good content for your playerbase or just throw them a bone to play with for a while. Considering all of this makes any kind of apology completely meaningless. Only actions are what counts right now and knowing ArenaNet there won't be any before next year regarding this.

TLDR: The vocal community is always going to complain about every update. Some more then others. Move on.

Just because we are vocal doesn't necessarily imply that all our views are only in the minority. As far as this ascended issue is concerned, I tend to think that most players in the game would agree with us and that we are a part of the vocal majority as far as this issue is concerned.

Again, instead of twisting words, if you don't believe our poll to be indicative, then feel free to supply your own evidence to support your view that most players in the game support ArenaNet's stance with the vertical progression and ascended gear grind. I am still waiting for that, from you.

The game has died. They broke their manifesto, broke the "when it's ready" mantra and delivered a sub-par product. The only people that are left are playing because it has no sub. If it had one the game would be closing servers in a few months...

I came to a game that promised me no gear grind for TOP stats armor , just for looks...

Wait , what do i see now? Gear grind at its best. WoW style.

So nop , people that came hoping Anet would keep their promises like me are also on the quitting stage now.
