They thought of the genre and implemented some amazing solutions, but they implemented them into a fairly bland game. I really hope the devs of the next big thing in the MMO genre look at GW2 and simply copy those solutions and put them into a game worthy of said solutions. The game is its worst enemy - you can see how amazingly good it can be and then you also see how other parts just aren't measuring up to that.

Well I'm a LOTRO player too, and already they have implemented stuff from GW2. Mob tagging, dailys, mithril coins used like gems.

Strangely I keep going back to LOTRO, because the PvE there is really good, and the story itself has so much more than what others think.

GW2 is fun, but no way as good as GW1, too diluted in new ideas it lost it's focus.

It's like making squash with the most delicious fruit you can think of. But once.you drink it you realize it's diluted and all you get is the hint of greatness.

Exactly, just silly and lazy they made it that way, only damage counts meaning warrior = best chance of the best loot and every other profession has a lower chance because of less damage...

Also, im sure others will disagree and I do admit I have zero proof and is completely speculation on my part, I think these "accidental restrictions" stories are complete and utter bullshit. Personally and again its just my opinion, I believe they put the "accidental loot restrictions" into the game intentionally but after seeing how noticable it was, with the rage coming from the community, Anet did what they seem to do best, back peddle and cover it up while making up some story to save face...

Im guessing they did not expect the restrictions to be as obvious as they were, also all the players who kept saying "your just getting bad rng" well that kind of shows that was utter rubbish in most cases.

Just a thought but I find it extremely hard to believe with Anets track history of diminishing returns, past restrictions and the ability they have of saying one thing but later going back on it....I find it extremely hard to believe they just "accidentily caused restrictions" that just accidentily effected the way loot / rewards were working and that just happend to be less than it was before....

Anet you are becoming masters at the new sport of back peddling bad design decisions while trying to make yourselves smell of roses.

Sorry if this sounds harsh but as said, I find it extremely hard to believe considering recent events from devolepment to launch to 6 months later...to say this was an accident or mistake made to the game build....sorry I do not buy it.

Thats another thing, some say it's all in people's heads but honestly, there seems to be a change in ecto rates when salvaging, its alot less of a chance then it used to be, how did "accidental restrictions" cause that? Have they investigated that by any chance?

Whole story just seems like a PR department trying to spin a bad business / design choice.

How come this is more or less what always happens to everything ArenaNet does?

They are not patching enough!

Complete level 60+ maps and sell the rewards you get on the trading post. Easiest money you'll ever make, in my opinion.

Then, do dungeons. Do about 3 dungeons a day. That's another gold right there excluding drops.

Maximise your crafting skill and then craft the best weapons/armours/whatever you can and sell them on the trading post.

Don't forget that the trading post takes a 15% cut when you sell stuff (this includes the listing fee which is 5% of the 15%).

When crafting, always use buy orders on the trading post rather than buying the materials from sellers.

Don't travel everywhere by using waypoints. If you can spend an extra 2 minutes walking to a place - do it.

Travel to major towns via the Mists. Do not use waypoints. Just press 'H', go to the PvP section, go to the mists, and then go to Lion's Arch. You can then travel to the major cities that way, rather than spending 3+ silver.

Gather everything. If you don't use it - sell it on the trading post. Each gathering node you pass is money just waiting to be picked up. When selling materials, do not fill in buy orders. Sell at the lowest price that they are currently being sold for.

The best way to make money is to save money. Reduce your expenditure immediately and you'll find that your money will go straight up. Honestly, I had about 6 silver on my main character when I finished the personal story and I was completely stuck. After doing some research, I did everything which I listed above and now I have about 9 gold just from playing the game and saving my money when I can.

I'm afraid arenanet is starting to take the diablo 3 approach, making everything cost so much and giving you so little income that your forced to use the gem store just to survive, starting to lose my faith in this game, I thought they would be different from blizzard v_v

And this is the first time I've ever seen something like this happen in a video game. Most developers don't care what names their users use.

GW1 would suspend you for an inappropriate name also. This is not new to GW1 vets.

As for people reporting names, I would guess that folks like parents who have youngsters playing are reporting names and/or offensive behavior. While my children do have an account to share, I have reported only one player for graphic sex talk in /m. I haven't seen any names yet that were in dire need of reporting. (I'm sure there are blatantly offensive, "I'm-so-cool-I-can-avoid-the-naming-filter" names out there. I just haven't run into them ... yet.)

Looks like Anet have penalised a whole bunch of accounts for various EULA violations so here's a thread to use to discuss this rather than the 4 or 5 of them that are running at the moment.  Please don't start any more!

If you're looking for information on what you might have done to warrant a ban, first of all check Anet's info page about this sort of thing:

The rules about exploits seem pretty clear, if you exploit then you risk being banned.  Apparently some people didn't think there was anything wrong with massively exploiting something like this and Anet, being the nice guys that they are are offering a one time only amnesty for people who got permbanned:

So, if you are one of the minority of astonishingly silly people who got permbanned for exploiting this, you can contact Anet support and have your permban reduced to 72 hours as long as you erase everything you gained from the exploit and never exploit anything again.

Looking forward to see who is dumb enough to exploit the next thing and get a non-reversible permban!

I'm sure the main reason for unique names is because otherwise whispering/guild invites/party invites/trade would be massively confusing and also scamming would be a big problem if people could duplicate names.

The only real "con" with forcing unique names is the fact that you have to think of a unique name.  You've just rephrased this same issue 3 times in your post.

I find you over reacting quite a bit.  Its not hard to come up with a name that no one else will use/take.  All it takes is a little creativity.  Those that don't have or want that, there are umpteen amounts of random name generators for that very thing!

All MMORPGs require unique names at some level, usually the server level, so there's always a chance you won't get a name you want.  At least in GW2 since you can uses spaces and multiple words you can augment a name you want to make it unique and still yours if necessary.  In most other MMORPGs if you can't get that single word name you want you have to stick extra characters on it or use accents that look silly (when used out of normal context).

Have backups ready, be ready to be creative...whatever.  It's a name on an avatar in a video game - it's not that big of a deal.

I don't see a problem.
