In Topic: So what is with these CoF Elitist Mentality?

08 May 2013 - 11:21 PM

Just have to say how warm and happy I feel reading about what a welcoming, friendly and open community we have in Guild Wars 2!

Luckily I have usually been able to avoid joining your dungeon groups since you do put up enough red flags and warnings about having the right gear and experience. I'll go on helping people who need it and having fun playing the game.  Hope you continue to enjoy counting your virtual gold stacks.

Thanks so much for posting this!  I've been wondering about your build. You were nice enough to allow me to come along (on my war) even though I wasn't a noob and it was the fastest, easiest run I've done even compared to the 'elite', 'experienced only' groups.  And without the attitude that is prevalent in dungeons (especially Arah) so it was by far the most enjoyable too.

Now I'm off to do this run with my guardian.

In Topic: Client Crashes whole Computer - Hard Restart

30 April 2012 - 05:39 PM

My experience was my screen was freezing and then the computer would restart.  Would occur during a fight or when I was just standing there looking at my inventory, didn't matter- every 5-10 minutes. Finally gave up.

Have:
Window Vista 64 bit
6 GB RAM
i7 2.66 GHz
ATi Radeon 4870 1 GB X2.

But as it stands, I am disappointed in most of the content the shop provides that we know of so far. More than a little removed from Anet's original philosophy, it leaves a bad taste in my mouth and hesitant to plunge headfirst into this new world they have created.

How hesitant?, well it means I will be buying only one box to start with, rather than the extra guest account I usually buy for when friends come over and want to run around with me. So that's 1 less sale already. You will have to work mighty hard on making things I desire to make up for that to begin with. See what I've done there? I'm already planning an exit strategy to minimise the financial damage should the game veer towards ugliness.

Oh, and congratulations Anet on making your first triple A class ****-up of releasing info to the community. I've enjoyed you teasing all your info until now, its like we've been on a fabulous date, dining, dancing, flirting all the while. But now we're back at your place and you have just dropped your trousers to reveal a coin slot.... It's not that I don't like you, or that we cant come to some kind of arrangement, but for now, its just not going to happen.

Completely agree with this.  After years of anticipation, I was mulling over whether to get the digital deluxe Pre-Purchase or shell out for the CE edition. Now I'm debating whether it will be the regular Digital edition, or wait a few weeks after release if I buy it at all.

But it’s never OK for players to buy a game and not be able to enjoy what they paid for without additional purchases, and it’s never OK for players who spend money to have an unfair advantage over players who spend time.

It is really looking like some of these items are going to give players an advantage. So the question I have is, did they knowingly lie? Or did they just think it was okay because they didn't feel it was an UNFAIR advantage, just a 'boost'. Obviously noncash players can grind out gold for gems but there is no competing against the credit card swipe.

In gw1 MOST of those people you saw in obsidian armor bought the gold online

I think that's a bit high but it does kind of strengthen my suspicions about the poll. It took me 2 years to get enough ectos and shards for obsidian and I was rather proud of it. Didn't mean to equate school cheating with this game, just that attitude of taking shortcuts-guess I didn't do a very good job. This topic for me is like politics in that it's hard for us minority anti-cash folks to understand how people can support this, even if cash is used to buy stuff that does not affect gameplay- like obsidian armor. I'm waiting to see what is available to buy with gold and probably won't prepurchase if they don't show that by April 10th.
