It really doesn't sound that bad to be honest and it makes sense. You could get full exotics the moment you hit lvl 80 just by crafting them or getting them from the trading post or if you wanted to do dungeons for it you'd be finished with a set in less than a week. In comparison, getting a legendary, for most people it will take months and even the most hardcore needed a few good weeks. As you can see, there's a HUGE difference going from exotics to legendaries so they wanted to close that gap by introducing ascendant gear. They clearly said that and also mentioned specifically the fact that they're not going to create a treadmill, these will always be the set levels of gear.

So now the gear system looks more like this:
exotics: 1-7 days to get them all
ascendant: 1-x weeks
legendary: several months

In addition to that, you need to keep in mind that the population that's active on the forums is only a small percentage of the actual population that plays the game. While many people were complaining about this, many of which didn't even know or understood the full story, a large number were happy playing the game.

I can't believe people get so worked up over a newly released game? It's just a game it's not like it's the lottery or wealth or gain. I do my job that's what I'm paid for not to sit there and worry about if I'll get in to play Guild Wars 2 right off the bat or daydream and steal money from my boss/company because of a game I want to play is coming out. This NOW generation needs to get their priorities straight. Back in my day you'd get fired for daydreaming on the job!

I own a business, had a job years ago after i graduated college. And what is this NOW generation you speak of? It seems to me, you are referring to yourself. I'm gonna guess but most of us here are mid 20s and way older even, you are talking to the people that experienced the glory of NES, SNES, GB, PS and the likes. Back in the day, we were so excited when someone discovered a secret warp in mario and we couldnt wait to get home and play to check it out. It's the same as this, we are not worked up over a newly released game. We are excited to play a game we love, plain and simple. Playing games is our wealth, same as our family, our friends. You wouldnt know that feeling because you're not a gamer, you're just someone who plays games.

wasd (strafe left/right, not turn)

shift = dodge

12345 = standard

Q = heal

E = elite

Mousebutton4+1/2/3 = 7/8/9

Mousebutton5+1/2/3/4 = f1/f2/f3/f4

#1768695 Will there be love for the guildless in WvWvW?

As the title reads, is there enough of a "solo-presence" in WvWvW?  Meaning, guildless (or small guilded-non alliance'd) players running around, possibly following the zerg?  Or is the only way to get any sort of enjoyment out of WvWvW to be in a large guild(100+) and zerg around?

I plan on starting out with GW2 playing on my own, no guild.  I'd partake in WvWvW every once in a while, probably more often than not at max level.  Is there any love in WvWvW for guildless players?  Or does everyone look at them(and look down at them) and say "what a noob, don't even bother rezzing him...hes not part of a guild/allience?"

Hopefully down the road I'll find a guild to call home.

Often when I see a person around that seems to be alone and we are under 5 people in our party, I ask them if they would like to party and help out with objectives.  I find that a group of 5 can be highly competitive and succeed with objectives.  It's also a ton of fun taking things on as a group of that size.  I prefer it to zergs.

Guardian Tomes
Guardian staff - empower

Guardian Tomes haven't locked you in place for a while. They changed that.

*raises hand*

I actually never recognized the concept of a main. People talk a lot about main in MMO's, but it never really worked for me. I don't stick to a specific character, I love them all, and I switch them around.

#1737428 Creating a Warrior vs. Thief

Posted Xaragoth on 15 August 2012 - 01:58 PM

Warrior is more simplistic to play, since they are very straight forward. I played both Warrior and Thief a lot during all of beta and I must say that Thief has a bit more about using your brain. Warriors can currently just slash away and will most likely get out as the winner, while Thief has to make sure he does the right moves at the right time to take the Warrior down.

I personally decided to go Warrior in PvE and Thief in PvP. Mostly because it fits well with the synergy of my friends choices.

since im not making an asura or charr
i will exhaust the content of the starter zone
of whatever race i am playing
then move on to the next zone for my level
but if i feel i am not adequately leveled
i will visit the asura and charr starters
to gain the needed additional levels
of course i will visit all racial starters eventually
in order to get the extra skill points

I thought you had written a poem for a second then, then was disappointed :P

#1713101 Having trouble with melee thief [in PVE]

Posted Cl1p on 11 August 2012 - 04:14 PM

I thought a video is more useful than words so I uploaded 40 mins of my lvl 20 melee thief in kessex hills/brisban wildlands. I play d/d with caltrops to stack a helluva lot of bleeds on groups and HS to finish them off :) I try to engage higher level mobs only.

There's a lvl 24 champion fight in there, some lvl 22 veteran ettins and various other lvl 22-23-24 mobs.

There are some highlight timestamps in the description.

On this topic, anyone found a good way to utilize F skills without causing finger injury?  F1-4 keys just aren't reachable.

I use a razed naga, but after doing normal skills 1-5, heal 6, utility 7-9, elite 0, you only get two more buttons for the 4 F skills. Help my hands!

My key bindings are actually a bit more complex as I shifted movement keys around, but here is what I'd do in your case.
1. put f1-4 on 1-4
2. switch razor naga to Num (there is a switch at the bottom of the razer naga.
3. put the old 1-4 on NUM1-4.

I just use the same keys as for the utility skills, but with shift pressed.

#1696792 I *still* can't figure out what class to start with.

Posted Alberel on 08 August 2012 - 08:50 PM

I've been torn between guardian, elementalist and engineer for some time now as I really enjoy their versatility. I think I have it set on guardian now, but I know that tomorrow it'll change again, and the day after, and on and on...

I'll just play all three for a while I guess until I finally decide. Thankfully there's no pressure at all in this game to level quickly; in fact if anything the game mechanics encourage you to take your time and just 'adventure', something I haven't really done in an MMO since FFXI.
