In Topic: Over 32 Million Viewers Tuned in to League of Legends Season 3 World Finals

22 November 2013 - 08:44 AM

Yes it is very successful, Twitch.tv recently got a featured article in Forbes magazine because of the viewership of LoL season 3 finals, the article's title being "The ESPN of Videogames" lmao. It's also chalk full of little hype-ups like e-sports may one day rival second tier American spectator sports like soccer and hockey.

Either way, this is seriously gaining momentum, it gets bigger and bigger every year, Staples Center even sold out for the finals. Some of my friends, many of whom don't even game, went to one of the tournament days this year and was totally unexpected. I walk around campus and see some people wearing Riot jackets, or those champion hats, and different booths for clubs and fraternities talking about what/how they're going to play league of legends later that night with a bunch of friends.

Corsair has all the right ideas about barriers of entry, LoL is very accessible and is suited to the majority of younger people today since it is fast, doesn't take a lot of time, and can be played both cooperatively and competitively, it's the sweet spot game genre between "casual" and "hardcore" imo.

In Topic: Xbox One & Playstation 4 Thread

No console for me this coming generation, the need just isn't there, I already have a PS3 for playing my Blu-rays, and a lot of the games I want coming to these consoles (such as BF4 and Watch Dogs) are coming to the PC anyway, I'll just buy a bigger monitor and an xbox controller and call it a console...

The good news is that both your armor and your runes are still useful

you could try this:

it's a sword/shield + GS build like you asked for (and is even more powerful than in the video atm because shouts got buffed)

Edit4: I know I will take heat for this since I argued against it, but I know the benefits it will bring. Put like 5-10 guys on making GvG, and guild halls. Also have them work on updating the Home district. Along with this give multiple types of sPvP gameplay like GW1 of old, you know Random Arena, Fort Aspenwood, Jade Quarry, HoH, etc, you dont even have to put them on seperate achivement tracks, just let people pvp and go nuts.

I think this is a really good idea. Especially about bringing back/porting old sPvP modes from GW1, and even moreso about not adding achievement tracks to them, I think it's about time for Anet to realize that quality gameplay will promote itself, and won't need "help" from achievement lists. This goes doubly for PvP because no one PvPs to complete achievements (in fact, from what I've seen most people who want to complete achievements try to avoid any type of PvP mode for as much as they can, including WvW)

The rest of your ideas I agree with also Graka, I just don't have an opinion on them

Lol? So zerg vs zerg would always be = dead in 1 sec?

well the idea isn't polished but I think he may have thought of it in the sense of empowering individual efforts, 50 man zergs quickly become useless if a 5 man team can just AoE the crap out of them in a well coordinated effort.

In Topic: Leveling in WvW Viable?

it's decently fast if you communicate with your server's main commanders, you need to know when they are making a push to take everything on the map with a zerg, and join in when that time comes, the exp rolls in pretty fast when you start taking towers and keeps without a hitch.

Gear does play a role but only when smaller fights are happening, in a 50 vs 50 zerg war your personal gear doesn't matter very much if you're not melee (why would you be at a low level anyways, that's suicide), I find leveling an Elementalist, Necromancer, and possibly Engineer extremely easy in WvW, just keep at max range and spam skills and stand in circles, and you still rake in the bags in zerg fights because of their huge AoE potentials.
