In Topic: Skill Division: WvW and PvE

I kind of wish they wouldn't split skills between WvW and PvE. WvW is meant to be combining the fun of PvE with some elements of PvP. Moving into skill splits make the two that much farther apart. I'm well aware of imbalances between professions in some builds, but I'd say that makes the game more interesting. We don't need to be perfectly balanced to be able to win - the professions are close enough that skill will determine the winner.

I ran 10 in BM since launch until a couple days ago, when I switched from 30/20/10/0/10 to 10/20/10/0/30 to try it out. My ranger a bit less damage, but my pet is now incredibly powerful and my overall damage skyrocketed. I run cats and drakes now, instead of being required to keep bears everywhere to keep them alive. I wouldn't say a full BM build is for everyone, as it requires a fair amount more attention to the pet, but it can be pretty fun.

Pets are as bad as people say.

You can't just let a pet go. You have to actually pay attention to it, as it is a huge part of the class. Change your pets just as you change your weapons or utility skills to fit the situation. I play a ranger as my primary and am well on my way to a legendary. I am quite survivable, especially when I use bears to keep the heat off. My dps is at least on par with the thief and engineer I run with.

Quite honestly, many people are simply concerned with 'min-maxing' and while Rangers simply can't keep up with the damage output of say, a Warrior... that doesn't make them entirely useless.
In Topic: condition dmg vs critical

If you specifically want bows, shortbow generally should have con damage while longbow should have crits. I'm not sure what you're saying about crit chance from flanking. Flanking only affects shortbow #1 skill and the 25 point trait in skirmishing.
I run primarily longbow, with about 2/3 crit chance. Con damage I get is low, mostly for my sword/torch secondary set. If you post your build, I'll see what we can do with it.

Gosh the things one learns about oneself. Guild Wars 1 player with 50/50 in HoM and GWAMM here and I thought I was liking this game. ^^ Guess I was wrong. /sarcasm
