Convince me to play ranger please

Ok, I have a challenge for you. I'm trying to decide between my favourite two professions, ranger and mesmer, on which to make my main. I want to focus on one but can't choose. Please use any argument or angle possible to convince me to play ranger. I am asking the same question in the mesmer section and look forward to answers in both. Thanks.

Profession popularity estimates?

Anyone wanna venture a guess/opinion as to what the most/least popular classes are. Include if you want, differences between pve, spvp, and wvw.

I cant seem to use the elementalist skill cleansing wave no matter what I try... Is this a bug or what?






Edit :   After killing some foes it said unlocked and is now usable, even though it already said unlocked before.....

Any recent profession popularity stats?

I was hoping someone might be able to direct me to a somewhat recent poll or source of info on profession popularity/prevalence, since I find it interesting, and know many others do as well.
