#2198840 Neverwinter

Posted Shadok on 06 May 2013 - 07:38 AM

I hit level 60 earlier today and started running epic dungeons. I have to say, as I've leveled the gameplay has only gotten more interesting. Tanking dungeons is great, it's not just "stand in place, go through your rotation, pull x mob here, aggro adds, etc etc" or anything like that. Some fights I need to focus on add control, some only on the boss, some on both, some attacks need to be avoided, some blocked, some I need to just eat to save my guard, some mobs need to be turned and held in place, some I need to just continue to kite without stopping, and the list goes on. Obviously none of this is revolutionary, but all of it coupled with the interactive combat is awesome (and not something I would expect from a F2P game).

You don't get that many abilities on your bar at once, but some can be combined to be really useful. For example, I have a daily that makes my attacks steal health for a few seconds, then an AoE taunt that does damage. If I'm low, the 2 pretty much spike me to full health instantly (which can't really be done any other way since I don't have any real AoE aside from my taunt). Another example would be using my cone ability that knocks mobs back to bunch them up, then using my lunge that marks all of the adjacent targets to whoever my lunge hits (marking targets basically gives you threat and increases threat generation). The lunge has no CD so half the time I'll be flying from the boss to adds that peel off, then back to the boss, then to more adds, and back to the boss, all very quickly throughout the fight.

All in all I'm very pleased with this game and the massive amount of potential it has. Before GW2 had released I thought I was sick of the holy trinity (despite the fact that I had always been a tank, one of the roles that generally didn't have a hard time grouping), but now it's beginning to look like the lack of interactivity with the combat was what made tanking, or healing, or DPS'ing hurtful to MMOs. The way that the attack animations are designed, the block animation, the sound effects, and many other factors make the majority of the combat feel like an epic battle regardless of what's going on. However, the fact that the fights are actually for the most part interesting and somewhat difficult is really what seals the deal.

And warrior is the easiest class to play.. :P just take a gs run in and 100b, learn to dodge properly and use other skills = profit.

But it might not be funniest profession to play.

Go with Axe/Mace or Axe/Axe and heal on crit food.  GS is so 2012.

Dhuumseal is the closest thing to what you are looking for.

#2161618 PUGs are Bad, Guildies are Great

Posted Airwolf on 10 February 2013 - 02:47 AM

what you need (part guild group, full guild group or all pugs) is either experience or a will to learn. And true experience can only be found with a will to learn. Not wanting to learn from others is why that person and none other will make the entire group fail.

Even a elitist that gets into a group of four guildies needs to have the will to learn the other members play style and either adapt or be patient.

Every party that i have been in that has failed, failed for these reasons.

#2159741 Sell laurels in the gem store

Posted MithranArkanere on 07 February 2013 - 02:02 AM

They have to leave something for dedication.

Laurels should be that one thing you can only get with dedication.

I don't want to see anyone getting the cat in a bowler hat by paying.
It's the best item in the entire game, and it should be available only to those who play the game, not to those who can pay for it.

#2128144 When will GW2 get real PvP?

I'm actually pretty sure that no matter what comes next, the OP will not be happy. I suggest finding another game that has exactly what you want.

#2156766 How do you beat Thieves?

Yes, they can.
have you played a thief? Their number 5 skill gets STRONGER while in stealth. They can hit the skill in stealth, which with the games crappy way it handles stealth rendering, means they can hit you 1-2 times before it full shows their model.

Hmm, must have missed that skill. I was quite sure that the thief left stealth when he attacked (unless it was a skill that gave him stealth when using it of course).

So, you mean you need to SEE a enemy before you react?
When I start to get damaged I do tend to dodge rather fast, even if I can't see the enemy attacking.

You can narrow it down a single class: Guardian. You'll be appreciated anywhere you go.

#2151551 Social online. Quiet in real life.

Posted leongrado on 26 January 2013 - 08:40 PM

I've recently noticed that the drastic difference between how much I talk online and how much I talk in real life. I'm aware that I probably spend too much time on the computer every day but I've never really been an antisocial person....at least online. In real life social situations, I either have nothing to say, or I just simply don't find the conversation interesting and I'm trying to understand why.

Anyone else share these experiences? I can't tell if I'm socially anxious or just completely uninterested in the topics other people are talking about.

#2153882 Help me choose a main

Posted Elysen on 29 January 2013 - 11:39 PM

You will find yourself doing the same thing over and over and over .... and over .... and over ...

.... and over and over as a warrior or ranger. Ranger is practically auto attack dodge, Warrior is spam your skills and don't worry about "preserving" their cooldowns. If you worry this will bore you, these are not for you.

Guardian is a simple class and very effective even at lower skill levels. They require slight more care than a Warrior as it's ill-advised to keep all skills in cooldown as this profession.

Engineer & Elementalist are two professions with a very high skill curve. It will take a LOT of practice to play these well. If you can't afford to sink time into it, DO NOT PLAY THESE. When I find a bad Engineer or Elementalist in my groups it feels like we're 4 manning it.

#2143526 Yo, how are thieves not crazy OP?

Posted Coooturtle on 16 January 2013 - 07:03 AM

TBH, in WvW, a roaming thief is very OP. But in group and team fights, they are essentially useless. The fact that they have very little armor means that they will die very fast in an AoE. But meet in a 1v1, and thieves will pretty much always win.

#2133775 Rush's Guide to Smoother Dungeons!

What's sad is that I've had my most fastest and smoothest dungeon runs with 2 guardians and 3 warriors...  It was just complete demolition.  Makes me sad face :(

my fastest were with 5 guardians, but that's only because my guild was messing around, if we went on our other characters we would have done them just as fast or faster.

Honestly dungeons are so easy mode that there isn't a need for any sort of team composition, you can throw in 5 people of any class who know what they're doing and complete any of them easily. Where team composition truly matters atm is fractals, in higher levels, if you don't build your team correctly you'll fall hard. You won't get away with running all warriors/guardians easily, there are some classes that are indispensable.
