Starting to "merge" server maps when the population on certain maps dips beneath a certain threshold might be a good idea. Heroes and Henchmen would just clutter things up enormously in this shared open world. It worked nice in the instanced zones of GW1, but it would quickly become a burden in GW2. There are better ways to make sure you always have a proper chance of finding any "help" around you to tackle certain champions in events. Or just make them scale better for extremely low player numbers (1 or 2 players attacking one foe). Some champions from DEs can be a pain, even with 3 or 4 people engaging it.

I'm a Guild Wars 1 veteran player, played Guild Wars 1 since it came out. When Anet announced they were gonna make Guild Wars 2 I'm like hell ya this is gonna be awesome etc. Later down when Anet started to show Guild Wars 2 gameplay footage at the gaming conventions it looked pretty sick. Then they started to do the beta weekends, when I played the beta I was pretty much blown away from it. it was fun for me was different from other MMOs, wasn't copying that WoW clone like a lot of MMOs do these days. Been playing Guild Wars 2 since its been released and having a blast. One thing I like about Guild Wars 2 no monthly fees can play little bit take a break come back and the game is there waiting for me.

Now onto the people complaining about Guild Wars 2. Most of these people are rushing through the game, trying to play it like other MMOs are played. If you rush through the game you are gonna get bored just like any other MMO you rush through. Some of the people who are complaining don't have any friends to play with, guild, etc. Let the game take you wherever, go out kill some stuff events come up go to them, go to the next event near by, gather. Don't force yourself to sit there and play, not fun at all. Stop complaining on forums, sites, blogs your complaining is not gonna change other peoples minds just wasting your time. If you don't like Guild Wars 2 why are you on guildwars2.com, guildwars2guru.com, all the other guild wars 2 forums/fan sites. What does your complaining really do?

All the content Guild Wars 2 has just at released is a lot. Imagine what expansions gonna be like, probably gonna add Elona and Cantha to Guild Wars 2. On expansions they are gonna be adding a lot of stuff like new armor, new weapons, pvp maps, level cap rise, etc. Can't wait for what Anet will be doing for expansions.

Some may agree others may not, doesn't matter cause everybody has their own opinions.

Something said in text carries with it no context. Not to mention, this is something that needs to be taken up with Anet, not the community here. Especially given the nature of this kind of discussion, it's not something that belongs on this forum. The sociological and philosophical connotations can also be discussed elsewhere.

I bought this game because it was going to get away from instances.  It was going to be a persistant world. But here we go with Wintersday and what do we get a 5-man INSTANCE. Go back to the Holloween model as soon as possible. It was more persistant.  You went. You played. You got some stuff. You left. You didn't have to listen to crap from anyone about why you lost or people being kicked.  I came here because of the events and so far Wintersday is one big instance flop.

For crying out loud its Wintersday let's be inclusive.  The jumping puzzle at Holloween was too hard for me and so probably is the one here. The music one I just don't understand yet, I have to give it some time.

But so far this game is more expensive than WoW or Rift.  I've spent more on gems than a year for eithor of the others.

Yes I do intend to eventually do pvp  however for now I have one reason to enter wvw and that is to tame a Wolf, this is the only part of the game where they can be obtained.
Suppose you are in wvw trying to beat another server and half the players on your side are off busy exploring maps capping wolves and dying rather than forming part of a cohesive group trying to actually win, wouldnt you find that annoying.

Initially, I did think it would be annoying to have players taking up valuable"space" and not contributing, then I realized its a double edged sword.

There would be undoubtedly players on the opposing sides doing the same thing. So then it becomes how your server could make use of the situation.

Also, the group of enemies distracted enough to chase squirrels are the same bunch that are not where they should be, attacking what they should not be attacking.

But I digress.
As long as an activity does not require winning an engagement against another player, I cannot count it as one that forces players to pvp. Where the activity has to be done is not really relevant.

It is up to the player to find ways to overcome a challenge, which in this case may be to avoid enemy players.

I don't find it anymore different than if Anet had place some champion mob I can't kill alone at some POI.

The exploring is indeed boring, especially once you hit level 80. But that is not the point of the game. Try hitting the Arah dungeon, which is the hardest dungeon currently available - and you will realize how end game content IS, and WILL be. Southsun is quite difficault, while fractals requires imaginative tactics.

The problem here is that there are too many WOW players that feel the game is too different to what they are used to, and review the differences as negatives. It is a DIFFERENT game, yes, even though they are categorized in the same, genre, MMORPG. You have to get used to the idea that your memories from WOW will not be replicated in GW2. You will create new memories and new experience with GW2 and that is what you lot are really scared of. Also, this game is 3 months old. WoW is for god how long alive.

There also the old school GW players (like me) who ridiculously received a brain-clear out in gaming once they started to play GW2.
Did you forget prophecies? What did you have to do there after completing the missions? Even SF was added only later. There werent any HM modes either. So basically, its finishing the story, getting the 15K gear, capturing a bunch of elites, repeat with a different character and thats IT. That is what you had to do for 6 months.
In GW2 you have TRIPLE  the PVE exploring available - instead of missions you get zones and personal story. You don't have elite skill capture. What you do currently have - 9 dungeons to complete, with 24 different paths, jumping puzzles, and * me, TRIPLE pve content compared to prophcies. Yes, again. You also have triple the armor sets available that you can acquire(dungeons, drops, karma), you have skills you can level. * me that's only a little of the content that runs to my head currently.
Don't forget that prophecies was also A LOT different when it first came. Remember how you had to catch elite skills? Or how the skill points/attributes was different?
Once factions came, a huge amount of playable content has been added, including PVP content.

Give it time, patience is a virtue. there are a lot of FREE content coming up in jan/feb, and so far Anet are trying their best to fix as many bugs as possible. I had so much headache with Arah not been available. It's fixed now, ladies.

One more tip: It's much more fun playing than complaining. It's true I swear - I couldn't believe it myself, but it actually works.

As it is some here consider WOW perfect and Anet and GW2 a big fat failure, I think them wrong on both counts.

Anet are not a perfect company and they have messed up in some areas but GW2 is still imo an awsome game.

Software development is an evolution.  The idea is that the same mistakes become harder to make.  The flaws are smaller.  You get more robust tools, libraries and processes that keep that from happening.  Only when something new and innovative is done is there more room for error.

People are very forgiving.  Such as the Trading Post.  Yes, some people complained, but the community in general were forgiven because a game-wide auction house had never been done before.

The issue comes when there are fundamental issues with the game that drive down into the core.  Like map exploration being blocked because of bugged Skill Point Challenges.  That's a critical block in QA.  You have impeded the ability for people to achieve one of the goals of the game with this bug and the only workaround requires a server restart.

Other events are things like bugged Orr events for opening Arah.  Those also require a server restart to unclog.

It's scale and severity.

An application that needs to be kicked every few hours because of a memory leak is different from an app that locks up your computer every five minutes.

MAYBE arenanet should put things in the gem shop that people would actually buy.. instead of altering the game to push people towards buying things they dont want from cash shop.

Like maybe more armor skins. This game is all about aesthetics (apart from skills), but they should always add more variety and looks with armor skins. I wouldn't mine buying a cool skin for 800 gems that'll make my character look less like a hobo. Although, I wouldn't spend gems on RNG thru chests to get them. No way.

Regardless of some of the cynical misery's that always seem to post their pessimism with things like this, I am looking forward to this event! I loved Halloween....it wasn't perfect, but so far ANet are creating the best mmo holiday-themed events I've ever played.

Ordinary mobs and Veteran creatures are no problem.

There have only been two champion fights that I have had to run from become I was unable to outrace DPS. Traiting heavy into BM is a sure bet to wipe the floor with most champions (some I have even beaten without pet swapping). I usually end most Champ fights near full health because I can out heal/ mitigate them into the ground.

I would urge you to try the ranger. My best solution is to use your pets as partners and not fire and forget weapons. The more you utilize and synergize your play with your pets the better and more effective your ranger will be.

In my opinion they shouldn't add more levels, just more character progression in form of new Skills, Traits and Weaponskills and new Types of weapons.

I was one of many that have jumped from many MMO's and gone back and tried them again gamers

1) Ultima Online

2) Dark Age of Camelot

3) Ultima Online

4) GW1

5) Warhammer Online

6) Ultima Online

7) GW1

8) GW2

* Voyage Century Online and Rappelz are two ftp games I play from time to time but it's been a long while since I played them.

GW1 finally had me settled down and I enjoyed it. I could just play and play when I had time. I enjoy GW2 and I really have fun playing the game. I came to the conclusion that I enjoyed many of the MMO's I have tried but GW2 will be my final stop in MMO's.

Elder Scrolls Online looks good and all but truly I am tired of running in circles to try to find "THE" game. It's not the game's fault but more my issues  what I did in the game and why I left. Some MMO's can be classified as a series of bad dates. I kind of view it now as the "its not you but me" routine when I walked away from the MMO.

GW2 may not be for everybody but I am sticking with it. I hope some that are looking find the game they do enjoy. Thats what games are all about. Fun and enjoyment.
