It really doesn't sound that bad to be honest and it makes sense. You could get full exotics the moment you hit lvl 80 just by crafting them or getting them from the trading post or if you wanted to do dungeons for it you'd be finished with a set in less than a week. In comparison, getting a legendary, for most people it will take months and even the most hardcore needed a few good weeks. As you can see, there's a HUGE difference going from exotics to legendaries so they wanted to close that gap by introducing ascendant gear. They clearly said that and also mentioned specifically the fact that they're not going to create a treadmill, these will always be the set levels of gear.

So now the gear system looks more like this:
exotics: 1-7 days to get them all
ascendant: 1-x weeks
legendary: several months

In addition to that, you need to keep in mind that the population that's active on the forums is only a small percentage of the actual population that plays the game. While many people were complaining about this, many of which didn't even know or understood the full story, a large number were happy playing the game.

I actually never recognized the concept of a main. People talk a lot about main in MMO's, but it never really worked for me. I don't stick to a specific character, I love them all, and I switch them around.

Warrior is more simplistic to play, since they are very straight forward. I played both Warrior and Thief a lot during all of beta and I must say that Thief has a bit more about using your brain. Warriors can currently just slash away and will most likely get out as the winner, while Thief has to make sure he does the right moves at the right time to take the Warrior down.

I personally decided to go Warrior in PvE and Thief in PvP. Mostly because it fits well with the synergy of my friends choices.

I thought a video is more useful than words so I uploaded 40 mins of my lvl 20 melee thief in kessex hills/brisban wildlands. I play d/d with caltrops to stack a helluva lot of bleeds on groups and HS to finish them off I try to engage higher level mobs only.

There's a lvl 24 champion fight in there, some lvl 22 veteran ettins and various other lvl 22-23-24 mobs.

I've been torn between guardian, elementalist and engineer for some time now as I really enjoy their versatility. I think I have it set on guardian now, but I know that tomorrow it'll change again, and the day after, and on and on...

I'll just play all three for a while I guess until I finally decide. Thankfully there's no pressure at all in this game to level quickly; in fact if anything the game mechanics encourage you to take your time and just 'adventure', something I haven't really done in an MMO since FFXI.
