I check my orders about twice a day on average, for about 10-20 minutes each time.  I have one character set up near a Black Lion TP (Trading Post) and hopefully a bank (so that I can buy items and leave them for my main), that way I can use that character to primarily trade with.  I log into that character before I start playing, check my orders, collect items I have bought from buy orders, put them up for sale, reset my buy orders that have been out bid.

I would bet that only checking the market once a day, or even every other day, for 15 minutes, you could make a decent amount.  I would just be careful leaving up buy orders for too long (more than a week) without checking on the price of the item, because item pricing fluctuates a lot in this market.  You could hit it big with a few items, but you could also be stuck with items that you bought for more than they currently sell for.
