Gear grind = lazy developers

As the title says, gear grind is just a lazy way to get people to log on and grind some content for a while. That's what bothers me about this whole thing the most. Making content people want to play because it's fun? Too hard. Let's just +5 some stats and call it a day.

And the worst part is, it's a complete illusion that the players fall for. Your character DOES NOT get more powerful. Bigger numbers don't mean anything, because everyone else is also upgrading to get the bigger numbers. What really happens is your character becomes LESS powerful, and now you have to go perform some repetitive tasks to get back to where you were before. The only reason the illusion works is because everyone believes that 2,100 damage is better than 2,000 even though the actual number is irrelevant and all that matters is how much damage you do compared to another player. Before I quit WoW, my character had over 100k HP. Does that mean WoW is better than GW2, because the number is bigger?

The really stupid thing is up until the gear grind thing I thought Anet was really onto something with the update. The new dungeon gets harder and harder until you can't progress any more. That's a perfect setup for competitive PvE. People will try to get farther than their friends, farther than anyone else on the server, farther than anyone else in the world. You could add prizes for best run of the day. So many possibilities. And we get some garbage rings added in with no incentive to pick them up except now you need them or your character isn't good enough anymore.
