#2220447 [Looking Ahead Discussion] New Skills & Traits

Posted Zhaitan on 18 July 2013 - 04:55 PM

Are we again setting ourselves to see the repeat of Nightfall in GW2?

Adding New Skills and Traits over time is pretty much opening up to imbalance, power creep and also, alienating a section of the playerbase that enjoy playing the game few months at a time and then take a break to come back to play some more. With these changes, you will have to gather skillpoints to gain these. If I am not mistaken it will be done the way they did masteries in WvW. Talk about adding grind in gameplay.

Dear ANET, please make the game fun and challenging first. Some of us do not need new skills to WTFSTOMP all trash that you manage to throw at us. <lol>

If experience has taught us anything, is that this is going to be bad for the game: traits are barely working, we already have tons of them that are utterly useless and the skills are poorly balanced.
Having said that, ♥♥♥♥ YEAH NEW SKILLS!

I am one of the so called GW1 crowd. I don't think I ever complained about the present number of skills. What I felt weak in this game is the one answer to every problem - dodge. In GW1, there were multiple counters. In GW2, they removed many of those to simplify this game and to make it more appealing to general masses - For example, you don't need to be that perfect mesmer to PD a 1/2 second cast or interrupt a rez or coordinate your effort to spike down a target or manage your adrenaline for the right opportunity.

Many GW1 folks who complained about skills really meant the lack of variations in builds in GW2. Guild Wars really was Build Wars. Good or bad. It was what it was and it was pretty damn good for many of us. This game has absolutely no resemblance with it. Most classes go with 1 or 2 variations in their rotations and that's it. So, please don't pin this on GW1 crowd.

Not a worthy sucessor to GW1. not even close.

After enjoying, supporting an being a GW1 fan for around 6 years... Yes, I'm quite disappointed.
I'm still waiting for the next expansion though, maybe it will radically change things. Maybe.

I feel like A lot of people thought this game was going to be more than it is. It's a good game, but the hype was way too much.

#2165547 Is GW2 worth playing again?

Posted Baron von Scrufflebutt on 17 February 2013 - 07:42 PM

It seems that A.Net's main goal was to provide an MMO without a fee and I think they succeeded in achieving that goal.
If, on the other hand, one wants more than that, GW2 is lacking and that hasn't changed. So with that in mind, I don't see GW2 being worth it for you.

I don't understand this kinds of threads. Is it worth coming back? I don't know, since the games sub free why don't you just come back, spend some time in-game, do something different to what you did last time. Try and level Iron-Man mode using just white armor weapons, try an theorycraft a new build for your class.

The difference between endgame in Guild Wars 2 and games like WoW and Rift is that WoW and others deliver your end game on a shiny platter, "Here's a raid, there's cool shit in there like purples and stuff". Guild Wars 2 requires you to find your own endgame, Your an adventurer after all. I'm much happier randomly climbing the side of a waterfall to see if anything is up the top then i ever was sitting in Org waiting for raid time.

Just my 2 cents.

Sorry, my point wasnt really written well. What i was trying to say is, whats new in GW2. From what ive seen and read, nothing.

I see there is an upcomming patch soon, where they make a few changes, but nothing big. So whats the point in downloading and using your time on something that hasnt changed at all since you left it. Whats the point in getting back into a game, you left cos it lacked stuff, and still does.

#2148394 [Survey] Are you a PvE or PvP player?

Posted TheKillerAngel on 22 January 2013 - 06:54 PM

This is a repost of my survey on the official forums. I am trying to expand the audience and reach of this survey. You would help me greatly if you could get your fellow GW2 players on reddit or ingame to answer it as well.

I’d be interested in seeing some community statistics on who plays PvE and PvP.

To that effect, I have built a survey with kwiksurvey, which I hope you will answer. I’ll be publishing and keeping the results up to date. If you have polite suggestions as to how I can improve the survey, I would be interested in hearing them.

The survey, of course, more detailed than the binary PVE/PVP distinctions. Depending on the response, I may consider creating future ones asking people about why they play mostly PvE, PvP, which elements they like most/least, etc.

#2143441 How would you like ascended armor to be?

Posted Wifflebottom on 16 January 2013 - 03:33 AM

To the image that you posted Korra, there are already some armors in the game that look fairly similar and have the same level of elegance, though that elegance is pretty restricted to humanoid females. But in general some medium armor that doesn't make me look like a ninja or have a buttcape. Light armor that makes males look just as slutty as the female counterpart. Heavy armor with a cape.

true ascended
Now getting armor based off of the Human Gods would actually make me want to run god temples! And for Kormir armor you could run Fractals. Oh this is a good idea indeed.

#2129084 Senseless Boring

Posted Dimos Zargarda on 27 December 2012 - 11:23 AM

I feel you man, ive been playing GW1 for 5 years, but GW2 gets me bored so fast, as soon as I hit 80 I get the best gear, try out few dungeons and reroll.... only Necro and Engi missing at 80, wonder what il do after lol.

Anyway, the problem (for me atleast) are the weapon based skills, the thing that skills come with your weapons. In GW1 we were able to make our own builds, hell look at GW1 wiki, ul find over 1000 builds for EVERY class, thats not possible in GW2, hence why it makes it so boring. If you take 1 class, only 1 from GW1, it will have more skills than ALL classes put together from GW2.

I do love this game but I came here from such a great game like GW1, idk how they could make such a big mistake with not allowing us to make our own builds, it was THE one thing GW1 had that no other MMO I know of did.

#2130160 Looking For Groups is Seriously Lacking

This website has a nice alternative, the trick is to make the website famous so more people will use it.

No. The trick is for ArenaNet to realise that people want a better way to organise grouping and provide that means to them in-game.
