#2077877 Ascended Items

I felt this quote from the appropriately named "Wiser with Age" from the official forums too good to allow to go unremarked. For your reading pleasure:

1) It was the end gamers who were in Mad Group #1. They wanted a grinding / raiding system of gear progression, which was clearly not part of ArenaNet’s manifesto. Thus massive complaining ensued while the rest of the players rolled their eyes.

2) Now people who got into GW2 to escape the eternal gear progression treadmill are angry and have formed Mad Group #2. These were people who understood that Exotic gear pieces would be the cap for the near future (or longer) and only gear graphics would be ground for.

The issue is that Mad Group #1 is mostly comprised of the usual crowd that floats from MMO to MMO looking for the next big thing. They are often ex-WoW players and they throw their weight around to get MMO developers to change parts of their MMO’s core design to make the game closer to WoW. Inevitably these people in Mad Group #1 are still not satisfied with the MMO that they helped to warp, so they abandon it for the next big thing.

At the same time, Mad Group #2 is filled with people who were interested in that specific MMO due to the specific features that it was going to offer. In front of their very eyes, these players watch the devs disregard many of their MMO’s specific ideas and innovations as they attempt to appease Mad Group #1. This angers the loyal customers and helps to turn them into Mad Group #2.

MMO developers have been constantly repeating these mistakes over the past decade. Each MMO bends over backwards to try to cater to the fickle Mad Group #1 of floating players. To date, each MMO has failed to substancially woo them into staying. Then the developers have only their original “fanboy” players left, who no longer want anything to do with the MMO since it’s not what they initially paid for and also because they no longer trust the developers. This causes much of the Mad Group #2 to leave the MMO, which helps to finish the job of making that MMO implode. Wash, rinse, and repeat for infinity.

If you run dungeons from Anets own description, you will have to get this armor in order to get the infusions in order to progress.  This is not a case of just wanting the have a newer set of armor but a case of you must have this armor in order to do this dungeon and who knows how it will progress.

Also as others have tried to point out, just the fact that this new armor will have stats better then the exotics will make it a factor in places like wvw.  It also negates almost every other dungeon in game.  Why spend hours running those other dungeons when that armor is now obsolete?

Plus with the new armor coming (yes only jewelry coming at this time), it will cause those doing wvw to have to get the new armor in order to stay even with others in wvw.  Again causing more possible balance problems in an area of the game that already is suffering from them.

So since Anet has said for years that they didnt want to have a gear grind they not only start one but in there blog it is described in such a fashion that it even sounds like they had planned for this all along even while still mantaining the retoric that they didnt want and gear grind.  Way to go back on your words and manifesto.

As for others pointing out well other games have the gear grind in them also, yes they do and that is what made GW1 and GW2 unique, they did have it, at least until now.

I do not see anything positive coming from this announcement.  I dont think this will kill the game but it is the start of the game going in a direction that myself and many others do not want to see.  As for as my future with GW2, well the end is coming faster then I tought it would.  I played GW1 for years.  I have my doubts on making it until Christmas with GW2.

Once this is implemented and these items are required to gain max stats, making current level 80 exotic gear obsolete, I'm done.
Well done, ArenaNet. You just had to shoot yourself in the foot again, right?

Welcome to the real world. Everyone is an ass hole and only out for themselves. Even those that say they aren't, usually are. Only I don't hide it....

I have a shocking news for you! Really shocking, so prepare yourself...
That's not true!
OMG, shocking, isn't it?
And wait, there's more!
That's just the pathetic excuse you are telling yourself for being selfish (or an "asshole", to precisely quote your own words).
You probably had some bad experiences with others and you took the most naive route: making an arbitrary generalization.
I'll now let you contemplate the amazing implications opened by this short glance at the real world!

Blow it all out of proportion, call Anet evil and all that lol and then please move on please.  This type of attitude is exactly what infects gaming these days and why companies are screwed no matter what they try to do because someone some where is sure to be butt hurt about it and then they are EVIL JUST LIKE EA lol ..
It doesn't matter what anyone is posting on whatever forum. What matters is, how many of the people who were until now willing to spend real money on a game are going to do so again in the future. Call them butthurt, call them whiners, call them whatever you want, the only words of any importance are what's heard when "money talks".

#2040897 ArenaNet the next Blizzard?

Sorry but no.

"chance to to get", there is that word again.
I doubt its any better "chance" than it is to get them from regular chests.

#2038758 Guild Wars 2 Halloween Event Guide

Posted AlmarWinfield on 24 October 2012 - 01:07 AM

Guild Wars 2 Halloween Event Guide (Spoilers)

The Halloween Event of Guild Wars 2 starts in Lion's Arch (LA) and takes place in a few different areas of the world. There are quite a few things to do for the event but not all of these things are currently added into the game. At the current point in time only Part 1 is available which has you collect 6 different clues to combine together to create a book. Which will most likely be used in the future parts. You will need to gather Candy Corn, a mineable node throughout the world to fuel the Candy-Powered Matter Meter for this quest.

Before i go any further I want to say that if you want to see pictures for this guide you will need to use the initial posting on my website:

Candy Corn Farming Locations: http://www.almarsgui...ween/candycorn/

Pumpkin Carver Achievement/Title: http://www.almarsgui.../pumpkincarver/

However the entire text version will be here, I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you.

Step 1:

To get started you will want to speak to Magister Tassi who is located in central Lion's Arch in the Grand Piazza. Also known as the huge area where the what seems to be a bugged event takes place. It could get quite laggy in this area so be warned!

The First Clue: Serene The Ghost(Gate Hub Plaza)

Serene is standing right next to Magister Tassi who gives you the Candy-Powered Matter Meter which is used for every part of this quest. Use the Etheric Field next to Magister Tassi to expose Serene (but chances are someone already exposed her so just look around, someone might be standing on her). Talk to her once she is visible to collect the first clue.

Mad Memories I: Boyhood

The Second Clue: Samson, Thorn's boyhood friend

To reach this ghost you need to jump into the water off the southern dock near Trader's Forum (where I am on the map). From here swim through the sewage tunnel (Where the arrow is pointing on my map). When you reach the junction in the tunnel swim down below. Follow the tunnel until you reach the end almost directly under where the Trading Post is above. Use your Candy Matter Meter Aqueous Scan to uncover Samson. Speak to him to collect the next piece.

A picture of where Samson is on the map can be found on my website.

Mad Memories II: Friendship

The Third Clue: Tynna (Diverse Ledges Waypoint)

For this part you need to swim out into the water of Lion's Arch just southwest of Sanctum Hallows on the map. Once you reach Tynna's location use the Etheric Scan on the Candy-Powered Matter Meter to expose Tynna. Speak to her for the third clue.

Mad Memories III: Young Love

The Fourth Clue: (Queensdale) Shaemoor Waypoint

For this ghost you're going to be leaving Lion's Arch and traveling to Queensdale, just south of Divinity's Reach. The waypoint you'll want to pick is at the Village of Shaemor, Shaemoor Waypoint. From Shaemoor Waypoint you will want to run far east through the graveyard until you reach the northern most tomb at the far eastern end of the Graveyard. As seen in the picture on my website. Use the Gaseous Scan on the Candy-Powered Matter Meter to expose Prince Ewan Thorn and then speak to him for the clue.

Mad Memories IV: Deadly Adventures

The Fifth Clue: Kessex Hills - Delanian Waypoint

This clue is in the eastern end of Kessex Hills just north of Delanian Waypoint. It's just a short run north of the waypoint, just above the second "o" in Blackroot Cut. A picture of the location can be found below. To uncover the ghost here you will want to use the Candy-Powered Matter Meter: Corporeal Scan to uncover Lady Lyrica. Speak to her to receive the fifth clue.

Mad Memories V: Betrothed

The Sixth Clue: Gendarran Fields (Provern Shore Waypoint)

For this clue you need to port to Gendarran Fields, the Provern Shore Waypoint and head west from here. You'll find an entrance to the Provernic Crypt just south of the "Pr" in the word Provernic, I have a picture of it on my map below. Once inside the Crypt follow it all the way back until you reach the Heavy Door. Be careful of all the traps and dangerous things throughout this crypt. If you're not careful you can quickly die from the things in this cave.

This door is locked but in order to open it you need to put Boulders on the Pressure Plates to spawn a Champion Spider, kill her and then the door will open. Lord Humphrey Fallen is who you need to speak to for the clue, hug the right wall when you enter and he spawns around the corner. He can also spawn in other locations in the room so just watch where the train of people are going to find him. Also there is a Grand Chest inside this room that has loot similar to what the World Dragons have. Be sure to grab this!

To leave click on the Mysterious Rock which will port you back to the entrance of Provernic Crypt.

The Pressure Plate Puzzle:

Alright so there are a few different Boulders around this cave. Grab anyone that you come across because you will need it for the Pressure Plate if the door is not already open. The Pressure Plates are little plates on the ground as seen in the picture below. They can be found in a "Hidden", I use that word loosely, part of the cave off the southwestern end of the large room leading to the door which leads to Lord Humphrey. It may sound confusing at first but once you find the area leading to the Pressure Plates room it will be a cake walk from there.

After you collect all six of the clues return to Magister Tassi and turn them all into her. She will then mail you the completed book which can be finished via the next parts of the Halloween Event which are going to be added in as time goes on (a few days between each as far as I know).

#2029119 Halloween Skins from lottery / casino style grab bags

Posted Eon Lilu on 19 October 2012 - 09:28 AM

It is unregulated gambling.

Why is arena net going down this route of skins inside black lions chests? Why not make them part of rewards for event chains? Or scavenging? Or Jumping puzzle rewards? Or a zillion other ways instead of this creepy sales tactic way of ripping off your custormers?

In before anyone says “cosmetic choice newb” “nobody forcing you”

Its still cheap sales tactics and a lame way to do halloween items using casino lottery type grab bags with RNG luck dependent on whether you get what your looking for. Iv seen other MMO companies take there cash store down these roads before. It did not end well for players or for the company’s.

I posted this in GW2 forums but as usual its locked in about 10 seconds, or they move it or they delete it. Seems impossible nowadays to have any sort of discussion on GW2 official forums that doesn't agree with the almighty Anet...
