In Topic: If invasions had no (or less) loot would you still do it?

27 August 2013 - 08:16 PM

I would do them for the achievements, but that's it.  They're neat the first few times, but they quickly grow tiring as you do the same handful of events for 45 minutes at a time across random maps.  Even with the loot they're enough of a pain to run that I won't bother unless I need a map for the Invasion Canceler achievement.

The one odd benefit of less loot for invasions?  Maybe players would actually coordinate some instead of massive zergs farming champs that prevent maps from completing.  Feels awful to watch a map fail horribly just because half the players on the map insisted on staying at a single event for ages just because it caused lots of loot-bearing champs to spawn.

Shoot, I just bought a set of Berzerker's Armor and transmuted it over my Explorer's set yesterday, since it seemed like the MF update could be a long while out and selecting stats was never guaranteed.  That's a nice chunk of gold I could've saved.  Will still be nice to update the handful of MF gear I have left for free, I suppose.

As for SAB returning, I'm very excited.  Big fan of jumping puzzles here, so having the best one back and better than ever is a treat.

Personally looking forward to this potential story/lore coming with the anniversary.  Would take something special to affect the whole world.  Maybe the Tengu finally opening their doors and truly entering Tyrian society?  New Elder Dragon, to be fought long-term across the living story?  Maybe Glint's baby theory turns out to be real and becomes a focal point?  I'm excited to see what they have in store for us beyond quality of life improvements and random freebies.

In Topic: "It's unlikely Guild Wars 2 will ever get an expansion pack" by E...

Hopefully they really do have an expansion in the works and simply don't want to talk about it yet, because the thought that we will never see an expansion seems insane.  The now bi-weekly content is nice, but a lot of it is temporary and permanent additions are often minor.  Expansions are what bring the big stuff, like new regions, new races, new classes, and new major storylines.  Am I really supposed to expect Living World updates will start bringing that caliber of content after half a year of temporary missions and quality-of-life improvements?  The only thing that comes close is the Southsun Cove area, and even that has yet to be brought up to the standard of launch areas with map completion counters and vistas.  Give us something to be excited for long-term!

Back when the servers first went online last August, the first thing I did was create five characters so I could get the names I wanted for each of the five current races.  The second thing I did was buy three character slots and create three more characters so I could reserve names for characters of future races.  I mean, we had the Tengu and the Dominion of Winds waiting to be opened to us, we had two other continents from GW1 hidden away, and we had several more Elder Dragons in need of slaying.  Surely expansions were inevitable, and with them enough new races, new personal storylines, and/or new professions to justify at minimum making characters of the three professions I didn't play at launch.  Looking back I was jumping the gun for what were only potential alts, but hearing now that expansions may not happen at all?  I sure didn't see that coming, and it's more than little discouraging.

In Topic: Do you still play GW2, and why?

Yes, as I'm working on getting my four alts through their personal stories and hope to one day earn a legendary for my main (bit of a longshot, but you never know).  Comes with the side benefit of having a level 80 Mesmer and Guardian by the time I'm done, so I could potentially look to harder content without worry of being excluded due to class selection.

Also, thanks to the monthly content it's been pretty fun checking in regularly simply to try out what's new, no matter how small.  I've had some periods of inactivity as other games/real life have popped up, but I've yet to have a month pass where I haven't played at least a bit of GW2 thanks to regular updates.
