#2050140 Why people get bored of new mmorpgs

Posted jirayasan on 29 October 2012 - 11:56 AM

It's like this every time a new mmorpg is released.

- Everyone hypes the game. A few are haters and bash it.
- Hardcore players play it for a month and then quit and wait for a new mmorpg to release.
- Players expect a game will stay fun for eternity.
- Players expect a new game will be like heaven that opens up in the sky and washes all your sins and all the darkness away from this world.

The problem isn't the game itself, it's the player. You don't have to play the same game every day for 5 years. If you do the same thing over and over you will eventually get bored by it.

Don't blame the game, blame yourself.

#2030854 Boss hunting is back! next patch(es)

Posted Red_Falcon on 20 October 2012 - 03:38 AM

They said that good loots from champs/dungeons/raid bosses are way too low right now and hopefully by next patch (or the one after that) we should get better loots.

Not sure about you guys but this is great news for me! :D
I loved boss hunting in GW1. It was both challenging and rewarding.
I probably invested 1000 hours just doing that!

Finally a reason to kill those champs and dungeons actually profitable (hopefully the difficulty will go up a bit tho).

#2010633 Seriously, how are people making money?

Posted dazza64 on 11 October 2012 - 09:53 AM

The game hasn't even been out for 7 weeks yet and already people are complaining that they don't have everything unlocked or that they don't have a 1000g coins yet. If you want it that badly then go pay some RMT thousands of Dollers/Euros or what every to become rich quick. If not go play CoD and you can be 1337 in hours.

#2016613 gw 2 is... alive again?

Posted Alaroxr on 13 October 2012 - 10:17 PM

Yesterday was Friday. Meaning, everyone who likes WvW queued. Therefore, you get an accurate representation of the population.

Normally people are split between playing at different times of day, and some doing PvE/PvP/WvW. On the shuffle day, you focus that community into one activity, at one time.

It never died.

They are (hopefully) in the process of adding a tool for players to link their GW1 and GW2 accounts after they already created their GW2 account. Can't use the HoM calculator and can't log into GW1 so that could be the reason.

I really hope they add the linking tool by tomorrow =/

Yes i hope too i want my fire dragon sword O.o

#1784146 Targeting and model "blocking"?

All ranged skills in this game are treated as projectiles and will collide with the first thing they touch, target or not.

#1782758 And your favorite dance is?

Posted TeirV on 22 August 2012 - 02:58 AM

Someone made a dance video with Psy's Gangnam style as the music. Pretty awesome.

I don't think ArenaNet is prepared for the shear amount of players about to flood the servers, from what I can tell its already sold more then a million preorders, thats 5 times more players then WoW had when it was first released, It broke the sound barrier on everyones expectations and ArenaNet is going to be in for quite a shock, I wouldn't be surprised to see every single server right full and a lot of people unable to play without a server to go to.

Heres hoping for the best.

Not sure how you come to this conclusion but imo i think Anet would know best. Anet has the sales info/numbers for Pre purchase's,pre orders and the numbers for how many people have been logging in for every test or beta. You honestly think with having the inside information that no one other then Anet has, they wouldn't have a good grip on things? really?

Going to save judgement until I actually get to the end-game. Everyone should also do the same. Don't be foolish to speculate on things you haven't actually done yourselves yet (@ critics)

Wouldn't Caithe be 25 seeing as she's a firstborn? They all 'hatched' in the same year, 25 years ago.

Agree 100%

I can't even begin to recount how many times in old school AV where we (Horde) would be stuck at the bridge before the Alliance's keep, and this is exactly what happened. But when I popped all of my defensive cooldowns and charged right in, dropping fears and AoE, my allies would come charging right after me and we'd break the enemies lines.

A coordinated offensive movement forward is very often the key to winning those huge zerg vs zerg stand-offs.

#1748668 "Fear Not This Night"

Posted TKTindelible on 16 August 2012 - 10:46 PM

Personally, I think it sounds awful ;s

The original piece was brilliant, and the piano version is always on my playlist.

This sounds like under-produced tripe. The vocalist sounds like an "every other" generic female singer. The lyrics are pure cheese, without any consistency or depth. The composition does not support a vocal component, at least not using the main progression. It feels very much like the vocals were tacked on, rather than being part of the actual music.

Perhaps the full song will change my mind, but so far I am direly unimpressed.

#1746527 GW2's story: Really weak.

Your opinion is based on flawed logic.

Think about what you are using as examples. Your are comparing the lore behind massive franchises that have had decades of time to build the story.

I won't touch FFXI as I'm not familiar with the title. Other than to point out the obvious, which is that it is the eleventh game in a series started in 1987. That is 25 years.

With WoW You are looking at the lore for a game world that has to date been developed by 4 released titles, one unreleased title, 5 different expansions on those titles, with one more expac on the way. All of this has been going on since 1994, that is 18-19 years of development. In addition to numerous novels, comic books, short stories, etc.

Star Wars has been building its lore since 1977. That is 35 years of storytelling across the width and breadth of the mass media.

Lets look at GW history. Launched in 2005 - 7 years ago . . . ONE title, with 3 expacs, and another title on the way. Two novels, and a few short stories . . .hrm bit less volume there.

It's as though it takes time and events to build a compelling story or something.

Now sure, various aspects of each franchise may have focused on self contained stories or characters from different aspects of their worlds, but the sheer volume and time of these titles give each of these realities greater weight. If the GW reality endures, 20-30 years from now there will probably be some addled person arguing that the latest modern fantasy game's lore just pales compared to GW.

Lastly as many posters have pointed out, you have no farking clue what the GW2 story is because you haven't played it. You also haven't had any of your friends play it and tell you about it. You are operating from a near total lack of knowledge. So of course you posted on the internet.

To use a Lord of the Rings analogy, Frodo and the Hobbits just got to Rivendell and you are acting like the story is over . . .
