Nov. 15th Patch: Breaking Point?

15 November 2012 - 11:51 PM

I've been trying to defend this game's pvp for some time now and after today, there's not much else I can do anymore.  I know there are people, like me, who were expecting this patch to address lots of issues plaguing pvp.  They have done very little to the pvp aspect of this game and frankly its the most important since they've publicly went out on a limb and stated that they want GW2 to be a competitive esport.

Paid tournaments will still be only 4 teams that are reliably winning and the class compositions will still remain the same.  Conquest mode is still the only option ergo the same bunkers/roamers comps will still exist.  I'm not going to turn this into a super long rant, but this patch was the deal breaker.  I'm not going to be wasting my time with this game any more if they can't take their own shit seriously.  Arenanet has such a piss poor way of communicating with their players and enough is enough.  The pvp community has been craving certain things and even in PvE there are plenty of things that need implementing.  Guild Halls and more guild functions for one, but they keep giving these one off events that don't really bring anything new other than a mini gear tier to grind for in an already grindy game.  There are very obvious quality of life improvements that need to be done and have been asked about ever since beta that have not made it into the game yet.

What a damn joke.

Why can't you mail items to yourself?

15 August 2012 - 01:31 PM

I've noticed through previous betas that you cannot mail items to yourself.  I don't know if this is intended or is just a bug.  Either way it's highly annoying.  Nothing worse than getting an awesome greatsword you can't use on your thief and not being able to give it to your guardian.  Does anyone know if this is how it's going to be or does ArenaNet plan on fixing this issue?

What the massive loss in subscribers means to Activision-Blizzard

03 August 2012 - 08:33 AM

http://www.forbes.co....achilles-heel/

The above link gives everyone a financial point of view on just what those millions lost means to ActiBLizzard. Spin it how you want; The game is still a success with so many subscribers or the decline just proves how bad it is - it makes no difference. That companies life source is basically 1 game, which generates an UNREAL gross profit of 80%. Keep in mind also that the upkeep costs they mentioned of $404mil and $241mil aren't exclusively server maintenance and bandwidth, etc.
(@ 1:07 is where you see the stuff about costs)

That's also from the customer support, forum moderators, developers, artists, etc. We already know that Blizzard has been laying off people to try to cut these losses

and it's only going to get worse.

Now the mantra for any die hard WoW lover is "Nothing will kill WoW. LOL @ Rift, Tera, TSW, SWTOR!!" or some variation thereof. The point is that the market is going towards the F2P/B2P model. The subscription costs have become barriers for MMO gamers and casual gamers looking to step in this genre. While I was playing WoW, I wouldn't stick with other MMOs because I was already commited into one and I didn't want to pay another subscription. I also had friends and work colleagues that wouldn't try WoW or other subscription based game just on the principle of buying the game and then continuing to pay for it. The F2P is what the market is demanding and the above games mentioned tried to cash in on the pie that has been virtually solely consumed by WoW. They tried to gamble for more profits and didn't really pan out. In SWTOR's case, it was a massive gamble that cost the company dearly.

League of Legends proved that F2P can be very successful and before people can give premature praise for GW2 for its business model and how it might change the genre, you really need to tip the hat to LoL. That was breakthrough for investors to wake up and see where we are headed. Just look at Aion after going F2P http://www.strategyi....g-free-to-play MoP will be a band-aid fix to this massive wound. SWTOR is going on sale for $15 and a free month, and then the complete transition to F2P this fall - presumably right around MoP releases. Before that you have the release of GW2, which is arguably the most anticipated MMO this year. MoP will not save WoW and investors realize this.

ActiBlizzard is in a uncomfortable position right now. You better believe that their marketing and head executives know that the market is demanding F2P, but like the Forbes article mentioned, you simply can't make WoW F2P when it is the pillar that supports you. They're going to hang on for dear life while they slowly bleed out.

TL;DR It's going to be a rough 3 months for ActiBlizzzard and they have underlying fundamental problems that will only get worse. Market is clearly headed towards F2P and new directions for gameplay.

Conditions way too powerful?

02 August 2012 - 11:15 PM

Just got done with the stress test and with my limited time in the game I still find conditions to be very powerful and IMO a little bit OP.  Some classes(Thief) have very few ways of getting rid of conditions and from my testing in BWE3 and this stress test, they just eat right through you.  I tried most classes during the BWE3 and 3 for the stress test.  And its constantly me taking on average 70% of my dmg taken to be from conditions.  Now for my guardian I specced into condition removal through traits and rune of the soldier, with shouts and I still got overwhelmed by how fast they can just reapply the conditions.  My thief... well we mainly have our Hide in Shadows but again, that 30sec CD is too much for how easily i can get stacks of bleeds on me.  On the flip side, using my engineer for condition dmg was very strong.  I didn't have much in the way for defense but that was intentional.  Again, the only trouble I got on him was from condition builds with no reliable way to shred them.

Maybe I'm missing something but so far they're the strongest thing to me as far as PvP goes.

Update size for August 2nd Stress Test?

02 August 2012 - 07:22 PM

Just got home to find that there is what appears to be a large update size for the stress test.  Just wondering if anyone could tell me the file size so I can judge when it will be over.  Wondering if I have time to do some things around the house or should I just wait it out.
