You'll have to forgive the crudeness of my image, but it was something I did for myself and only decided to share with the community afterwards.
So I tried to explain the numbers but feel free to ask questions. I got the attack speeds of LB 1.25 sec/shot and SB .75 sec/shot from an earlier discussion we had. Whoever made the post, feel free to claim your credit. The damage numbers are pulled from the GW2 Guru Database. Because I calculated damage free of reduction from armor, modifiers from crit, sigils, or flanking, this really serves more as a digestion and regurgitation of what each weapon is capable of in a vacuum.
I made this chart to only look at the weapons from 2 angles. Opportunities to crit, which is good for on crit sigil builds and flat damage done. Any other discussion can be brought up by the community and we can use my figures as a jumping-off point for adding in conditions, flanking, and sigils.
The big surprise here, if you activate rapid fire on cooldown, the longbow actually has more chances to crit than the shortbow in a 20 sec period. For those of us who don't want to depend on flanking to apply conditions or were going to use the shortbow's rate of fire to proc sigils, this is a pretty big deal. It means the longbow, at it's best, inside a vacuum, actually functions a tad better for this along with bringing some interesting utility.
As much as I hate to admit this, I have to get going out the door. I apologize for the informality of this post. Had I had more time, I would have produced a much more polished product, but I wanted to get this out there in order to give you guys something to think about. I hope it helps and generates some good discussion.
Have at it.
