I use a cleric build in wvw. I play it a bit less since the condition meta and perplexity runes make life somewhat more difficult. Before that it was near unkillable. The only down side was the pretty low damage. But the mobility and defense is hard to beat. It may be that conditions and perplexity runes are adjusted in the patch tomorrow, so that may no longer be a concern.

I used to run around with a staff but now find it way too slow. Half the time my projectile is midair and the target is already down, ie the dolyaks. This means no points for me whatsoever. I now run with a GS mostly and am a happy with that.
For yaks and whatnot, use the weapon set in your other hand. The staff is still great for benefiting the group you are running with. Use the right tool for the right situation and you can be fine in any situation.
It's no mystery by now. GW2 caters to people like me who want to log in for an hour or two, accomplish something fun, then head out. I got my fill of mandatory groups, having to log in every day to keep up with your friends or be left behind for ever, and similar traditional MMO stuff long ago with EQ1, early DAoC etc.
But sure, there is a huge market who want traditional MMO's. A new WoW or EQ. No problem with that. Seems these guys are making one, and a new Everquest is i the works. Who knows, TESO might be the right one.
So the problem comes in when people want game type X, but play a game that is type Y, then whine about it not being more X. I like X. GW2 is X, so I am staying. If I wanted Y, I would leave for another game. It really is that simple.
People think the game ought to fit them. But no, find a game that fits you, rather than whining about a game that doesn't.
