Written in... February. Since no one knew about the end game until now, and now we see what it is, I think that article can be summarily and categorically dismissed.
In my opinion, the article is quite accurate compared to the current state of the game. But whatever. Some people enjoy Gw2 and some don't.

The point of progressing in Guild Wars 2 is because in Guild Wars 2, it's actually fun to progress; the reward is the progression itself. Personal story, WvW, Dynamic events etc. If none of those things enjoy you, then I suggest playing another game. :P

@ Sycophantix

Actually the open beta for Guild Wars 2 was enjoyed by the majority.
Have you played the open beta yet? Because in my opinion the gameplay didn't feel clunky at all and the quest lines were really well implemented.

As far as the ability spamming, it's possible to do so, however, when you choose your abilities tactfully the damage output will be much higher and much more rewarding, especially in PvP.

Guild Wars 2 is a different game than Tera and both combat systems feel "next gen" in my opinion, so why not play both? Guild Wars 2 doesn't have a subscription fee and both games are very cheap like you pointed out. (:
