Lobby systems don't belong to MMOs. This is another case of someone wanting another WoW.

First of all - very good post, thank you.
I was recently wondering about all this myself. For me, even though the journey was always above the destination, I usually rushed to the max level in other games, to reach that power plateau. That's because in games like WoW, that's exactly when the "real game" (ie. dungeon grind) begins - everything before is just a lengthy tutorial.
I played Guild Wars since the very beginning (and loved it to bits) so I knew what to expect from Guild Wars 2. HOWEVER I was so conditioned by years of playing WoW (from 2007 to early 2011) that I had to constantly remind myself that the fun is there, I just have to reach for it. I know it sounds kind of silly but that's exactly how it was. It's not like I forced myself to find some activities fun (like levelling, DEs, hearts). It's rather a case of looking deep inside, rediscovering and reevaluating my expectations from a game and reminding myself that "the whole game is endgame", that I really don't need another WoW in my life as endgame it offered is actually tedious, boring and very skinner-box based which - frankly speaking - insults me as a player.
I have high hopes that ANet continues its best practices from Guild Wars and we will not see additional levels in the expansion, as well as no stat increases on items. Before you say it's not going to work, please see Guild Wars being still alive kicking after all these years.
Maybe it will sound bitter but I can't wait for all the so called "gamers" to jump to another hyped title and leave us alone. Pandas are closing in so here's hoping for it to happen.
