#2219619 GW2 guru NOT one of the top ten sites for GW2 players?

Posted davadude on 16 July 2013 - 12:11 AM

The reasons are simple:
  • The article aims to highlight the lesser known sites.  Ask anybody about a GW2 site, and the first one that pops up is almost always Guru or a Curse related site.
  • Guru does not focus as much on resources (save for the GW2DB) or TP statistics as other websites.  That article aims at providing resources about the game to players.  Hence why GW2Wiki is on there.
  • Guru is known for having a strict moderation team (although i have yet to ever see anything out of the ordinary be done, Khalija and team keep it clean but not restricted).
  • Any discussion about the game is overshadowed by the conspiracies, "professional analysis" threads and constant bickering and circle-based reasoning discussions on the same topics over and over again by the same group of people.  You really think fans will come to a forum like that to have an interesting discussion about parts of the game they enjoy?  Of course not.

Probably the most outstanding reasons.  *goes back to enjoying vacation*

I think the key word in the OP is on guru "information is buried"...  person coming here for the first time will have to dig to find anything useful.

I'm not surprised it's not top 10, even the official forums weren't mentioned, who wants to spend their time reading other's complaints when you could be enjoying the game and using resources to augment the experience.

Players asks for progression in WvW.
Progression is added.
People complain about progression being added.

Sounds like more or less every single thing added since the release of the game.

Plus, this would be a great way to get people to stop just waypointing to events and leaving. At least they might have to work together to get to the event.

Sure, they could run it, but maybe ANet buffs the mobs in some places to put in more snares to make it more difficult to run.

This will have the exact opposite effect. Instead of people fighting through areas to get to events and feel the true adventure aspect that you want them to, they simply won't engage in the events. They ESPECIALLY won't engage in the events if they're not only out of the way, but frustrating to get to because of enemies with CC's.

I like to log onto my favorite toon
To set it up right with skill trait and boon
I like to make it amazingly strong
With many a weapon, what could go wrong?

I like to see the world as it is
From great wide open to puzzle and quiz
I like it when I can just lean back in awe
At sceneries only an artist could draw

I like to fight with many a foe
With dodging and jumping and critical blow
I like to see many a player united
To fight off the horrible monsters we've sighted

I like to customize weapon and armor
To figure out if I'm a brawler or charmer
I like how applying each dye is a bliss
Red, blue and green, wait how much is abyss!?

But generally I just like to have fun
This game has intrigued me since I first begun
Though I'm a veteran of this series of lore
I still find myself screaming "I want even more!"

Hi, my name is ChuyDog.  I like GW2.  I play the game at least three hours a day and have logged almost 1000 hours.  I still enjoy playing the game every day.  I will not make excuses for my behavior.  I owe no apologies.  I will admit there are times the game can be challenging, but that is part of playing a good game.  Anet may periodically make changes that effect my play style, but I feel that learning to adapt is part of a good game design.

What are things YOU like about the game?

Let me start first.  I like the ability to pick what I want to play, when I want to play it.  If I do not like something about my current in-game situation or feel that it is becoming a grind, I just go do something else.

Leah Rivera on New Guild Missions

Guild Missions, a new type of mission, has just been revealed by Arenanet. February’s release will include the following mission types:
  • Guild Bounty – Your guild is tasked with tracking down and capturing various targets for the Orders. These people are wanted for a variety of reasons and have all sorts of tricks up their sleeves to resist arrest!
  • Guild Trek – Think you know Tyria? Well the Tyrian Explorer’s Society has a challenge for you! Find the list of locations before time runs out.
  • Guild Challenge – These challenges leverage our existing event system but are specifically geared to require multi-group, coordinated play to succeed. So gather your guild and see if you’re up to the challenge!
  • Guild Rush – Test your skills with a mad dash over harrowing terrain, traps, and other hidden dangers. Just remember, there’s safety in numbers!
  • Guild Puzzle – It’s a puzzle and a jumping challenge all in one! This mission type requires multi-group coordination as well as individual jumping skills to get to the treasure at the end.

#2165868 Should the cap have been level 20?

Posted Lordkrall on 18 February 2013 - 11:19 AM

A rather fun thing here is that if they had left it at lvl 20, people would complain about the lack of progression.
No matter what they do there will always be people that don't like it.

I for one don't really care, I did not play to level, I leveled while I played, didn't even think about it most of the time.

If you really want to do away with leveling, give people the option to create a lvl80 character straight away.
People who want character progression, can still do so. People who want to start with gearing up for a final build straight away, can also do just that. It would fit into their "play the game to have fun now"-philosophy. Although I don't know how much of that philosophy still stands.
You'd still have to run your toon to where you want it, and they might have to look at level- and lootscaling a bit more, but it's a valid option.

Guess i am happy you are not GW2 designer.

Today just jumping around in Lion's Arch I ran into this thing in a small hole NW of the trading post. Me and some guildies thought it was quite cool and mysterious find. Any ideas what the "logo" is :P ?

#2158914 PSA: I appreciate the help but......

Posted AKGeo on 06 February 2013 - 03:46 AM

Sorry but the people complaining about regular players coming along and killing their dodge machine are those who are simply bad at the game. I don't say that as a generalization often, but I will. They've played the game to their current level without dodging, expecting their party to keep them alive and likely cursing the game saying "this is broken!", and now are only logging in to do the dailies for their ascended gear thinking that's what they need to do in order to be up to date when it's "fixed".

That's my take on it. Because honestly, going way out of your way just to dodge an enemy or sit around waiting for NPCs to die is counter to the "efficiency" argument on all counts.
