Seriously? If it breaks the game don't do it. It's really not that hard of a concept to grasp people.

#2132506 Korean Analysts Predict GW2 Expansion in 2013 Based on NCSoft Report

Posted Frozyyn on 31 December 2012 - 11:15 PM

This is kind of a "Duh" thing. With the way the business model works for GW2 (and GW1), they need to have a (paid) expansion.

Exciting news, none-the-less.

I heard a rumor that you single-handedly subdued twelve MI6 agents using only your left forearm. Confirm or deny?

#1841299 Chinese hacks confirmed - where are the authenticators/security concern?

Posted Netherscourge on 29 August 2012 - 03:18 PM

Lately, the #1 way hackers steal people's gaming accounts is by hacking into Gaming Fansites (which usually have really crappy security) and lifting unencrypted e-mail/password RIGHT OFF THE SITE'S DATABASE SERVER - IN SOME CASES, IT'S RIGHT IN PLAIN TEXT.

Once they get that, they try to log into ALL you accounts with the same e-mail/password combo.

So, if you are LAZY and you use the same e-mail/password for all your online accounts, chances are, all your accounts are compromised.

Best way to avoid this common hacking method is to have completely different passwords for every single e-mail/account/fansite/game that you log into on the internet. And your passwords themselves should have different letter cases and special characters and numbers in them to make Brute-Force attempts virtually impossible.

If you use the same password and e-mail for every log-in you have, then you will be comprmised. Guaranteed.

Only the top companies actually even encrypt account information to begin with. So even if they get hacked, at least your data is still sitting behind a very tough to crack encryption.

However, fansites usually live off of drive-by advertising and I can pretty much assure you that they don't store your data securely at all. These sites are where most hackers are getting people's information and then the hackers try the same log-in information against all your other online accounts. Not too mention that Fansite Employees can access your log-in details and there is really no credibility or background checking that you can rely on when it comes to fansites. You have no idea who can see your data or what their motives may be.

TL;DR - change all your passwords and make sure they are all different and unique and never use the same password for more than one online log-in account.

EXAMPLE: IF YOU LOG INTO THIS SITE WITH THE SAME PASSWORD YOU LOG INTO GUILD WARS 2, YOU BETTER CHANGE BOTH PASSWORDS TO SOMETHING DIFFERENT RIGHT NOW. AND IF YOU HAVE THE SAME PASSWORD FOR YOUR E-MAIL TOO, CHANGE THAT TO SOMETHING DIFFERENT TOO. AND NEVER USE THE SAME PASSWORD FOR ALL YOUR ACCOUNTS.

(I'm not accusing guildwarsguru2 of being shady - I'm just saying any good hacker using a SQL Injection attack can get through this site's security and how your data is stored on the Curse.com's servers is anyone's guess)

#1830515 Botters and Exploiters Caught

Posted sanenomore on 27 August 2012 - 11:22 PM

There is a group of "people" using an event in the Gendarran Fields to farm coin, exp and karma. These people are "botting" an event that spawns every 5 mins and insta-killing the mob that appears. Many people in my guild have been reporting them and watching to be sure they are in fact cheating.

I have taken screenshots and seen that people have been doing it non-stop since the headstart began. I hope to hell we see the ban hammer come out and kill this.

I hope people on other servers (we are on Northern Shiverpeaks) will do likewise. Report these individuals and stop the exploiters before they get out of hand.

#1795912 Do you think GW2 can survive?

Arenanet please let us know a few days before if you're going to make another stress test.

#1669149 This game needs serious optimization

You did read the disclaimer that said performance issues are to be expected during a stress test, right?

#1682153 GW2 success or failure.

Posted Mathemagician on 05 August 2012 - 06:35 PM

The hype for those two games were purely because of their franchises. The hype for this game is its design philosophy. Totally different.
