how about actually giving him feedback on what he asked and not unwanted advice about what to do with his rl?

in regards to the OP:

sounds like thief is your best bet for versality as you found him fun, if not try with a warrior, about using a shortbow as a thief in dungeons, that is only if you think you cannot do well or be aware of what you are figthing as a thief:

im a guardina lvl 80, main weapon is a GS, secondary swap is scepter/shield, i began doing dungeons using scepter/shield exclusively, because i wasnt confident enough ot keep up toe to toe, and a fter a few dungeon runs, i mix it up, start with GS, and when i get low on hp and used my defensive utilities, then i hang back with scepter and shield to recover to full and then i go back into the fray.

in the end, its up to you to decide what youw ant to play, if you are having fun with thief, test him out in a dungeon, see if you are really forced to stick to shortbow (i have a friend who ran thief with us, she mixed ranged and melee depending on the situation), and if not , explore the other classes you are missing.

That isn’t using his logic against him; that is saying that idiots should get special protection and be rewarded for being idiots. Just because someone thinks the mail system is a trading tool does not make it so, and just because they treat it as one does not mean it should be one. It means they are noobs who don’t know what they are doing and refuse to learn how to play. You shouldn’t be arguing to protect their stupidly you should be trying to educate them.

The mail is not a trading tool. Period. It doesn’t matter how many people think it is, or how often it gets used as such. It simply isn’t, nor will it ever be, and Arena Net has zero responsibility to enforce illegitimate trades made through the mail system. And to be frank, I know I am being a bit harsh, anyone stupid enough to repeatedly use the mail system as a trading tool in spite of getting scammed deserves to get scammed over, and over, and over, and over again until they learn their lesson. These people are deliberately trying to cheat the system by circumventing the trading post and avoiding a necessary tax, and in real life if someone gets caught for tax evasion they go to prison, so in a game world I think the loss of a little digital gold or items is fine.

A world where cheaters actually get punished for cheating is a great thing.
thank you, i was not understand what he meant with "using my logic against me" since it isnt using really.

the mail system is a mail system, not a trading system, its used to send things from one player to another, that one can send from one to another doesnt mean it is a trading system, because there are no systems to confirm an exchange.
alternatively, you do not have a copy mail in your own char to "prove" that you sent an email, only player that gets to keep the email is the character that receives the item (or gold), but not both.
also, since ANet hasnt replied nor banned the scammer, its also an indication that using the mail system as a trading tool is not sanctioned by anet.

like the saying goes, fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. let this be a lesson and stop using it before getting scammed (not "you" ardeni, just in general usage) or risk using it just to get some "extra profit"

Perhaps it isn't 100% safe for everybody, but if you pay attention, it is. I've never been scammed in this way myself, even though I've seen people trying to do it. The key is to pay attention. Looking at the items in the trade vindow for 2-10s won't hurt anybody. Also, you can't deny that it is much safer than sending an item/gold to somebody and then expect him/her to send something in return. That kind of trading is a heavenly opportunity for the scammers.
but thats the problem

YOU have not been scammed, but many OTHERS have been, anet deemed that those that have been scammed have been many enough to consider it necessary to not have a direct player to player trade so as to protect the majority of the players, and like so many have said, the reason you can see this as "heavenly opportunity for the scammers"; is because you are seeing mailing system as a TRADING tool, when it isnt a trading tool, its a system to send messages and items to others, to SEND, to others, not to trade, for trading there is the TP, if you take the risk of using the email system as a trading tool, when its not meant to be used as trading tool (there is no confirmation of "you really want to send this to xyz player?" there is no Cash on delivery option, just send and voila), if you want to take this risk, its your risk to take, ANet doesnt promote using the mailing system as a trading system.

@Daesu:
player escrow is not the safest way either, i dont know if you played GW1, but back during its economy peak time, GWguru(1) had this implemented, there where several oustanding mods from their community who worked as middle men in trades that had a larger than 100k trades (i think before ectos turned to be the new  extra currency), and for the most part it was successful because the middle men where players and mods heavily trusted by the community, BUT, yes there is always a butt, people STILL got scammed, because there where players who tried and made characters that had a name very close to that of one of the trusted people, and thus they'd send all their money to these people, and when they got scammed they would then go onto the forums and rage towards the real middle men until proof that they did not send it to the right one would appear.

i THINK, that eventually this service was discontinued due to this, but i would need a trader from guru1 to share if it stopped or not or why
