You can watch youtube videos of just about every legendary weapon. The sword makes an annoying zapping sound everytime you swing and covers you in electricity. The dagger has flaming footsteps and flaming explosion on attack. The shortbow shoots homosexuality on each attack. The pistol is like a lazer pew pew sound.

All good reason to avoid legendaries for a Thief... no farming for me!

How does the Mystic Forge have no heart or soul, yet constant Raptor Farming for skill books was ok?
I don't know, was that ok? I sure never did that.

Or named green items on some minor named guy that has no lore written about him at all?
At least there was the name... and at least you didn't have to drag 12 doodads and 2,300 whatchermecallits into some slots.

I'm failing to see how the GW1 unique skins were dramatically different.
Why are you telling me this? I don't expect you to see that, nor did I ever claim they were.

The only difference I see is that instead of farming for things like lodestones to craft, you just farmed a specific named elite mob (with no story) until they finally dropped the loot you wanted.
I'm beginning to understand... You seem to believe I hold the GW1 system in some kind of high regard or something. Whatever gave you that idea? GW1 was an interesting game for its time, but not in regard to equipment. I have greater expectations of GW2 than I had of GW1. They were not met in this regard.

Sure there were a few weapons in the game that had backstory to it, but don't make it out like GW1 weapons were this amazingly rich tapestry of lore while GW2 are mindless skins.
I can only say that I never did any such thing.

The Mystic Forge is fine, because it's an easy central place they can sneak in new recipe's.  It's a lot better than sneaking in some new named mob in some remote are of the world and telling nobody about it.
That's fine for people who enjoy completing recipes I guess. I just have a hard time seeing anything epic or even interesting about it, and certainly nothing even close to earning the term 'legendary'.

Surely I can't be the only one who is a bit sad that the quest to obtain a legendary isn't even a little bit interesting? I bought this game believing I was going to get an RPG, not a saturday morning shopping simulator.

Mystic Forge is no different then crafting recipes.

People aren't talking about RNG from Mystic Forge, they are talking about recipes.

So you go farm 100 corrupted cores, 250 orichalcum, ectos, and then use mystic coins for a recipe that gives you the exact weapon you want everytime. How is that different then any other crafted or recipe item in any other game?

Would you be happier if you brought it to an NPC instead of a well in the ground? So dumb.
It would be nice if there was a RPG-type way to get nice equipment in an MMORPG. Maybe I'm oldfashioned that way. Accomplishing things, getting rewards for it, not some nonsense that all but requires the use of wiki because most of the ingredients don't even drop regularly enough to even begin experimentation. Gathering shopping lists is not my idea of fun, regardless of who takes the ingredients, be it my own crafting efforts, some NPC, or some stupid forge. Item acquisition should be more exciting than my weekly trip to the supermarket.

There is a middle ground between the easy to obtain exotics and the legendary weapons: named exotics from the mystic forge. Check this list: http://wiki.guildwar...rge/Other_Items
Oh yeah, the amazing "Mystic Forge".

I'm completely sick of hearing about the Mystic Forge. It's what this game revolves around. Want an interesting item? Try the Mystic Forge! Something wrong with the economy? Mystic Forge to the rescue! Something else screwed up with the game? Have no fear, there will be a new recipe with the next update... for the Mystic Forge!

Grind, grind, grind for the Mystic Forge. Toss your stuff into the Mystic Forge! All of it! Don't hold back, the Mystic Forge must be fed. Bow down to our new lord, the Mystic Forge.

What, they couldn't think of another way to introduce interesting items to the game? And while I'm at it, what the hell is so legendary about weapons created by dragging crap from all over the place into four slots? What's the legend behind those weapons? Who were the heroes that wielded them in days gone by? What fearsome creatures did they slay with them?

This damn game has no heart, no soul. It has is a number of uninteresting formulas, and hordes of people clogging up the isle in LA's Black Lion office, spending their days trying to get ridiculous amounts of lodestones or whateverthehell else the damn forge want them to feed it. It's pathetic, and I can't believe ANet is responsible for the abomination.

Indeed the thief must be OP and we're all playing it wrong.

It's the only explanation.
