In Topic: State of WvW vs Camelot Unchained

Well, it is cool to see GW2 finally fix culling, add progression for WvWvW. I thought the game would be a RvR clone + some raiding of some sort from launch. Can't say I am disappointed but feel like that is the direction the game should have gone. The living story / guild challenges is interesting but not really what I was looking for.

The WvWvW doesn't play like DAoC RvR though. No kill+location feed, no interesting wvwvw(rvr) progression abilities, no relics, no tri realm dungeon (Darkness Falls) to fight for, no feasible way to fight greater numbers as a smaller force.

Camelot Unchained seems interesting. I noticed that Mark Jacobs has changed his stance on some things he stated about how the game would be designed. It is wait and see. TESO pvp looks like GW2 PvP. I may keep an eye out for TESO as well.

For now, I play PS2 with my buds and WoW here and there.

Anet is looking for ways to discourage zergs? But if i take 5 guys into 50 in the best scenario i can only hit 25 while the other 25 own us. Why does this AoE cap exist? It obviously is beneficial to larger groups much like culling. So, does it exist only for Anets benefit for less server stress?
To me this AoE cap is the most detrimental thing to skilled small teams which in other games could roll larger numbers. I would like to see it increased at least in WvW.
Please comment and discuss

It is interesting to see how far along this game and it's community has come on the AoE cap. I remember when me and my friends played this game at launch, they questioned why the AoE cap. I had to explain to them that it was to make AoE not overpowered against zergs. They countered with more reasons for zergs to win.

Well, all Ima say is. In war, if a cauldron of burning oil spilled on 30 foot soldiers. Do you really think only 5 would get hit?...

A bit silly. If you don't want to be defeated by powerful, uncapped AoE ... practice situational awareness a bit more? That concept though, it eludes the avg gamer.

The thing that I dislike about the game already is a bit of how disconnected Mark Jacobs still is from what made DAoC a great game. He is wanting to implement all these hippy ideas (similar to GW 2) that most players don't really give a crap about. Sandbox RvR? Yay, you burned my house down! Good for you. Crafting for the good of the realm, well isn't that the way it supposed to have been?...

I believe he also stated earlier there would be no Realm Ability System. I could have sworn that he was against AoE CC in his initial blog posts but now is easing up to it. He realizes that for one 'one of the best things that made DAoC good was that 8 players could fight the zerg) and two 'you have to balance the zerg in some way'.

This game is really wait and see. Can't say I care that there is no PvE. I wonder what the classes will be like.

1stPlanetside 2 -> 2nd WoW/GW2

Up and comers? TESO <---not really crazy about, wait and see like GW2 atm.

Mod Note: If you want to discuss GW2, please do so in Tyrian Assembly. This is not the place for it.

The abilities/passives are actually pretty interesting.

I wonder when they'll put back the Orb of Power.
