Just use the same build you would use with sword/horn.

So now they have become basically dumb manual-control CC'able turrets I cannot dismiss.
If I mis-drop one near the end of a fight, I'll be looking at a 60+25 sec cooldown instead of the original 60?

I thought Anet was supposed to buff spirits?

Assuming it survives, yeah.

This update pretty much rewards bad positioning of spirits.

It's simple really.

Do you want a pet or not?

If yes, go with Ranger.

If not, go with Thief.

Or hell, you can even go Thief + Mini Pet and still be a "Ranger."

^ Best advice on learning to melee on ranger. As said before, GS auto has evade at the end, and skill #4 is an on-demand block with decent damage.

I don't like the idea of separating Power Stab into a single skill because we already have Counterattack. Instead I think they should take out that evade and up the coefficient so it lives up to its name.

But I dunno, I feel the main problem is that the GS is currently living under sword's shadow as a power weapon. It needs something to distinguish itself from the sword. I can only think of the following:

1) Further improving Maul's damage. Maul's already pretty bursty, but this will make GS into a "hit slow but hard" weapon, while the sword can output sustained DPS.

2) Rework GS into a CC weapon. GS already has daze/stun and knockback/down, maybe change the vulnerability on Maul to Weakness?

3) Rework sword a condi weapon, a lovechild of warrior sword and thief sword. Chain has no gap-closers and inflicts conditions. Hornet Sting and Monarch Leap are swapped so the combo becomes "get in, do your shit, and GTF out" card. I'd say this is the controversial, or the worst suggestion because for those who love the current sword, it's pretty much "nerf sword so GS looks good," a la shortbow change.

Just food for thought. I'm hardly one to speak about balance.
