#2219588 GW2 guru NOT one of the top ten sites for GW2 players?

Posted The Shadow on 15 July 2013 - 09:11 PM

I'm not surprised it's not top 10, even the official forums weren't mentioned, who wants to spend their time reading other's complaints when you could be enjoying the game and using resources to augment the experience.

Are you also mad if someone buys a TV one year after you cheaper than you did?
Lets start with bad analogies! ;D

#2219079 Sanctum Sprint and why the GW2 community is truly awesome

Posted Nuclear_Herring on 12 July 2013 - 11:05 PM

Something happened to me last night that I thought was sufficiently great to tell everyone about here on GW2Guru.

I was playing Sanctum Sprint, and due to a combination of truly awful lag (I'm in New Zealand, and my ping is horrendous) and my own inherent lack of skill I was solidly bringing up the rear of the group. My personal best was 7th and I'm not entirely sure how I even did that well.

Then the awesome thing happened. The group I was playing with had been reasonably consistent and so a couple of other sprinters started asking who hadn't got the achievement yet. As a result of this, those who had the achievement would wait at the finish line and /dance or /sit until a first-time winner came on through.

Eventually, I think I was the last person in the group without the achievement and the whole group followed along behind me. While I must admit I felt like the special kid who needs a crash helmet to play in the sandpit it was really cool for everyone to put their own needs aside so that someone else could get something out of the race.

I eventually finished in first place and got the achievement and title (which I'll be too embarrassed to ever wear) and to make the evening even better I got a windcatcher skin from the end chest.

To those who were there: You guys rock and I hope precursors drop for you in the near future.

tl;dr An entire group of players followed me through Sanctum Sprint to allow me to get the achievement despite me being rubbish. It made me feel all warm and fluffy inside.

#2219834 New AP reward system working great (in my opinion)

Posted ChuyDog08 on 16 July 2013 - 06:15 PM

In guild chat last night a request went out to help a fellow guild member clear an achivement off the "Nearly Completed" list.  They needed help with Sorrow's Embrace path 2 (hardest path in that dungeon). Quickly we had a group of five willing to help and get it completed ourselves.  After 2 hours, we succesfully completed the path.  Without the new AP rewards and AP panel view, this most likely would not have occured.

It was some of the most fun I have had in a while.  None of us had ever completed the path, nor looked up a video for help.  We just kept grinding and trying new things at each challange.  The sense of acomplishment was great when we finally cleared teh last boss. The team was made up of:

* 3 players who have played since startup and played many of the other dungeons
* 1 player that has played since startup and never tried a dungeon.
* 1 player that has only played for 2 months and have only tried COF part 1.

I thank Anet for "making" us challange ourselves by reminding us that we are close to certain acheivements.  I just wish we could stretch that panel (or scroll) and see the top 5 or 10 nearly completed items.

#2217859 Why I'm probably quitting the game after only a few weeks

Posted Saul Spotter on 09 July 2013 - 05:48 AM

Why post something like this?

I disliked my fair share of games but I didn't make a big deal of it.  When I decided WoW wasn't worth my time I just dropped out of it, and went on to other things.  I've yet to pick up Star Ocean: Til the End of Time since I bought it all those years ago.  The time and energy you put into writing this manifesto could've better been spent on a new PS3 game, like The Last of Us, that was a great game.

And then you chose to post it on Guild Wars 2 Guru, like you're Martin Luther or something.

What, seriously, do you hope to accomplish?  Validating your oppinion by finding other like minded individuals?  That fine, but again, you're chosing to do it on a fan forum.

Which means the only logical for your doing so is to try to poison the game for those of us who do enjoy it.  Which you can't really, but you do do kinda ruin Guild Wars 2 Guru.  Also, that's the technical definition of a troll so, you have to live with that.

In summary, sorry you didn't like the game, if you that dead set against it you really have no reason for posting here.

So can I politely ask you to leave and not come back?  Same goes for the other haters.

Quite a few bits of information seems to point towards that.

#2212405 Do you still play GW2, and why?

Posted Vindicare on 19 June 2013 - 08:28 PM

I still play. Mainly because A.Net has grabbed my balls tightly with the Daily Grind.
But what should a man do? I am OCD about Achievement Points and can't afford losing 15 of 'em per day (moreso after taking a 2-3 months break somewhere in-between).

Yes, you might have guessed it, there's more to it though (otherwise I might as well endure a similar torture in some other random MMO, righty righty right?)
  • Guild Wars is the online gaming franchise to me. Always has been. Ever since early 2004 at least.
  • I love this game and it's by far the best one out there. (Purely my opinion of arguable value, to be sure.)
  • Also it's the most compatible MMO for people who work full time and can't play 12 hours a day to stay competitive (yes, those are my Gem-bought Legendary weapons right in your face, just don't mind me!). Yes, of course "competitive" in GW2 translates into an e-peen contest of having the fanciest looking stuff. Don't you pretend not to enjoy dressing up your female character. We both know better.
  • I truly enjoy every aspect of this game: PvP, WvW and well... some PvE. I hate dungeons. And fractals... who would even voluntarily play stuff like this? It's about as much fun as a rectoscopy. Well of course if the Daily Grind, my relentless overlord and mistress, orders me to do so, I will obey (grudgingly). But otherwise? Srsly.
  • I see a rock solid future with many expansions for this game (even if A.Net and random veto-guy at NCsoft don't know it yet). See you all in Cantha 2018. I'll be the one dancing the "told ya so" dance in the ruins of Shing Jea Monastery.
So thanks for the iron grip on my balls, Daily.Net. I'd most definitely play GW2 far less without it. But on most days I end up not regretting the log-in at all.

[e] Also the pace at which A.Net currently dishes out content updates is just insane.

#2212243 Do you still play GW2, and why?

Posted Gumboots on 19 June 2013 - 03:48 AM

My partner and i have been playing pretty much every day since launch (and in every BWE), we each have 20 characters and spend most of our time leveling new ones or trying to make them all look prettier. I think the reason we still enjoy it is that it's just a really alt-friendly game, we really enjoy the starter areas and the variety when starting something new, the combat is engaging, there's no big gear grind, and the world is just a pleasure to be in.

There's also a visual aspect to it though, the animation quality and general art direction with the game really connect with the artist in me, the game just looks great. I certainly understand how many get bored with GW2, but the way it was designed really just works for us.

I can't play a lot because of work and having a life but I do enjoy this game a lot.

#2208942 Hall of Monuments Progress

Posted Mister Stygian on 03 June 2013 - 08:32 PM

I reinstalled about four days ago thinking of doing something similar to this, in my case advancing from 36 to 40 or 50, but I haven't actually played gw1 in over 4 years now and the areas I would need to advance are exclusively titles and weapons-both of which seem daunting in what appeared to be a deserted game enviroment.  I think I got all the easy titles back when I was playing and I only have a couple hundred gold/platinum?-though I do have about 40-50 minipets and tonics sitting around undedicated.... I would be surprised if there were still undedicated destroyer weapons out there and I don't want to be running that dungeon with henchman after I have sat out so long.   Anyway, I gave up on the idea after about 15 minutes of examination.

I've finally gotten Ioseph's armour to a stage that I'm happy with. Boring brown dyes (Chocolate and Midnight Fire), but I like my leathers to look leather, and my thieves to look understated. :D
The set is exotic karma stuff (PvP rugged) on the chest, legs and boots. I'm not a fan of how bulky the gloves and shoulders are, so I went with Leather gloves and Whispers shoulder(s).

Since I have the typical T3 human top + vigil set as my Thief's Zerker armor, and since it is so over done now, I decided to break away for her Valk set skin and go for a more covered Assassin type gangster look.  I really like the Vigil Pistol for these sets.

#2147118 January Content Update

Posted Gerroh on 21 January 2013 - 05:35 AM

Sooo, to recap this a little: They first burst out that the 2 updates together would have "an expansion's worth of content in traditional MMORPGs" and later on corrected it by saying that it does not actually contain anything at all that could even on first glace be mistaken for the content of an actual expansion: It will have no skills, traits, races, classes, areas, gameplay mechanics, or game modes. Instead it will feature some kind of slightly changed daily missions that will send you all across the world in order to complete already existing rewards, with new tokens and a matching vendor to incentivise.

I wonder what crappy traditional MMORPG they play at anet hq, it surely doesn't sell a whole lot of expansion packs. =)

You seem awfully certain of exactly what's coming for someone who doesn't actually know what's coming.
They said modifying the dailies is one of the things they're doing. There are also probably a lot of other things they are going to do that they haven't announced or even hinted at. I'm a bit disappointed by this, too, I was expecting maybe Tengu would become playable or we'd get some new dungeons and areas, but I'll save my final judgement for when it's actually released.
