#2209092 What ist the highest d/d build for dungeons and fractals?

i was running 25/30/-/15/- and it was bad.  maybe im a sucky player, or a "baddie" as some [DnT] folks would consider but i mean it was not enjoyable.  i was dying from aoes, environmental dmg, dots, and i was avoiding 99% of all direct hits from bosses.  there are a lot of uncontrollable factors in higher level fractals that if you dont have the utility or the sheer defensive stats to compensate, you end up more useless to your team than the 20% extra dmg output from going full dmg spec.

It probably has nothing to do with you.  When you get to 30+ fractals your dps players are only as effective as your control players enable them to be.  If your reflects arent good, if your focus pulls suck, if your guardians dont use stability and ring of warding effectively (to name a few things) your dps players are going to be limited.  Without effective control, bursting down trash is much more difficult and encounters will be prolonged and the inevitable splash damage will occur.

So yeah, it probably isn't you as a Thief.

#2208452 Do you wish the current dungeon meta was more varied?

would you mind posting their stats?  or the one that comes to mind the most?

i think even you can admit that 961 T and 911 Vit is pretty low.  and are you saying they are full zerker gear or full zerker as in gear + traits?

and when i say traits, i mean 30 in power and 30 in crit.

i highly doubt they are.  as far as gear, aside from 3 emerald jewels in my earrings and back piece, i am full zerker.  so what are you saying?  im like 97% zerker geared - just not zerker traited.

i really dont appreciate that you automatically jumped to the conclusion that im a "baddie".   i was running 30 in power and 30 in crit with traits and full zerker gear.  i could not survive.

now im virtually full zerker with only 3 jewels not with the zerker stats.  i just traited for toughness and vitality.

many ppl on this forum says that they plays full zerker whatever and they just great on fotm 48. But in reallity yeah...thieves with bow all the time, warriors with rifle all the time or just dead.

What i really want from thieves on fotm are 2 things.
dps
burst.
Dps because it's just needed. I don't care what type of weapon you are using, probably sword / dagger, sword / pistol will be quite handy because of evade and cleave. Damage is needed on bloomhunger (becaus it's better to melee it), battleground (blind is very handy there), grawl last boss adds (aoe them down as fast as possible + burst on boss bubble), hammer time (plenty of mobs there, aoe them down), and dredge because of plenty mobs + stealth is handy there.

burst - kill some single unit/mob as fast as possible, probably best weapon setup is d/d there. girl event on shaman fotm (on 48 it's not that easy as may look), hammer time to burst down mob.

In theory full zerk in dps trait setup (something like 25/30 whatever) is best for this because it has best damage potential. Playing as this type of thief it's hard. One mistake, you are down, perfect dodging is essential, good use of evede moves, knowing enemies patterns and aggro management. It's a goal every thief should try to achieve but if it's too hard and you are dying way too much try less zerk build. After some time you will end up with zerk gear + traits, the better player you really are, less thougness, defensive traits etc you really need.

Hmmm....  maybe completing events should have better rewards than farming mobs?

Just a thought.

Ele update!  I had a lot of fun (probably too much) with this recent photo-shoot for my darling Castalia, showing off her newest armor combination with shots that capture her profession as well.  Anyway, here's the results:

Now to farm Arah for the next 10 months to get a full set of weapons for their matching glowy effect! Although I might just get the weapons I actually use (and torch, that torch is awesome).

#2205308 A Different Guild Problem

Posted El Duderino on 23 May 2013 - 02:42 AM

I haven't read much of the thread, but I read the OP, so excuse me if I repeat anything.

First, the #1 best thing I think any guild can do is to get voice communication - and make people use it. Don't be pushy, but badger them to get on. Of course, you have to make the voice com fun and compelling to want people to get on. This is pretty easy as long as people are personable and want to make friends.

Second, what is it your guild does and is good at? WvW, sPvP, dungeons, guild challenges, casual laid back? Define what your guild is and look for those kinds of people when you play. If you find someone that you have fun with, get them on the friends list and look them up when you get online. Invite them to do stuff. Invite them to the voice com before inviting them to the guild. Create a relationship.

Last, invite them and keep them. Make sure you stick to your principles. Weed out inactive players. Set up guild events. Engage them on a regular basis with the guild.

Some of this may be a lot of work and some of it may come naturally, but I don't think artificially enticing people to join a guild is the answer - making them want to be part of a community of friends is.

#2204930 Why play anything other than War, Guard, or Mesmer?

Dasryn I agree with some of what your saying but the underlying issue seems to be that the loot table for the entire game is unbalanced, and as a result, speed clearing/farming is the way majority of people make money in the game.

The lack of engaging high risk/high reward end game content that requires more than just dps is making the game the way it is.
You cannot fault people for trying to earn as much gold as possible with as little effort/time, after all unless you get really lucky or play the TP like a master broker, your going to have to grind.

You can look at balancing issues with certain classes and the entire content as a whole.

GW2 is for most people about earning gold to get their shiny outrageously priced precursors. Sure you can do COF1 grind with all rangers but it is inefficient.

I remember when they announced that GW2 would have no "roles" and that all classes would be equal to the task in any situation but that just isn't the case at all. Just think cause and effect.

True true, but he's saying that guardians, mesmers and warriors are not needed to finish everything. Yes, GW2 is seriously unbalanced in terms of profession skills, but not so unbalanced where any profession can get the job done.

You say that loot is a problem, yes it is. You say that people want cash as fast as possible, once again, true, but we are not talking about money here, we're talking about fun and playstyle.

Unfortunate that professions aren't balanced? Yes. Gamebreaking ? No.

What's gamebreaking is the awful living story stuff so far...

#2204267 Thief DAGGER/PISTOL (Not D/D, not S/P, not anything else) and Shortbow Build....

To add to that... I'd rather not be considered an authority. The same rules apply to everyone. Listen to what they say, try it out, think, and draw your own conclusions. Just like Soki said.

Ditto.  While I appreciate the vote of confidence, I do not consider myself an expert on thieves, so take whatever I say with a grain of salt.  Take it, examine it, test it, and if you like it, run with it...otherwise, try something different :) .

I dunno what you guys are talking about--I'm keeping my blue hat and fluffy feather. I've wanted to be a musketeer all my life! :P

Kidding aside, I'll echo Loperdos here by saying I like the Guru community best when it's all of us testing/trying/experimenting as a group. When we're all contributing toward the mutual goal of enhancing our experience playing the thief, I'm happy.

The amalgam typically serves better than isolation in most anything, and theorycrafting and building no less the case.

#2203906 Need some Advice (Playstyle+Experience, D/D in high fractals)

Hi rachmani, currently my thief has 961 toughness.  i know you specified around 1200 but lets say im pretty good with dodging and avoiding dmg, would 961 toughness be sufficient for higher fractals?  or is that too much one shot?

It might force you to use shortbow a bit more often, but thats it. Your margin for error becomes smaller, but if you don't get hit anyway, who cares. It all depend on how fast you learn and how good you react.
