Is this the reason why everyone starts ranting about WoW and LoL whenever I ask them to show their gear so I can confirm they're actually running the role they claim to be running?  Because they are afraid of math?

GW2 involves much more room for min-maxing which is probably why it feels more "mathy".  But a wide range of mathematical outcomes is much easier to balance than a wide range of playstyles (gw1's skill system).

I mean it's okay to call it a nerf. It could be a reasonable nerf. So yes you're completely right about asking people to wait and see before panicking. But it is indeed a nerf by definition because they are, in their own words, reducing it's effectiveness. It's annoying to see you arguing semantics all the freaking time trying to defend everything ANET does.

Yes some people are unreasonably negative but you are on the other side of the spectrum.

Admitting mistakes is of no value if your playerbase is this outraged. He talks and talks about how bad they handled this basically saying that it was introduced too early yet this begs the question: Why was it rushed if they had completely different plans? It absolutely failed to satisfy any kind of audience and only ended up angering both. All this new gear did was giving ArenaNet a huge amount of bad reputation. That being said don't expect any kind of these so called fixes within at least 2 months. It'd be a miracle if they could deliver earlier than that considering how slow they work on fixing issues instead they rather introduce rushed and half-baked new content which brings only more issues to an already broken and bug infested game. Had ascended gear been included at release, which they indicated it should have been, none of this discussion would be happening.

What does baffle me is all these people that are glad they added gear treadmills and wondered why they weren't in the game in the first place.

First off, apparently you did zero research before you bought this product and whoever did that should probably be more prudent with their money. You might have problems in the future if you don't.

Second, I KNEW exactly what I was buying and was perfectly happy with the product until Arena Net decided to add a feature that they had stated multiple times that they were very against, even looked down on and considered it insulting to game players as a whole.

This also brings me to another thing that baffles me. A lot of people are saying "this is an MMO, it NEEDS gear treadmill..."

My question, which was also Anets question until November 15th is Why? Why does every MMO need something like that? I think the problem with GW2 after looking at it clinically and trying to be unbiased is that basically you had no character progression. Note I did not say "gear progression" which in reality is numbers going up everywhere and not progression at all, hence why it is called a treadmill.

People had run out of things to do because the way Anet set things up discouraged playing around with builds. Skills are rather static and many are just the same skill but with a different name and icon for each profession. Weapon skills are by design totally static. The only way to change attack skills is weapon swap and some profs didn't even have that. Also, each profession had utility skills that were clearly superior  so each effective build used the same skills. This led to the feeling that your character after you got the desired elite and hit 80 had no progression, because the progression you were supposed to do was in your own personal skill. Apparently, Anet didn't take into account how rampant ADD is.

Anet really has no way to expand your actual character progression beyond adding more skills and weapons. Which is something they will avoid since GW1 drove them nuts with thousands of skills and they couldn't balance the game. I would like to note that it has come to light that only 2 people at Anet work on balance so their reasoning at this point is moot as they are not really balancing the classes anyways.

My meandering post has a point. Anet wanted to retain players and to do so they chose the easiest, laziest method. Gear treadmill. It doesn't take any effort besides making numbers go up to design and it keeps hamsters on their wheel. Anyone with a brain would not welcome it, especially  those that knew before they bought the game what Anet supposedly stood for. If you don't understand why a lot of people are pissed and have left then you probably didn't.

Either way the game goes on. Some of us just have to wait longer for the game we waited 7 years for.

My explanation: yes, an account should only be able to to experience it once.  But, it should repeat so everybody at least can have a shot at it, no matter where they live.

They talk to the community like we are dumb. What he spoke of prior were artificial barriers. What is in the game now is a real barrier. He knows this, yet still keeps typing out rhetoric.

Why I don't want ascended/legendary items with better stats than exotic:

• It created gear differences and subsequent picky behaviour. "Don't have ascended gear? You're not welcome in my team!" The worst thing is that it may be understandable, too, because who wants wipes and repair costs? In GW infusion was a quick Iron Mines run, now it's a long grind.
  
  
• Fine transmutation stones. To get better - and for some content neccessary - gear I need to get new items, the looks of which I may greatly dislike. So that means additional gold grind or using RL Cash shop to get gems - that are payed for anyway. In a way, better gear also is a stealth update of the gem store. Instead of "cosmetic only" it's now reversed to "grind for ugly gear just for stats" and transmute it to the good look that you already have.
  
  
• I bought the game on the premise that "skill, not gear" would be the main factor. Now this simply isn't true anymore. Without resist gear I'm simply a lot more squishy than people with "infused" gear.  Even though I may be a better, more skillful player. It's just like WoW.
  
  
• Where storyline mode unlocks content account-wide, I don't get account-wide gear for completing FOTW instances. Meaning that every single character must go through the same gear grind.

I think that these things alone are already enough arguments to get rid of the whole tier stuff.

I was already leaning away from the game. This change has really turned me off. I enjoyed the plateau and focus on character development in GW1. I had my fill of gear progression from my Diablo 2 days and decided not to go back. I wasted far too much time trying to get items instead of actually playing.  GW2 felt off since launch; there is too little strategy and too much damage focus. Now with another tier of gear needed to be gained before reaching the plateau, I think may take a hiatus.

I don't mind gear progression if it is easy to obtain each tier. I enjoy getting new gear in the old sandbox RPGs. But in those games you didn't have to random element or the carrot-on-the-stick method. You simply opened a treasure chest and the armor piece was always there for you.  The challenge came from finding and reaching that chest.

GW1's method of handling gear was better. Tiers should only be in the skins, not the stats. The title-grinding GW1 had was mostly optional except for a few poor ideas like Lightbringer.

I know this is not anets fault but I played the event for 2 hours and couldn't finish the last 30 minutes because I had to go to bed.
In my opinion I still deserve a reward, too bad I lost those awesome things. >
