#1841983 The great big "Oh dear I got banned" thread

60 pages of people griping at each other and/or making stuff up.

It's simple ... thousands of us have not been banned because not getting banned is simple and easy to do.

The errors lies with those that made the mistake(s) that got their selves banned. It's like people that complain about speeding tickets taking their money, "wasting their time", etc. ... simple solution: don't speed. Similarly, follow the rules. If you're too ignorant to find out what the rules are, that is no one else's problem but your own, especially when you get punished ... and, honestly, many of us who haven't been banned never read the rules ... being a simple, good human being keeps you from getting banned.

There are just enough people who have gotten banned and that same type of people are the same type that "make a lot of noise".

I think we can argue or mainly whine and cry about the rules you choose to accept at the start of the game but it wont change. A lot of the people playing the game are not negatively impacted by their rules, so there is no real reason to change them to suit the needs of a few bad apples.

For years, people have said that MMO communities are shit and for the first time, a company has decided to do something about it. One of the benefits of not having a sub base game is that a company does not have to shape its rules to protect their subs, the community HAS to shape itself around the game's rules.

So I say kudos to Arenanet for sticking to their guns and hopefully the community overrall will shape up around that spirit.

Admittedly the no famous names is a little heavy handed BUT since I put a some thought into my character names circa 2010, it doesnt affect me.

The tears of the trolls are lowing like the Amazon. This is just the best thing Anet has done in all of GW2. I feel bad for the people who have been hacked but man the trolls getting thrown out on their asses is just amazing. I just hope Anet sticks to their guns and does all they can to help shape this into a respectful fun to play in community!

I love watching people who've been banned or will likely be banned try to defend their behaviors by claiming that THEY don't think it's wrong or offensive, or that there's a filter in place, or what have you.

The point is simple:  Your opinion doesn't matter.  Know whose does?  ArenaNet's.  If you read all the ANet reps' posts in that Reddit thread, you'll very clearly see that they don't consider the profanity filter an excuse to curse.  They've even stated as much in that thread.  And all those people who think they got banned for their name, or that they did nothing wrong?  Yeah...almost all of them have been extremely offensive in chat, and that's why they got banned.

And as for warnings?  The ANet rep said it best:  The rules are your warning.  The 72-hour ban is your warning.

Don't like it?  Don't play.  Or keep behaving just the way you are, and I'm positive ANet will make sure you don't play.

Go ANet!  It's about time there was zero tolerance for this sort of behavior!

I just wanted to give a big Thank you to Anet for bringing the ban hammer out fast and hard...so sick of the stupid, worthless and down right offensive names that I usually see in MMOs...I so hope they keep it up and just clean out all this crap and way to go to the community also for taking a pro-active stand against the trolls

This has been generating a lot of repercussion.

Its been generating :(  at the least, the people that was banned made a name that was improper, and a lesson was learned in all this mess.

That lesson is act respectful when making names, when talking in chat, when whispering in chat, in a group with other people, and so on.

All those things is suppose to be happening, but in this day in age is has been sugar coated by other mmos, and the garbage going on this decade in mmos has filled its cup.

Now I feel safe and happy to know that ArenaNet don't take excuses and actually pulls punches on people that think they need some entitlement to be rude to others, or obnoxious to others.

This is a glorious time for me to witness, and I am glad to see this surface in this game.
