#1831425 Play Guild Wars 2 as it's meant to be played, with a controller.

Posted Zakov on 28 August 2012 - 03:06 AM

I don't get why everyone is so against this. Its existence isn't making YOU play with a controller, so chillax. Those who want to play with one will, and those who don't won't. Don't be kids about it.

#2097821 Incoming Firegrab nerf

But you're only counting Fire Grab, you can hit Phoenix for 80-90% of Fire Grab's damage with less than half the cooldown. In addition you are pinging lots of 1-2k hits from things like Sunspot and Static Discharge, and Lightning Strike. A S/D glass cannon can basically chain 6k Fire Grab + 5k Phoenix + 1-2k each from Sunspot, Discharge, Lightning Strike, Arcane Utilities can add another 2k each. Those are very realistic numbers for a glass cannon crit, they can go a lot higher with Grounded/Scholar/Vital Striking bonuses. In controlled tests I can land 14k Phoenix even. And that's not even touching hard to land skills like Dragon's Tooth or Churning Earth, nor does it include auto attacks. However Half are AoE burst, and the other half are instant cast. Our burst isn't limited to just Fire Grab, all that other stuff has lower cooldowns.

An ele's combo (with DT) takes 4 or so seconds to fully execute, with a 1 second (or so it seems) window for the enemy to stunbreaker or otherwise move out of the DT red circle, meaning his whole combo is suddenly for naught. On the other hand, thief can execute his combo in under 1 second, invisible the entire time, and hey, if that doesn't work, hit a HS or two to finish them off. In short:

Ele's have to hit a still target, while thieves can do as much damage, if not more, while invisible, instantly, on moving targets. As if that's not enough, a Ele, when his combo is over, cannot simply just shadowstep away if the target isn't dead/enemy countered his combo. A thief can do all of that and more.

#2084710 Best dungeon experience ever!

Posted powercozmic on 17 November 2012 - 09:51 AM

For some reason everytime I open this forums, there's about 90% whine and moan and doom threads. I'm gonna be the ugly ducking here.

Don't care what enyone else things. Fractals is imo the best dungeon experience I've had ever - also one of my best gaming experiences. Maybe I'm just not into the loot or something, the dungeon design and the mood it created was awesome!

This is just an appreciation thread. Feel free to post what you feel about the fractals dungeons.

Thanks Anet. Take my money!

#2005754 Elementalist vs. Mesmer (Aky vs. Tsunkyr)

Posted Aky on 09 October 2012 - 03:02 PM

I actually got positive feedback o.o
I'm surprised..

1.) It's not realistic anyway because anything apart from a real tournament situation it is not realistic anyway by definition.
2.) He was the best mesmer I had on my friends list on Riverside. If you can do better, post your own Mesmer vs. Ele video.
3.) In no way am I saying I would win against all mesmers right now. I thought it was worth sharing the video so you can all see 1) my mistakes and 2) that it's not totally impossible to kill a mesmer (which I feel like 95% of the forum community assumed).

It was a new situation for both of us. We both had 0 experience in ele/mesmer duels.
After the match he even told me "We gotta repeat this tomorrow, I'd like to practice more. I still don't know whether S/S or S/P is better against you but it feels like the stun on S/P is superior against Ele."
He isn't bad, we were just not used to such a duel.

I agree on the LoS thing but I disagree that the mesmer is the only one who can profit from that ;)

Build is the same I'm using in all videos from now on. I posted it already, it's [S/D] Aggressive Boon Ele. It got its name because of how it's played, if you're not playing aggressively you will fail. He was playing 20/20/0/0/30 with additional Staff bounce trait.

And lastly, a bit offtopic:
4.) In my opinion it's complete nonsense to collect all videos in a single thread. Videos are (usually) a work of art which take quite a lot of time to make (some more, some less) and I think each video from every person deserves its own thread. Just because there is a video collection thread it doesn't mean I'll play along with that retarded decision and I absolutely don't care if I get an infraction for that. I don't know why it's been decided to do that but it definitely needs to be changed. I might come to an agreement when we're talking about tons of completely unedited matches. That's fine. Anything else is not. My 2 cents.

#1954759 "There is no content"

Posted kKagari on 21 September 2012 - 09:08 AM

So there are people on this forum who say GW2 lacks content/is boring etc. Lets get the small one out of the way first. If you don't enjoy GW2, thats ok. If you are finding it boring, that's ok too. For all intensive discussion purposes, GW2 can be the worst game to ever exist, taking the crown from E.T.. That's ok.

But now, apparently, there is a lack of content. Remember, this is different to 'I don't find the content fun'. There is also the exclamations that there is no new content, when the game has neared the end of its first month.

So I ask you this first; what is your /age. How much did you pay for the game? I paid the full 60 USD. The last game I paid 60USD for which lasted me over 30 hours was Dark Souls. It took me 30 hours to complete the game for the first time, and considerably less on subsequent playthrus. I clocked about 90 hours total in the end.

At the time of writing this, I have spent 110 hours in GW2. None of which was in AFK. I considered all 110 hours of that time spent, fun. But fun, is beside the point in this topic, just to reiterate. What I find fun doesn't equate to what others find fun. But I'm completing content in the game, designed by the developers. My map completion is 31% and I've peppered some of that play time in with PvP and dungeon runs.

I paid 60USD for this. Not a cent more. Which other 60USD AAA game have you played recently that offered more than 30 hours of game time on your first play through. I say 30 because a skillful player, unaided by others, only doing PvE content, will probably have hit 80 and slayed the final boss. Why has it suddenly become expected of Arenanet to churn out new content like it is a subscription MMO?

Then there are those who say 'I'm going back to WoW' like it is a threat to Arenanet or the forum community. I don't care as much as the next guy. Why can't you play both games at once? Do you not have OTHER 60USD games installed on your computer? Does playing WoW delete those games from your hard drive?

TL;DR: This is a 60USD game, you can probably count with one hand how many other 60USD games that have constant content updates for free, with content that can last over 50hrs. Regardless of how fun you find this game or not, it is not lacking content.

#1894656 Do you reckon Arenanet has damaged their reputation?

Posted Darkobra on 07 September 2012 - 12:20 AM

Nope. In two years, people will forget this even existed. There will always be something new to talk about. When the next expansion comes out, people will be saying that GW2 is a godsend and the expansion ruined it. Same with the following expansion. "GW2 and its first expansion were godsends! They should have left it there!"

People complain about nothing. And honestly, if this is the biggest complaint you have in your life, I'll trade lives with you right now. If your biggest complaint is "My fully functional game isn't what I thought it was", then please swap me.

#1854178 Kinda bored of the game already

Posted Sifflion on 31 August 2012 - 11:16 AM

I think is not your game type :(. I spent many hours and im still lvl 30 trying to not lvl up while doing everything. I dont even touched PvP or WvWvW because im still having lots of fun with PvE lol ( and im a PvP player... ).
Motivation? having fun with guildies, we even did a race yesterday on the asura jump puzzle.

#1854138 Kudos to Anet for taking care of undesirable players.

Posted zwei2stein on 31 August 2012 - 11:08 AM

In first week of game, developers did one very brave thing: They went ahead and slapped people hard for misbehaving:

* Name bans
* Hate speech bans (with hilariously outed "innocent people")
* Botting bans
* Respawning DE exploit rollbacks and bans.
* Exploits like karma vendor bans.

Let me be the one to say loudly: Good job. You just set very high standard. And made sure people listen because 3 day ban is very harsh right after start. Hopefully this will make anyone think thrice before doing something stupid.

Thumbs up.
