Brainstorming: new mechanics
31 December 2012 - 07:27 PM
In the topic about class balance philosophies, one of the things that came up was the notion that something needs to be done to increase the depth, complexity, and longevity of the system. Two ideas that is often fronted are reintroducing secondary professions to the game and adding new weapons. I'm not keen on secondary professions in GW2 and I think that new weapons are low-hanging fruit. I wanted to start a thread for brainstorming other ideas that could serve a similar purpose. Here are a few of the ideas that I came up with.
Finding Different Stat Arrangements
15 September 2012 - 08:26 PM
Top tier equipment boosts three different stats: one is primary and receives a bigger boost; two are secondary and receive slightly smaller boosts. This results in hundreds of possible arrangements. Between crafting and dungeon-token vendors, I've seen a dozen or so arrangements, which leaves a lot more to be discovered. I seem to recall that we were supposed to be able to buy other possible arrangements with karma or with badges of honour. I've not been able to find those vendors yet, though.
So generally, are many more of those hundreds of arrangements covered by vendors that I haven't discovered yet?
And specifically, if I'd like armour with either vitality or toughness as primary and power and healing power as secondary, does anybody know whether or not such a thing exists and, if so, where I can find it?

What are the coins called?
03 August 2012 - 01:56 PM
Maybe I'm alone in this but I find the generic "copper, silver, gold" naming convention to be really boring. Do any of the lore wizards out there know of what different societies in the GW world call their currencies? We know that the same currency is used everywhere - so I'm just going to assume it's the human coinage.
Historically, coins have been named under a variety of conventions. A few examples: weight (shekel), imprint (krone), issuer (florin), and material (guilder.)
If the coins aren't already named, what should we name them? One quick suggestion that comes to mind would be Crabs, Stags, and Gulls - thematically linked but visually distinct imprints that allows us to keep the C, S, G abbreviations for continuity with people not using the convention.

Paradox: WvW more fun when losing
23 July 2012 - 05:27 PM
Oddly enough, I had a lot more fun in WvW when my world was losing. When I logged in on Friday evening, Maguuma was dominating. It seemed like everybody else had things well in hand. I also didn't really feel like brutalizing a couple of worlds that were down to their last few nodes.
On the other hand, Crystal Desert and Isle of Janthir were dominating us on Sunday. In that situation, I was motivated to help out, small contributions felt like they had an impact, and every valiant effort seemed like it was appreciated.
