#1964032 Combat Mode 1.0 released. ArenaNet response included

Posted Sabbathius on 24 September 2012 - 04:14 PM

The question I want an answer to is - will this get me banned? :)

As much as I like the idea of it, but this is the kind of thing that could easily be seen as a breach. I'd love to see a very clear and unambiguous yes or no. Not a maybe, or open to interpretation.

#1954759 "There is no content"

Posted kKagari on 21 September 2012 - 09:08 AM

So there are people on this forum who say GW2 lacks content/is boring etc. Lets get the small one out of the way first. If you don't enjoy GW2, thats ok. If you are finding it boring, that's ok too. For all intensive discussion purposes, GW2 can be the worst game to ever exist, taking the crown from E.T.. That's ok.

But now, apparently, there is a lack of content. Remember, this is different to 'I don't find the content fun'. There is also the exclamations that there is no new content, when the game has neared the end of its first month.

So I ask you this first; what is your /age. How much did you pay for the game? I paid the full 60 USD. The last game I paid 60USD for which lasted me over 30 hours was Dark Souls. It took me 30 hours to complete the game for the first time, and considerably less on subsequent playthrus. I clocked about 90 hours total in the end.

At the time of writing this, I have spent 110 hours in GW2. None of which was in AFK. I considered all 110 hours of that time spent, fun. But fun, is beside the point in this topic, just to reiterate. What I find fun doesn't equate to what others find fun. But I'm completing content in the game, designed by the developers. My map completion is 31% and I've peppered some of that play time in with PvP and dungeon runs.

I paid 60USD for this. Not a cent more. Which other 60USD AAA game have you played recently that offered more than 30 hours of game time on your first play through. I say 30 because a skillful player, unaided by others, only doing PvE content, will probably have hit 80 and slayed the final boss. Why has it suddenly become expected of Arenanet to churn out new content like it is a subscription MMO?

Then there are those who say 'I'm going back to WoW' like it is a threat to Arenanet or the forum community. I don't care as much as the next guy. Why can't you play both games at once? Do you not have OTHER 60USD games installed on your computer? Does playing WoW delete those games from your hard drive?

TL;DR: This is a 60USD game, you can probably count with one hand how many other 60USD games that have constant content updates for free, with content that can last over 50hrs. Regardless of how fun you find this game or not, it is not lacking content.

#1948993 I guess that's why it doesn't have a subscription.

Open up your in-game map.

Crystal Desert.  Isles of Janthir.  Maguuma Wastes.  Ring of Fire.  Far Shiverpeaks.  Strait of Malchor.

These, and several others I can't name off the top of my head, are all zones that are currently not open and available to us, all zones that will most likely have level 80 content and dungeons as Arena.Net continues to expand upon the game through content updates.

Perhaps if you didn't try to devour everything in the game within a week of its launch, like you were some kind of starving locust swarm, you wouldn't be complaining now of having nothing to do.

Clearly patience is a virtue lost on today's bitter and angry little gaming generation.

What vendor and are you saying the vendor has every single piece?

I put this set together the other day but had to travel all over hell and back to get the pieces.
Highest lvl piece is helm at like lvl 28 I think.

the pieces are all over kessek hills. each karma vendor has 1 part. they are also obtainable with different runes in snowden drifts and you get this set in most every area from 15-40ish (lornar's pass as an example).

Here is a map of kessek vendors of the armor parts.

and here is an image of the crafted armors and what they're called. there are images floating around i compiled of all the other armors in large images by armor type (light medium heavy) most of the names are still the same and some are still not found like the tribal, which is now incorrectly named masquerade in the pvp locker, when there is a masquerade set that's crafted and isn't the same.

The profanity filter on/off in a game that does not condone swearing is total entrapment...nothing more or less.

Exactly.

Why have a profanity filter if you're just going to ban everyone for swearing? A profanity filter implies that you allow swearing.

You won't get an exact reason why you were banned so don't expect that, just use common sense.

In my opinion, if they can't provide a reason, then the ban is not valid. It's like being arrested, but not being told what you have done to warrent it. How can someone learn from their mistake - if one even exists - when they have no idea what they did wrong in the first place?

OK...so if I was not in game yet what could I have done!?

I look forward to your arse getting banned for no reason but I suspect you are the type that would just not mention it on here out of fear of how far the old foot fits down your gullet mate :)

They are actually blocking those people from being able to post who bring up the blocks and politely ask why or for what reason.

Fluke. Shit happens. Petition it and move on.

WTF do you think I am doing?
44 hours later nothing...I will get the reason when my 72 hour block is lifted and what good will that do?
I paid for early access and was prohibited due to their fuk up.

Banned for names thus far:

Scary Clown
Treehead
LOL
Morder
Vajrayogini

Just keep an eye on how many are being banned per hour here...

https://www.facebook.com/GuildWars2

It is out of control....a few people were like me and had not even played yet and were booted and blocked for inappropriate behaviour.
Thing is if people's accounts are being hacked they are given the same suspension message so everyone is lost.
I suspect my account was hacked somehow and there were simultaneous login attempts while creating my character but I am still waiting to hear back on my ticket.

I gather the system is automated to where if 3 people report you the system takes that as enough proof that there is an issue and just slaps a ban on you.
Issue is not the GM's making the calls but rather leaving those calls up to the idiots playing the game who turn the chat filter off and look for people to report for in-game chat and for names that are not even remotely offensive.
A player who had been banned for no reason decided to run a test with his guild mates.
4 of them reported vulgar language on one of their volunteered team mates to test the "automated" system to see if it was legit or not.
Sure enough 20 mins later he was suspended with no reason why.

@ Verranicus...you are not even worth chatting with as you are clueless other that enjoying to push some buttons.

Don't have a stupid, unfunny and potentially offensive names and you have nothing to fear.

And you feel it's your place to police everyone else?  Your judgement for "stupid" and so forth should set the bar?

I'm having trouble telling how many of you are really this self-absorbed and how many of you are just trolling.

I report any names I can get away with. I love imagining their angry faces when they get temp banned for being idiots.

This is exactly the antisocial griefing attitude the censor-defenders say that Anet wants to avoid with its policies, and it is exactly the type of self-righteous bullying attitude that such policies encourage.

Out of all my characters, one is the title of a book, one is the title and lead character of a movie, one is a historical figure, one is title of a poem by George Carlin.

All are so obscure I won't get banned and most are characters I had for 5+ years in GW1.

Players aren't making money from these trademarked names.  Telling a person named Zaxby that he can't make a character named that because there is a food chain named Zaxby's is about as stupid as police raiding the person's house because they have "Zaxby's Pub" printed on the coasters in their den.

Something is seriously wrong with our society's copyright and trademark law when someone can't play a game with the name Terminator or something like that.

I just heard an NPC weaponsmith say,
"No one can match my prices not even God.  I'm litterally killing the competition. I'm going to cover the market in bloody bargains."

Yet you can't create a character that references religion, violence, or blood probably.

Anet design a decent game with expected violence and adult situations and then decided to slap a giant G rating limit on all user-generated speech and content (names and chat).

How stupid!

I find this to be quite shocking tbh. I play on an RP-Server and all my characters have carefuly chosen names but I think this is the wrong course of action. Yes, the occasional "Dick McDoodlecock" might break the "immersion" but I'd rather have these people run around with silly names than polical correctness gone crazy.

Censorship is the devil. It cripples free expression and kills all forms of art at their roots. I am disgusted.

What I hate about their name policy is that we can basically report any name we don't like and we're sure to have a reason to pretend it should be banned.

These in particular:
Reference religious or historical figures.
Reference real-life people.
Reference names of copyrighted or trademarked characters, materials, or products.
Use misspellings or alternative spellings of names that violate any of the above rules.

Makes every single names available for report.

yes, I agree with this. the naming is too strict if you can't even use names you like that exist in real life. =/ if they are going to ban names such as my own, mira, idk. it seems a bit mean...and I don't understand it. my characters are quite important to me....why can't i give them names i like in real life?

--edit---

also...seeing people here makes me a bit anxious.....i might avoid people i don't know the first few days just in case.....

i also read on facebook that they've mostly banned people for the use of bad language in chat, which i hope is true.
