I'm sorry to be a buzzkill but didn't you basically level to 80 in WvW then, not in Ascalon?
Not trying to diminish your accomplishment at all, must've still taken a long ass time.

Sure the birthday gift is a bit boring, but it's already better than what we got in GW1(as well as most(all?) other MMOs).
I'd much rather have a set gift for everyone than the RNG box we got in the first game. Do we really need more RNG loot in this game?

To be honest, I was never a fan of the whole birthday thing. I had characters that I wanted to delete but didnt because I didn't want to lose out on my birthday gifts.

PVE Culling removal is fricking amazing though! Been waiting a long time for this! :D

Interesting things, see how armor sreens are race specific? It is strange , since we already saw radiant armor on human, but here it says it's locked to charr. Why is it locked, since it's not race specific? (also, they are transmutated)

Sounds like a cool update, looking forward to it.

As you mentioned, they are transmuted(So they keep the stats of the previous item, even race restrictions I guess). The charr in the picture is wearing full racial armor with the new skins applied  hence why they are race restricted. :)

In Topic: Picking a pet class

I haven't played necro much but here's my 2 cents.

The difference is that the Necro is a class that has access to pets, whereas Ranger is the pet class.
The necro can choose to do pets well, or when you get bored, do something else entirely.

The ranger on the other hand can choose to do pets very good, or just good. Whatever way you choose to trait your character, your pet will always be a huge portion of your damage(or lack thereof!). In addition to this, the ranger has 8 different utilities and(to a lesser extent) one elite skill that focuses directly on your pet.

Personally I've had my Ranger since release and I still probably count it as my "main" just because I like the class itself so much. However, I cannot stand the pet just because it's such a huge part of the class, and it doesn't do what it does very well and ArenaNet doesn't seem very keen on trying to 'fix' it.

If you want a class that can use pets, but aren't restricted to them, go Necro.
If you want a class that revolves around their pets, go for the Ranger. However, I wouldn't recommend the class to anyone before ArenaNet has done something to make pets more viable.
