#2164592 Lunch with Colin Johanson - Give Us Your Questions!

Posted Al Shamari on 15 February 2013 - 08:42 PM

1) They've talked about the open world loot system several times in the past and even made an attempt to "fix" it (or so they've said). Yet, many players are still entirely dissatisfied. There is no real chance of something "amazing" dropping, no real sense that you're earning anything important. So instead, you're stuck grinding dungeons for tokens, etc in order to purchase gear. I think many will agree with me when it makes the game feel very stale, you always know what you're going to get, there's no sense of excitement or surprise in the game after awhile. Do they feel that this system is how they would like to continue forth or are they still actively trying to address the issue of open world loot to give people some sense of excitement while boss hunting or running the events, etc?

I will probably have more questions I will edit into this post over time.

The issue is that by making guild-exclusive content, A.Net decided to intentionally exclude these guilds. If you can't get a guild group together, then you can't do this content.
And I don't really think GW2 needs more content that will exclude folks.

Yea because there is so much content that excludes people..
/sarcasm

These plans sound quite promising, and it's really a good thing that they realize they need to polish what is already in the game, not attempt to feed half-assed new content to people that will devour it in moments and cry for more immediately after.

1.
Does that mean we'll see new tiers in 2014?

2.
With no free waypoint travel, ZQuests 2.0 will get really old, really fast. Not only that, but the fact that you could do dailies ANYWHERE in the world was what made them worth doing.

3.
Oh fantastic! Lets promote super huge guilds even more, shall we?

4.
Server pride? Really? So I am guessing folks on shitty WvW servers should move now before they get stuck?
So you can't find one single thing in that entire blog post to be positive about?

#2142867 "Amazing" design.

Posted xtbx on 15 January 2013 - 02:37 PM

Why would this be considered good design? An area where you can barely see anything, with narrow ledges that you need to traverse using the game's poor control system, while fighting foes that fear you and being surrounded by more foes that are incredibly easy to target due to the insanely poor targeting system, which then puts you into combat mode, decreasing your ability to jump, ...
Now, clearly, there are even worse offenders than this, but that just makes it worse - this isn't the worst piece of shit-ass design one will encounter in this game.

Why must the difficulty in this game be achieved through moronic/poorly executed ideas instead of the game actually being difficult? Why must the players find themselves fighting the controls or the poor camera instead of their opponents?

EDIT:
The reason why I singled out THIS JP was because I was doing it and was reminded of the stupid design that I experienced in other parts of the game. It served as a reminder so I plastered a shot of it, plus it helps explain the problem more visually.
So advice on how to finish THIS JP, while interesting, isn't the point of this. ^^
poor control system is actually just your poor skills in controling your character
about visibility - it's your poor skills in setting your monitor brightness corectly

I did'n even knew it's JP till I got the reward for completing it ... just admit that you are bad and stop raging at forum ;)

#2136076 Rytlock action figure

Posted klhyatt on 05 January 2013 - 10:31 PM

I've always wanted one...
I guess i went out and made one for myself!

Posted Image

Posted Image
(i hope the images aren’t too big)
i’m going to attach more too this post! i’m not the best at postsPosted Image.
Ever since Beta i’ve loved Rytlocks character. I even received the cuddly toy as a present but decided to take it one step further by making a posable action figure.
This may seem strange at first but i’m actually learning to make toys and products as a job and am currently in my final year of university. The point of me making this was to take a character that i particularly love the style and personality of and recreate it to a level that i was happy with.
I’ve been quite nervous to post this up, i think over the time of making it i grew quite attached to this project and it’s become quite a personal little thing. (and there will only ever be one!)
He’s about 25cm tall (and a bit wobbly on the legs) but hes a heavy toy and very sturdy (probably like the real character).

Like a lot of things, he started life as an armature on my laptop.
Posted Image
I usually use Zbrush to make most of my figures and other programs for the joint addition. He took about 5 days to make as i found his slightly peculiar body shape hard to add joints in that would be suitable for a real physical toy (not falling over on his face).
Posted Image
Next thing you know, you have a little monster sitting on your desk slightly sticky and in pieces. Well its not quite that simple but converting a model to print and then cleaning it is very tedious and gross. All his parts alone took around 45 hours just to print out. He was printed on an Objet24.

Once you’ve got your primed and slightly…. stable Rytlock, then you just paint him! This took about a week on and off with mostly airbrushing and hand painting for things like eyes.
The base in the final full image is the GW2 logo, laser cut from Mirrored red acrylic, and opal white acrylic.
Also he was based on an older version of Rytlock not used in the game as it is now, but i always remember this one as being my favorite ;p
Sorry for all the images and messyness i'm not a great forum poster :)
But for more work i have a blog with more images on:
http://klhyatt.wordpress.com/
Next will be his sword, i haven’t quite worked that one out yet but the flame will probably be tinted resin. but right now i need a break!
I hope you guys like him.

#1807816 To Arenanet: Good Luck.

Posted cesmode on 24 August 2012 - 04:08 PM

Since we are roughly 12 hours away from what could be the official begin of head start, I just wanted to take a moment to thank Arenanet for their hardwork, dedication, and responsiveness(with regard to our feedback).  You have developed a great MMO, and I hope launch goes smoothly, not only for us players but you as developers.

Make us proud and good luck!

I also wanted to add that I am not soliciting a response from Arenanet, just wishing them success with the launch!

Requests closed for the time being as I update the list and get rid of inventory. Please do not post "just in case" responses - they'll be ignored. Thanks everyone! I'll be on sporadically from now until the end of the weekend. After that I'm moving across the country and won't really have access to computer/internet for a while, so get in touch with me (if you're on the list) while you can!

  • Xpheus: can get 40/50 (+3 points), 3 in valor
I'll be working from this list for now. I haven't even gotten through all of the posts, yet!
If your name is on this list, it is up to you to PM me here and arrange a time to meet in game! Or, just find me in game (IGN: Illfated Fat). Also, it's "first come, first serve." Even if you're on the list, I can't guarantee that supplies will last!

Folks,

Pre-release is in a couple days, full release in just under a week.

I have a bit of a dilemma. I've already got a couple GWAMMs and a 50/50 HoM, but still have hundreds of armbraces and thousands of ecto. I've been holding on to it for some unknown reason over the years. I haven't really played Guild Wars in a couple years and I'm starting grad school in the fall so I won't have much time for Guild Wars 2 (not like GW1 wealth would benefit me at this point). So... what 2 do?

It's time to give it away. It's just time. Consider me your personal bank, except the only thing you do is make withdrawals.

Couple notes & restrictions:
- You must post your Hall of Monuments link and preferably your IGN
- You must have at least 25 points (if you don't by this point, I'm assuming it didn't matter much to you)
- You must have the intent of playing Guild Wars 2
- Do not PM me on the forums or in game unless I contact you first or you're 'on the list'. No begging, no expectations. Not everyone may get something
- I'm going to fking lynch any scammers and shut this down immediately if I come across one. Don't be a selfish prick.
- Addendum: if you're going to ask for help on consumable titles, please post your progress on them! =)

When you post, I'll check out your HoM and see how many points I can get you reasonably easily (no, I'm likely not going to buy anyone a full Drunkard Title. If it's half done, that's another story).

I can has sum free stuffs?
Posted Image
Yes, you can has sum free stuffs!

Happy Guild Wars 2, everyone. :) May the legacy continue!

P.S. In case anyone wonders - I'm posting it here instead of GWG because the people on this forum actually show interest in GW2
P.P.S. I had to post this again because my last attempt at giving my stuff away didn't work. I guess I wasn't obvious enough D:

If you would like to whine, criticize, rage, cry, send me pictures of sad kittens, or otherwise comment on just how unfair and unjust this kindness is, please direct those comments into my inbox. This thread is for people who are requesting help with their HoM. The guidelines have been decided and that's that.

At first it said "unique weapon" now it says "special item" lol

actually davadude its guru's own frontpage thing that says "unique weapon", maybe changing that will help avoid some confusion.
