Want to throw in a concept of a pay-to-enter, self-enclosed advance progression zone.
Will call it the “Wrap Realm” (thought it could be themed to different themes)
The zone will be similar to any other map, with its own Events, vistas, point of interests, hearts, etc. Unlike a dungeon, it will be open (but would still have some more mini-dungeon like areas interspersed). Also would have more boss mobs, and more challenging encounters. However, there are some difference, mainly in entrance, leveling, and reward.
To enter, you need a Key-to-Seal Door. It would be a rare drop item in the world, and tradable. However, it could also be purchased in gem shop (there for, the pay-to-enter side). (I elect to the gem shop, since as a dream-to-be-dev, I somewhat appreciate the business side of gaming)
Here, will reuse some of my old ideas, and bring back the concept of Power Orbs.
First of all, there will be a separate leveling bar for killing mobs in the zone, much like the Titles of GW1. (Can title it “Conquistador of Wrap” CoW or something). It not only add some passive buffs as you increase its level, it also allow you equip more Power Orbs.
Power Orbs are mid-rare drop in the realm, as well as can be purchased with Wrap Coins (its own currency in the realm). They various in grades, and provide different buffs and stat boost to you. Think of them as itemized-level ups.
However, at low level CoW, you can only have 1 Power Orb at time (granted you can swap out too). And at later level, you can have lot more equipped. Also the merchant offers only small choice of Orbs when you are low level. But as you gain in title, they will offer more and better grades (thus allow you to start stronger/keep your progression)
Of course, the boost and benefit of the Title and Orb only exist in the realm, and gone after you exit (you will keep your title’s progress, but any Orb will be remove) Orb also can’t not be traded or kept in inventory (it is not treated as an item, but as a pick-up Powerup).
The Progression is needed, cause the furher you go into the Realm, the more powerful the mob you will face (like lv 100+ mobs)
Beside the usual gold, exp, and karma. Beside the Title leveling and Warp coins and Power orbs. You also get unique skinned weapons and armor. They can be got as drop, or bought with wrap coins. Their stats will be the same as other weapons and armor you find elsewhere (beside maybe some new mods). However, certain gears will also come in Tiers. This mean that they become more powerful when they are use in the Realm (Tier 1 could be a lv 80 weapon stats, while Tier 5 be like lv 100).
