My favorite experience was the very minute of the official launch. I was in my guild's ventrilo server 2 hours before launch just getting pumped with my old G1 guildies, reminiscing about all the great times we had in GW1 and what we were looking forward to in GW2. I had the client downloaded from beta, and just was waiting for it to go live. When it dropped, I created all my characters and jumped in, with my heart racing and stomach fluttery.
I hope Anet realizes there needs to be a reasonable answer to this. I'm holding on to my extras (granted only have about 7 extras but that'll be increasing weekly) hoping that they come around on this. It's pretty apparent that they haven't fully thought out the entire Ascended thing.
I only have enough time to play one MMO hardcore at a time, so all I'm playing is GW2 with some GW1, but I'm not going to say GW2 is the best MMO currently. What I will say is that in 6 months to a year I think GW2 will be the best one -- there is a lot of content coming and reward systems being worked on, and beyond that there are some serious issues that need to be re-iterated (namely, combat and dungeons), but the groundwork and commitment is there.
So if someone wants to shelve GW2 for a bit and discover something else, now would be the time. If I had the time I might become interested in Neverwinter or TES Online, or kick the wheels of TOR or TSW free models.
